Student’s Name: Professor’s Name: Class Name: Date Assignment is due: Case Study: CoalBlack Introduction Quality leadership in an organization is the surest way to attaining the best results from a company. If there is no clear manner in which power is distributed in the company, the operations in the company are bound to fail because they will not be able to be lead in style that will help achievement of the set goals. Despite the fact that CoalBlack is the greatest employer within the district it is situated, it has not fully maximized on its relationship with the immediate community. The company has no mission set that should be of help to the neighborhood. Its quest to have more coal constantly makes it to have wrangles with the community members who perceive it not as a potential employer but a risk to their environment. Risk management The company has poor risk management which entails that the company should be in constant trial of increasing opportunities rather than causing havoc to the existence of a good business. In business, risks come from uncertainties in the manner finances are conducted also the manner natural causes of disasters are managed (Charan, Drotter and Noel 36). In the company, there are no serious measures taken to manage risks that happen within the environment the company is set. The company has been in conflicts with the community for contaminating the water supply which is a risk to the community. If such information spreads to the whole of the town, the company can lose customers. The company is said to have the biggest reserves of raw materials but on the contrary it has spoilt the environment so as to access such materials by even destroying the habitat of a rare species (Charan, Drotter and Noel 27). CoalBlack needs to identify the risks and come up with strategies to counter the risks so as to maximize the opportunities. The fact that the company has been an environment risk is not positive and should be checked so as not to tarnish the name of the company. Leadership styles The kind of leadership in CoalBlack Company is autocratic leadership. The servants have no room to make suggestions because the previous Chief Executive Officer never respected their expressions. He ignored them and all he wanted was to have the job done in the manner he wanted. The manner in which workers behave in the community could be caused by the resentment they get after being ignored by the leaders (Northouse 90). They feel to sabotage because at the place of work they do not have a channel to air their concerns. The leader is in constant wrangles with the community members because he feels that his words are final and no one should question them. He needs to listen to the expression of the workers and give the community priority because the company work force comes from the same community he ignores (Northouse 91). There is need to delegate some of the duties to the junior staff so as to utilize the full house in an organization. Employer motivation The company has very poor employer motivation strategies because the occupation health safety of the employee is not prioritized. Many workers are in problems because they do not have proper health facilities to take care of the bruised bodies. The company needs to take concern of its workers because they sacrifice a lot I the mission of helping the company to achieve its goals. The workers are not motivated either extrinsically or intrinsically because they acre made to feel just as servants for they do not have the mandate to experts their feelings or opinions to the management for the running of the company. Social and environmental The company do not have the best social relations because the employees work under fear and iron-fist rule. They do not feel as stakeholders of the company they work in because they have no say in the running of the company. The working environment is stuffy thus providing no motivation to be happy about work (Northouse 21). The workers have no room to be creative but just follow instructions as the employer dictated to them. The social life of the community and the company is pathetic because the company head is in constant wrangles with the community hence destroying the social relationship of the two parties. The environment has been destroyed by the workers and it directly affects the society because their water supply is destroyed while their animal habitats are cut down like the dwelling place for the Spotted Hopping Bandicoot. The company do not have a respect for the culture of the community because the have set the company on the graves of the Aboriginal communities who were the original land owners in Australia. Organizational ethics and culture CoalBlack passes on a culture of following instruction where the employees are not involved in decision making but follows the rules blindly because the do not have forums to question the manner leadership is done. The company has no forums whereby the junior employees can be coached on how to conduct themselves in the future (Charan, Drotter and Noel 41). The CEO is the tough minded person who want s to see work being done all the times thus denying workers a social life. The ethics of the company are wanting because they have already interfered with an ecosystem in their search for raw materials. Their mines are being excavated in places where the Aboriginal graves are thus reducing the level of their ethics and culture ((Northouse 83). Management of conflict Management of the company is bearing fruits because it runs well in the business measures. The company has conflicts which are both internal and external. The company CEO uses intimidation to manage the conflicts within the company thus not solving them at all. As the new CEO, I will use dialogue to solve emerging conflicts so that I would not suppress anger of the workers hence cause dysfunction in the manner activities are done in the company (Charan, Drotter and Noel 63). Resistance to change Community leaders within the region the company is situated resist change that occurs in their community. They end up being enemies to the company that has been the employer of the societal members. Instead of solving the disagreements that occur amicably, they take legal actions that will end spoiling the ties between the company and the community. As the new CEO will set a mission that will incorporate the community hence making them stake holders of the company. Many projects will be set to help the company that are setting schools, hospitals among others until the community start perceiving the company in a different perspective (Charan, Drotter and Noel 64). Exercise of power and politics and implication for leadership style The manner in which power is used can only affect the growth of the company negatively. Politics should be used positively so as to change the company for the better (Northouse 7). Colluding with politicians in running businesses only puts the business at a risk because politicians mismanage the leadership circles of the company by appointing candidates of their interests but not able minded professionals thus jeopardizing the success of the company at the expense of nepotism. Executive training is the process whereby identified individuals are imparted with knowledge that will boost their leadership talents to the levels of professionalism. The individuals are being prepared for succeeding the existing leadership because there must be a replacement of individuals with the knowledge that helps the employees and management to work harmoniously so as to use set strategies into achieving the goals in the company (Charan, Drotter and Noel 64).
