Industrial Production Manager Work-Life Is a high school degree enough nowadays? Nowadays, people that have never received a college degree are unsuccessful in the viewpoint of most people. This fact has consequently led many to opt for pursuing a degree selecting from the available options. Education no doubt has undergone changes with time with respect to options and development. In other words, there are many courses available in thousands of fields for education hopefuls. One of the fields is engineering which is subdivided into several branches. I endeavor to venture into industrial and systems engineering. As a student studying industrial and system engineering, I did ask many questions about this major before starting out to study it. The discussion proceeding below will answer some of these questions for future students in this major. Industrial and systems engineering has a concern in coming up with solutions to a variety of problems in a varied settings and fields. I have to mention that my career interest is to be an industrial production manager. According to United States Department of Labor, industrial production managers direct the daily operations of assembling and related plants, and they face several issues such as dissect production information, write production reports, screen a plants laborers to guarantee they meet execution and wellbeing necessities and fix production issues (Bharadwaj 24). Therefore, this field is only serving the work community. In addition, this job requires at least a bachelor degree and several years of experience, and eight hours of work. Industrial production management professionals use three primary communication methods: reports, letters, and E-mails, and through the usage of pathos and logos, they deliver their ideas.
Writing communication is an extremely important feature in the industrial production management field because working in this field depends on communicating with several departments and the many employees and employers. Reports are the first method to communicate with employees in the working field. Before an employer undertakes a certain project, he receives a report from the industrial production manager on the best approach to perfection. After that, when the job is done, the employer will communicate back with a reply via a report to the industrial production manager. It details what happened during the project with exact details and the kind of materials that were used. In addition, reports are used after the industrial production manager finishes a scheme, he makes a report of the materials needed to finish the project, and send it to the procurement section so they can provide them the required materials. However, reports in this field are usually written in a technical reporting approach that contains professional documentation in a formal presentation (Bharadwaj 55). Reports are usually long because it must contain specific details, coordinates, and graphs.
Letters are used in several situations in the industrial production management field such as promotion requests, commitments, retirement requests, and vacation requests. Promotion requests and retirement requests are written as a letter because it must be sent in the paper to the department’s manager so that both parties can sign the requests. Secondly, industrial production management field’s employers use letters when they sign commitments, and they use the letters because commitments must be signed and documented on paper. Lastly, vacation requests are written as a letter because it must go through the supervisor and the department’s manager to sanction. The letters in this field are written in an academic way, and as what explained in the last examples, letters are usually short and simple with no specific details (Harris 99).
E-mails are used in industrial production management when they communicate by writing because it is a faster and simpler way. They use it when they want to send simple details such as news or basic orders (Lawley 102). For example, e-mails use to warn the field’s employers of storms or to announce a celebration. The language that is used in e-mails is usually informal, and the writing length depends on the topic. In other words, e-mails come sometimes be long or sometimes short.
Communication via writing, as used in industrial production management field, is different from the other fields, and the contents that they write is also different. One of the short texts written by professionals in the field is titled ‘How to prosper as a production manager.’ This piece was brought to light by Rajesh K. Tyagi and Mohanbir S. Sawhne. They are experts on the subject, and this work was compiled following a research conducted. It was done in June of the year 2010. In this piece of work, the writers understand the fact that the audience is a high profile end as it is largely made up of people who are already managers or those who are intending to become managers in the future (Rajesh and Mohanbir 1). I agree with thought brought out by authors when they assess engineering as a field that demands result for success. To that effect, the authors of the book make proper use of various elements of appeal. However, their writing did not detail the academic description of the content requirements of engineering writings as if I perceived they would.
One of the key elements of appeal according to Rajesh K. Tyagi and Mohanbir S. Sawhne is the use of pathos in the text. This is the appeal to emotions. The work has been designed in a fashion that it expressively appeals to emotions of the audience who are managers (Rajesh and Mohanbir 1). This is created in a fashion that makes it possible for the managers to get the urge to move with speed and fix the challenges that are looming large in the various companies that they are leaders in or wish to be leaders. The work is keen on elaborating and shifts the perception of managers regarding the role they play in the society.
Another one of the short texts written by professionals in the field is titled ‘Be a Great Product Leader.’ An expert, Adam Nash, did this work on the 16th day of December 2011. It has been designed in a fashion that serves to influence current leaders and those who are eyeing for leadership positions (Adam 1). The piece of work gives an elaborate framework, which the target audience needs to adhere to in order to ensure that they get to make some of the greatest production leaders in the society.
The writing uses the principle of logos by appealing to the logic of the audience such that when they read the work they see the logic behind it and is the main reason it is detailed. They get the reasoning behind the essence of adhering to the stipulated guidelines in order that they get to be the best production leaders. One needs to see some sense in what they are being told regarding what kind of stipulations to follow so that they get the motivation to actually accept the stipulated channel and follow it gracefully. This concept is probably not very clear considering that engineers required quite the accuracy in their service (Adam 11). I disagree with the insinuation that leadership is passed on which in my regard should be cultivated.
I conclude with a claim that it is apparent that leadership is a major component in the production realm, and that calls for the best industrial production managers to be in place to steer the production process as a whole. Managers are in charge of the machinery, the human resources and the raw materials in an industry. They take care of the process of coordinating these elements such that the result is a comprehensive product that serves to fulfill the needs of all the stakeholders. To that effect, it follows that industrial production managers should be well versed with the intricate channels of the process. They need to at all times be on high alert to guide against any mishap that may befall the industry. There are well stipulated guidelines that serve to produce the best production managers out of ordinary managers. These guidelines have been researched and proven to work making them the information that all production managers should reach out for. On the other hand, I had worked in a family company as a manager of lumpers before I came to the USA, and this experience gave me some leaders’ skills such as how I should treat the workers, how I can encourage them, and how I can find the best solution when I face problems. Skills gain consideration being key to being professional in the industrial production management field as knowledge, make having both of them your goal.
