Download file to see previous pages The work environment and culture in the organizations are also facing tremendous change in keeping pace with the changing society and increasing competition. With the increased necessity of undergoing rapid change, it has been necessary for the organizations to generate newer approaches to manage the change as well as the psychology of the people involved with the change. Several approaches have been made to generate different models for organizational change management. But not much difference was found in them with one or two exceptions. Rather the newer models can be stated as an elaboration of older ones.

It has a boundary separating it from its immediate environment. A number of different perspectives and metaphors exist to define an organization.

According to Morgan the concept of organizations as machines believes them to be rationally designed to achieve predetermined goals. Organizations as a machine should provide only one line manager to each individual. The labor should be divided into specific roles and each employee should be managed by objectives. A team in the organization is measured based on the sum of the effort of the team. While believing an organization as a machine, the organizational change is assumed to be attained by the persons in the positions of authority only. According to this concept, resistance is bound to take place while exercising change and these need to be managed. A proper organizational change can be brought about when it is planned and controlled.

This concept takes the running of the organization and the political rules to be parallel. An individual in the organization cannot stay out of organizational politics. The individual needs to understand the persons having power and their peers. It is more important to create a coalition between individuals than teamwork. According to this concept, the published rules are not followed always.
