JANUARY 2, MEMO Supervisory team Midlevel sales manager Manager’s behavior Having heard about the merger of our company with Enviro Tech, I would like to describe some important behaviors and characteristics which should be exhibited by the manager of our company. I have drafted this memo to outline the importance of manager’s behavior in the newly proposed solutions/ service based selling model. I would start by saying that in any merger or acquisition, taking place between any two companies, the role of the manager of the company is of crucial importance. All employees of the company look towards the behavior of the managers, so, being the managers we should behave adequately and tolerably to all changes that may occur due to the merger. If a company wants to have a successful merger with some other company, it is very important that the manager of that specific company should be fully skilled and dedicated to the benefits and triumph of the company. It should also be noted that that unskilled and untrained managers can never put the company on the path of success, rather they turn out to be risky for the successful achievement of goals and objectives set by any specific company. So, it is really crucial for any company to hire such person for the post of manager who should have enough skills and abilities to proficiently meet different sorts of challenges and obstacles. As we know that our company, Interclean, is going to have a merger with another competing firm in the cleaning services providing industry, Enviro Tech, I would like to demonstrate some key roles and obligations of the manager of the sales staff of the company. We have a very talented and enthusiastic sales team with us. We need to manage them on such basis so that they become more effective and fruitful for the company. Now, I will tell the importance of the behavior of the manager by describing the affect of his behavior and conduct on the productivity level of the employees of the company. As first level managers, your interaction with the employees is of great significance. It is the strength of interaction between the manager and the employees which determine the effective productivity level of the employees of any specific company. If the communication link between the manager and the employees is active and dynamic, the productivity level of the employees will definitely rise. But when the level of communication between them is passive, the productivity level can never reach its heights. You should also keep in mind that there is not a single company in this world whose objective is not to increase the level of productivity. Following are the behaviors of the managers which directly affect the productivity level of the employees of any specific company: Inappropriate style of leadership affects the productivity level. An unmanaged and disparaging behavior reduces productivity level as employees leave their jobs due to such behavior towards them, and Rude behavior of managers increases the operational costs and decreases the productivity level due to atmosphere and distrust and anxiety. Now, being the supervisory team of the company, you should also know that when any of the above mentioned behaviors occur, increase in the level of productivity can never be seen coming through. Managers should define some proper ways as how to create such an atmosphere which could accelerate the productivity level instead of decelerating it. One of the proper ways is that the managers should understand the nature and working style of his subordinates. The managers should always try to find the positive and bright aspect of the subordinates instead of finding some negative aspects. “The simple and most power full ways are understand your subordinate; look the bright part of your subordinate rather than always finding the negatives” (Shelar, 2007). It’s very important for the managers to exclude rude behavior and include the behavior of approval and encouragement for the employees. If the managers of the company create an environment of love, peace and encouragement, the productivity level of the employees will automatically increase. Another important factor which may increase the productivity level of the employees is that managers should apply such behavior which promotes appreciation and approval rather than discouraging anyone. It will increase the potential of the employees which will result in a definite increase in the productivity level. Now, I would like to demonstrate some management actions which align with the employment laws and also such actions which do not go with those employment laws. Managers in our company should adopt such relationships with the employees so that none of the employees working in our company might feel discriminated. Discrimination always reduces productivity and results in failure to achieve set goals and objectives by any specific company. The management of our company should take proper measures in order to eradicate each and every discriminating law. Such laws and regulations should be made for the employees that are acceptable by all level of employees instead of just a single group pf employee. All business activities should be conducted honestly and in full compliance with designated rules and regulations. All recruitments, advancements and retentions should be made on merit rather than personal choice and preference. It should also be kept in mind that we have to come out of race, sex and religion now. It doesn’t matter whether the employee is white or black. The thing which should be considered is the skills and abilities an employee has for perfectly acting as a sales representative for our company. Fair employment should be given to each and every person by eradicating unlawful and discriminating laws. Fair employment laws and practices are not only required to retain and hire skilled employees but also to meet the laws of the company. So by applying these fair employment practices by the managers, our company will surely succeed in achieving desired goals and objectives. I would also like to describe some best practices for working in a diverse work environment of our company. We know that diversity is considered as a best practice area in order to retain and manage a diverse workforce for any company. In any environment or workplace, the efforts for diversity facilitate the urge for new perspectives and dimensions. Not only this, but also it improves problem solving mechanisms by applying various ideas thus creates a respectful and pleasant work environment. Taking diversity as an asset is the key to success for a company. Diversity management in our company should include climate of our company, mindset of the employees of our company and employees from different cultures and religions. Such effective diversity programs should be arranged which will recruit, retrain and develop strategies to company’s performance. Another practice is accountability of the results of the diverse workforce programs which would be done through effective use of focus groups, clients’ surveys and metrics. Our company should integrate diversity into leadership training, monitoring efforts and other programs like management-by-result. Workforce data and other related demographics should be utilized effectively and efficiently by the managers of our company. I would also say that proper diversity training should be provided to the workforce of our company. In our company, the diversity process should be considered as an integrated, continuous and a measurable strategy. Summing it up, I would say that if above described manager’s behaviors in the newly proposed solutions/ service based selling model are applied by, the merger with Enviro Tech would come out as a great success and triumph for our company.
