The Places and Spaces for the Preservation and Defense of Wild Life - Essay Example

We are living in the modern world with lots of technologies. Our life has become fast. There are lots of technologies which, have introduced for communication but in this fast life we do not have a proper time to talk with each other face to face. In this fast life, people used to sleep, eat, going for the jobs however, do not have a time to think about natural resources. The resources for which we do not have to do hard work. These natural resources are the gifts from the God. People are used to travel on cares, buses, trains, listens loud music, passing time in front of screens, take fast food and shop from supermarkets. However, in this fast life people do not think ever that how these vehicles run. Nobody thinks that from where the petrol comes. As well as, because of super markets people are entirely separated from the real source of food. Even people do not ever think that how much ecosystem has been affecting because of their daily routines of activities. Wild life is the main element for the preservation of eco system, but in modern life, wild life has become entirely minimized however you can say it has been abolishing with the passage of time. In the United States of America, government has separated the places and spaces for the preservation and defense of wild life so that ecosystem which, is highly affected from the decreasing of wild life remains stable. Plants and animals which are present which are necessary for the human survival and these species contributes to maintain the balance in the life of natural world. However because of the human interest, many of the places which are for maintaining the stability of wild life have been destroyed. There is always a danger for wild life because their habitat has been destroying with the passage of time. And without the habitat these species are unable to find food, migrate and reproduce (Gerstell, 1985). I have written that paper about those people who helped to preserve the natural places for the betterment of humans and wild life. These natural places are not just common areas that can be easily overlooked. These places are essential for wild life as well as for human survival. However, many activities of human are the reason of destruction of these places. As a consequence, plants and animals that make nature’s food web have also been abolishing. I have taken several interviews for those people who have given their essential part of life to those places for the betterment of wild life and humans. Firstly I have taken interview to Michael who works for the state of Idaho in the Fish and Game department. He is very persistent about of his work. He truly wants to preserve the species that create stability in the ecosystem. He told me very interesting and new things of fish and game management in Idaho (Organ & Gotie, 1998). The first part of our discussion was about history. He told me four hundred years back; how Europeans started to live in the eastern part of the United States first, how they had used the natural resources. After that he told how the people migrated to the west. He also informed us that Idaho was one of the most populated parts of the United States from the past one hundred years or so. Michael also clarified that even today, 60% of the land in Idaho is in the hands of Federal government and people do not have authority to use that land (Danskin, 1987). Further on in our communication, Michael told how this Westward movement of people had influenced the wildlife in the west. The ecosystems in the east are more durable because there is more rainfall there. Forests redevelop more rapidly and animals are more able to get used to new environment due to the increasing rate of humidity. Many of the Europeans that migrated to the west who knew that natural resources would never minimized because there was so much land present in the west. This was upsetting for some species such as the American bison. Millions of these animals were slaughtered. These animals were used for food, clothing, meat and shelter by the Native Americans. European settlers were only interested in driving the bison away so they could force the Native Americans to migrate and establish cattle ranges on the ranges roamed by bison. Michael explained that the near disappearance of the American bison is one of America’s worst examples of exploitation of wildlife in history (Morin, 1987). I also asked Michael about those challenges he faced while doing that job. He told his experiences that he enjoyed a lot while doing that job because he has to maintain the balance in the world for the betterment of humans and species and maintaining a balance is the hardest job however you can say it is the biggest challenge for me. He said in Idaho, it is the biggest challenge for me because so many different players wanted to get control of the wildlife and land. He said that there were powerful business interests that still wanted to develop protected land into houses for people and range land for cattle (Linscombe, 1995). After that he also told about the mining companies. According to him, because of taking coal and uranium from the mining process is the main reason for damaging the natural environment. Mining process is very much harmful for the rivers as well as the species that live in the river. He also told he is very efficient in his duty and politically he is working against the ranchers and the miners at private level. According to him, if the 60% of Federal land in Idaho is turned over to these interests, and then Idaho will not be worth living in. He also told that the streams, air and soil have become so polluted, wildlife has entirely driven away and people have a lower quality of life ( Brown, 1987). In the next part of discussion, Michael describes that balance is the positive enjoyment that is constructive enjoyment of the environment and it is against the negative enjoyment that is destructive enjoyment of the environment. . He also said that people should hunt and trap wild life in a managed way. He said that nothing makes him happier than to see families and individuals out while doing fishing on a lake or talking to some hunters that have had a successful hunt. I have taken another interview to James who is working for the preservation of wild life. Basically he is the student and working voluntarily. He completed a service learning internship from the Department of Fish and Game in Idaho. In the interview, he told me his experiences. James works to mend areas which, have destroyed by wild fire. He first talked about how much he learned about the natural world during his learning experience. He related that he had never made the connection between something as simple as trees and water quality. Trees are such an important part of the ecosystem and James learned that the management practices for forestland over the past few decades were really not satisfactory. The fact that fires were never allowed to burn actually made forests more prone to devastating wildfires. This is horrible for wildlife because entire ecosystems can be wiped out. Naturally occurring wildfires create new growth in forests that is important for many species of wildlife, especially deer. These animals love to live in the fringes and border areas of forests. Areas of natural burning create more fringe areas and stimulate the growth of plants that feed the deer ( Kallman, 1987). I have taken the last interview with Faith. She is a person who also worked for the Fish and Game Department in Idaho, but in a very different capacity. Michael and James were out in a natural setting most of the time, but Faith spends most of her time in an office meeting with politicians. She is a policy expert and a research scientist. Faith’s job is to make sure of passing legislation about protection of the environment and wildlife. Faith relates that her job is very challenging because the forces that want to exploit the protected lands in Idaho are very powerful and very wealthy. Millions of dollars are given to politicians in Idaho from mining, oil and development companies. These politicians then chip away at the rules protecting wildlife and natural lands. They are always pushing for fewer rules about where they can explore for natural gas or how many cattle they can put on federally owned range land. She says that her job is discouraging sometimes because she feels as though some people in Idaho are not satisfied until every bit of range land has cattle and every ounce of coal is pulled out of the ground. She notices that Idaho is a very strong Republican state and therefore used to do business. Her main hope is that enough citizens appreciate the beauty and usefulness of wilderness places and continue to protect them. I have written that research paper on the basis of deep research. I have read many books and articles. The main part of the research consists of interviews. I have taken interviews on those special people who have given their value time for the preservation of the natural world. And this paper shows most of the American people have forgiven that how to save the natural world but many people are trying their level best for the preservation of the natural world. All of these people feel closeness with nature and desires it to be protected. And for the preservation of natural world they are trying their level best, so that others can find the same joy they feel when in nature. This research paper and my other researches show that humans have really damaged ecosystems in many ways and because of this; we should establish a relationship between wildlife and humans. I have taken three interviews. Firstly I have taken interview with Michael then James and after then Faith. The interview which, I have taken from Michael was especially strong because I discovered some of the history that affects the world today.
