Writing commentaries based on three different questionnaires al Affiliation: Overview Understanding of organizational behaviorrole in the corporation helps managers to setup successful strategies for their goals. As a manager whose job is to ensure achieving corporate goals, one must be aware of employer-employee. It is also important to know how employees react based on their cultural differences and social norms. These differences help to generate insights and thoughts as well. The business world is changing every day, and these changes come with concepts that are meant to correct old and wrong one. They also come with new concepts to inspire people become creative and give the power of self-reflection to advancing business environment. This is the main goal for majority of Multinational Corporation. According to them, maintaining strong relationship in management levels and that of employees satisfy shareholders and also benefit employees in return. Throughout the organization behavior course with professor Seltzer, I have learned the importance of working with others and the subject people should not step back in defending their insight. This course has also improved my knowledge in areas where conflict has caused long term management damages and unnecessary purposes. I became aware of factors that influence people’s reaction in certain situations, and the appropriate way to respond to them. Motivation is an important concept whether in workplace or normal life. Since we concentrate on workplace, we must know how to motivate employees who dedicate most their time participating to build corporate success. A recognition what their reward is important because the money is not the ultimate solution. The exercises we had in classroom such as filling out personality questionnaires have given me clear input on my unique personality. I have also solidified the view that my lifelong dream of becoming a successful financial manager in banking field is fit for me. What we were doing is a discussion of the NEO questionnaire in class with a partner sitting right next to us. We were to give a sheet to predict what we expected our personality to be in line with the big five categories of personality model. These included; emotional Stability, Extraversion, Open experiences, Compassion, and Conscientiousness. Out of these categories, we had to acknowledge our belief or perception about oneself and the rating that we gave to ourselves. After completing the 60 question NEO-FFI assessment we would go back and look at how we faired to our predictions. The result of NEO questionnaire surprised me in ways that I did not expect. I guessed the result of this questionnaire would be average based on Emotional Stability, Open to Experiences and Conscientiousness and got a positive result as per my expectation. This would be high rank of Extraversion because I looked at myself as an outgoing person who is not afraid of being a stranger among others. This is due to my ability of having quick relations. Unfortunately, I got a moderate rank and also guessed that were to score moderate rank on conscientiousness category. I was disappointed for getting low rank which represents a hardheaded and skeptical personality. I do not feel this is an accurate measurement because a manager at high level of power and authority must neutralize his feelings and emotional to make right and efficient decisions. Actually, a manger should not be an easily manipulated fellow. As a financial manager, being able to interact with strangers and recognizing their needs and trying to be close to their concern is a necessary skill. Assessment NEO questionnaire First category was the emotional stability. I was accurate with my guess and scored 20, which is in the average range of ranking. I think of myself as person who can work under stress besides dealing with daily life pressure. I really enjoy working in a place where duties are challenging as this allows me to acquire skills of managing the stress or the pressure from work. Personally, I believe that challenging duties and unpredictable work environment strengthen the employee ability to manage feelings and have control over serious decisions. These two factors are similar to financial business environment in which I’m interested. Second category was the extraversion and I thought of getting the highest score among others did not achieve this desire. I got 28“moderate” which is a moderate raking according to the general standards of ranking. I do not know whether the questionnaire is not accurate and these calls for hard work to improve my social skills. I usually show up to any events unless I’m not invited. I like gathering with people who I know and like. Meeting people for first time, discussing general news and sharing ideas in particular topic are my best interests in creating such relations. Listening to the other people’s ideas is best approach of solving complex issues. The third category was openness to experiences. I got 26 point, which is in the middle between total open and closed minded. I consider myself as conservative and open person who cares about other people’s ideas and taking them seriously. Some my of ideas may seem to be a waste time and not dragging my interest to get involved in the conversation, like philosophy, sciences, history, poetry and others. Basically, I prefer to hear from those who are specialized in running business, and having a talk about relevant factors that influence economy domestically or globally. I believe being moderate on this attitude is what made me innovating and achieving in the past, and continuity in my future. The fourth category was a measurement of compassion and I was surprised for being in the low rank of 25 point. This ranked me as person who does not have control over his anger. It also expresses the feelings of a person whose trust lies with nobody. Actually, this is not the way I view myself. According to what I have learnt, in the business world there is no such thing like trust, but people can earn trust through hard work. However, nobody can do everything alone, so work duties have to be equally distributed among employees, and counting on them to get the jobs done. After spending time around employees or acquaintance, a manager should be able to identify a person with whom he or she can give trust. Eventually, last category was about conscientious and the result showed an average level of 37 points. In my daily life, my friends and family constantly tell that I’m organized and determined. I used to hear the same comments from other employees or bosses at workplace. They commented on the way I arranged