The laws and policies on WMDs are different in each state and in the federal government they are in line with the international laws and also depend on the types of weapon in discussion. An emergency coordinator needs to have a minimum of three years of experience combined with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in emergency management (Paula, 2015). The jurisdiction depends on the local and state laws and this also guide the assistance of the federal government. The benefits include salary, overtime hours, risk allowance and even insurance depending on the employer. The roles are explained in detail below. Ethics include enforcing justice and fairness, doing no harm, confidentiality among others (Coppola, 2010). Include a reflective section with a focus on the WMDs; what you knew about bioterrorism, WMDs, and nuclear or radiological terrorism; what you wanted to know about WMDs; and what you learned through this entire process. I have not specialized much in the in depth knowledge about the WMDs especially the radiological terrorism as well as bioterrorism but I know a bit about the others such as chemical weapons and the nuclear weapons. I have knowledge that these are the two most common weapons of mass destruction most likely to cause a wide impact of mass casualties and the effects are longer lasting than the other WMDs. They are also the most common ones manufactured and produced in many nations and a cause of concern by many governments (Wecht& Okoye, 2007). The information I seek the most about the WMDs is on the regulations being made by our government both the federal and state governments on containing these weapons and ensuring the protection of the people (Wecht& Okoye, 2007). This might be easy for the nuclear weapons but not so much for the chemical weapons as the chemicals can be obtained in labs including school labs or even in the black market in large quantities without knowledge of the government and this is a cause for concern. In my research and from the information provided by the interview, it is obvious that the government has put so much effort in trying to contain the WMDs from harming the people through liaising with several departments as well as universities and company laboratories among other different organizations to prevent mass destruction. I have also learnt of the numerous safety measures put in pace to tackle such emergency disaster in case it were to occur. Include some thoughts about what it means to be an emergency manager or disaster preparedness coordinator The roles of an emergency disaster coordinator are in line with mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery of a disaster program. It is the work of the coordinator to ensure that they plan and administer disaster programs to the community as a mitigation and preparation method in case a disaster strikes. He also has to coordinate with the local and state government officials on emergency management and form committees that can oversee the disaster management plans in the different localities. The coordinator has to constantly review and assess the disaster management plans and measures put in place by different organizations within the locality including their plans and procedures for recovery and response in case of a disaster in the vicinity. In line with this, the emergency disaster coordinator has to occasionally conduct disaster drills and exercises as a way to measure the level of preparedness and seek on ways to improve the response and preparedness further (Coppola, 2010). This will require conducting training of the public as well as giving presentations to the other stakeholders such as city council. Being an emergency disaster coordinator demands having different knowledge and skills regarding the laws and regulations about the disaster planning principles and practice, the emergency management procedures by the government and the policies surrounding disaster recovery. They have to be effective at both verbal and non-verbal communication, be able to hold computer skills and maintain proper working relationship with the employers and other stakeholders. All these will require holding Bachelor’s degree in emergency management and public administration as well as have a lot of experience in the field as well (Paula, 2015). State whether this exercise will influence a person to remain in the current field or seek further knowledge regarding possibly other employment opportunities in another field. The information from research and the interview even though slightly shallow of all that is required and deals with WMDs and emergency disaster coordinator job, it is very enticing and especially to an individual that is passionate about assisting people when there are disasters taking place (Coppola, 2010). I have passion in the area and this has only acted as a stepping stone towards increasing my knowledge on the field and renewing my passion on the subject. The exercise will most definitely influence a person to remain in the current field rather than trying to seek another employment. This is so because the field is about anticipating the disaster that might take place in the future and finding ways to prepare people on how to handle them in case they take place, how to prevent them from taking place among other disaster management issues. It is like being in the centerfield of a combat zone awaiting attack from the enemies and hence in the meantime seeking strategies on how to protect oneself and the rest of the team from getting injured or killed. This is the perfect field for anyone with not only the zeal to help people in cases of emergencies but those who are not afraid and are actually anticipating the adrenalize rush that such a job leads to. It is for those that have courage and are good at dealing with people when they are at their lowest through having effective communication skills. References Coppola, D. (2010).