my deck, leave desktop neat and clean, and good dressing code. Since high school, I have always been aware of my future plans. It was clear to me that starting my own business was a dream, so when I got into college, I decided to be a business student. During my days in college, I kept practicing what I have learnt and this boosted my chances of getting jobs from a well-known bank. I worked for one year with cooperating people and left after realizing that learning English and studying at the U.S would allow me bump into many opportunities in the business world. I’m always determined and know what I am doing and plan for next move. FIRO questionnaire (Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation) This assessment is based on professor Shultz suggestions that the primary dimensions of interpersonal relationships are Inclusion, Control, and Affection. By answering 54 questions, you will have vision in three dimensions, these three dimensions are divided into two scales, either what he/she wants others to behave, or how he/she expresses his/her behavior towards others. The table blow shows what I had predicated to be, before answering the questionnaire. Inclusion Control Affection Expressed Behavior Average 50% Very Low 10% Average 50% Wanted Behavior High 90% Low 30% Low 30% Here is the outcome after I completed answering the 54 questions and I honestly did not expect this result. Inclusion Control Affection Expressed Behavior Average high 70% Average 50% Low 30% Wanted Behavior High 90% Average 50% Low 30% Generally, the differences between the way I look at myself and my actual behavior draw circles around the area where I should, as financial manager, I need to improve some necessary skills like being able to know how to cooperate with managers at other divisions. recognizing obstacles at work place and attempting to work with employees to overcome them is among my key priorities. This will not only make me utilize my employees, but it will give me good rapport with them. These skills are very essential for working with others and closing deals. I will work on improving myself. Emotional Intelligence EI is a component of five elements of emotional awareness, regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Being knowledgeable in EI provides me with the awareness to notice subtle signs in a person in front of me. Emotional response is what allows my acting in best possible way. These skills are important in attracting potential client and handling their equity as well as dealing with employees. For instance, figuring out how to motivate employees and maintaining motivation. At high level of management, executive’s with high emotional intelligence are mostly successful and respected because their interactions leave a positive expression on others. Career leader assessment It is an online questionnaire that measures personal interests, motivators, and skills with providing explanation for each element and putting them in order, from highest to lowest score. After that it shows you a certain jobs that meet your interests, satisfied you motivations, and appropriate to your personal skills. It seems to me that this questionnaire is much accurate and I was surprised by how the questionnaire matched my expectations toward future career. (Screenshot of high score in job matching). Commercial banks and real estate finance were reported with the highest ranking and following production management, securities trading, accounting, private equity investment, sales management, finance in corporate settings, and investment banking. Working in financial field has always been my dream, and it is the first thing that comes to my mind when friends or people talk about the work they prefer. Real estate finance has grown rapidly in the world wild as well as its active and profitable market in Saudi Arabia. In this job, my personality might have tended answering questions from the profitability view rather than considering the pleasure of doing it. I predicated that working in investment bank would appear on the top list of potential workplace. I think that the current knowledge in the market is not enough to determine if an investment with risk is attractive for me or not. Skills According to Career Leaders, four major skills drove the result to be as aforementioned. First, interpersonal effectiveness, which refers to managing team work, having limited control over others and not losing composure easily, and quick in responding to sudden situation or in adapting with people from different culture or background. Second, power and influence is shown the connection for me being eligible to work at commercial banks, it is sociability, oral communication, projects self-confidence even in uncertain and difficult situations. Third, analysis and strategic decision making rely on three significant elements those matched my potential career. Which they are, Judging ideas and people on merit alone, without bias or favoritism, ability to grasp the big picture and think long-term, recognizing new opportunities and acts to take advantage of them. And finally, bringing management structure becomes one of the skills that are important to ensure corporation strategies have been implemented as planned. Making sure that corporation decisions are in the best interest, even though they cause individual people distress. Persisting on handling situation in appropriately and effectively way whatever it takes to overcome problems and reach required goals. Motivators My motives on Career Leaders are very in line with what I thought. Motivator section showed financial gain, prestige, positioning, and security. I believe that life requires various stages starting with high efforts and decline as time goes on. Therefore, starting to build my life at this time from nothing pushed me to put between my eyes the financial motivation. This is to cover my obligations and do my responsibilities toward my family. At middle age, I want to be in a position where others show me respect as result of what I have successfully accomplished during first stage of life. Due to my weak body and poor health condition, I tend to be motivated by receiving securities or additional health benefits that may help me cover treatment bills. Conclusion After doing all these assessments, I feel of standing in front of a mirror, and seeing my strengths and weaknesses. I should maintain the strength points stronger and concentrating on fixing the weaknesses. I should also get my head straight to learning required skills that will hopefully allow me to reach my aspirations of becoming a successful financial manager. Read More
