USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO MANAGE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING WITHIN A POSTGRADUATE LEARNING CONTEXT: MY EXPERIENCES & REFLECTIONS Table of ContentsTable of Contents 2 Introduction 3 Description 4 Feelings 5 Evaluation 8 Analysis 9 Conclusion 11 Action plan 12 Works Cited 14 Name of the student: Name of the university: Course: Date: Introduction In the current reflective study I will be evaluating the perspective of utilisation of social media policy in terms of managing personal knowledge and learning of the students and members of Postgraduate Learning environment. In the current report, I will be explaining my experiences and suggestions in any post graduation learning course. I am able to gather course related information, features and locations through the social media like Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and any personal blogs of students and the educational institutes. In the current segment, I will be critically investigating on Personal Knowledge Management system based on the social media platforms (Amine Chatti 839). I will outline my experience regarding the feasibility of social media policies of learning and knowledge development. Description I am taking part in a Postgraduate Learning program in a business school in the North London area. Personal knowledge and learning scopes of this program will be developed through different means of social media. I will be able to gain the insight of Personal Knowledge Management or PKM, Knowledge Management or KM and different learning theories. Personal Knowledge Management is mainly a process that enhances the possibility of gaining more knowledge and managing the development of learning and knowledge (Cope and Kalantzis 332). I think that PKM will create contemporary knowledge among the students. According to my experience, social media policy of the higher education institutions is quite feasible in personal knowledge management. Knowledge management policies are highly adopted by the companies and educational institutions. I observed that knowledge of the teachers and experienced people are disseminated among the new recruits or the learners with a sound communication system (Costello 634). Knowledge management process is adopting innovative approach for the learners. I observed that KM process in the post graduation learning institutes helps in recognising the scope of education. Being one of the members of the post graduation learning institutions, I am able to evaluate various courses provided in the institutions. The combination of the PKM and KM helped me to contrast the impacts of social media in managing personal knowledge and learning. I can state that knowledge management helped me to recover and share my knowledge regarding the educational institutes (Dixon 87). I would like to state that the social media provides heavy information regarding the course materials, features, eligibility criteria, degree provided and feasibility of the fees structure. Social media can provide me with the name or description of relevant books, course related reports, and teaching group’s qualification or characteristics (Drucker and Maciariello 997). I can state that different social media is developing sound relationship among the teachers, learners, potential students and old students. I think that interacting with the users or experienced learners will create sound perception regarding knowledge development. Empirical studies and my own experience outline that post graduation universities and other institutions are attracting students by disseminating relevant information through the social media. I got the demo enrolling process for each course in different institutions rapidly. I think that one can develop more feasible knowledge by interacting with other students or other related parties. Social media helped me to communicate with the fellow students and lecturers of the post graduation university program (Edwards 7). In addition, I can utilise the conflicting opinions of my friends and classmates. Thus, I can develop more critical knowledge regarding the various organisations. Alumni students are more trusted sources for obtaining knowledge management programs. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and many others have different alumni groups. These types of groups and management teams will increase the rate of personal knowledge development (Haines and van Engen 239). Feelings I can state that the process of Personal Knowledge Management is disseminated into many subsections. Social media integration in the learning style development will be enhancing the rate of knowledge dissemination and increase the capability of the learners. Collection of information is one of the major skills of PKM process. Social media is one of the major bases of the education and learning related information. Learners like me will be able to explore innovative knowledge base and update their knowledge base. Social media platforms are providing me with the chance of searching for the subject and course modules I am going enrol for. I can collect different information from various end users and alumni member of the colleges (Hjorth and Arnold 31). Proper Personal Knowledge Management emphasises on the information evaluation, this will provide more knowledge base creation and learn more on the features of course. Social platforms can aid me with the evaluation of quality underlined in the information set available. Social media usage in the learning and knowledge management of Post Graduation College will increase sensitivity analysis to fetch more values from the information available. PKM process helped me to organise various information obtained from the Post Graduation College (Honeycutt 359). Social platforms provide information on different type of sub segments. Therefore, integration of social media in the personal knowledge management process will increase my skills of selecting and organising course related information. I am able to modify my learning styles as per different type of information or platforms. Mutual relationships with the information providers will increase the potentials of gaining knowledge. Relational database are provided through the social platforms by the educational institutions. Web sites are one of the most attractive medium of providing information datasheet (Jain 745). Personal information software helps the institutes to store information in a chronological manner. In addition, this process helped me to access relevant information of post graduation courses. Personal Knowledge Management and use of social networks helps in integrating more information. Innovative technologies helped me to increase the feasibility of information sharing and developing new dimension of creative thinking in knowledge development. Information analysis is a vital part of PKM; students will be able to gain more integrative knowledge from the post graduation programs. Data mining helped me to gather significant information from different learning sources. Information analysis will increase the knowledge among the learners. Contemporary PKM process utilises tools like spreadsheets and statistical software in order to gain analytical knowledge. Social platforms and blogs are a source of former student’s experience and knowledge regarding the course materials. I can explore the knowledge base of other individuals to develop mine (Kosonen and Ellonen 139). Information must be presented in such a manner so that learners or the post graduates students can be able to maintain sound learning and knowledge management. My post graduation institute is disseminating the purpose of course structures. Social platforms are presenting feasible data on the knowledge development or the post graduation course feasibility. While accessing different social blogs I am to use different PowerPoint slides and statistical charts which will give interactive data. Being one of the potential knowledge development audiences, I can recognize the characteristics of the learning modules (Alberghini, Cricelli and Grimaldi 261-265). Information must be secured so that they are not manipulated or changed. This is a crucial stage of developing personal knowledge management. Colleges are able to set unique learning module for each of the learning or course modules. Security will increase the rate of the feasibility among the learning modules. However, implementation of social media portals in the personal knowledge management and learning criteria of post graduation learning institutes is quite complex. Recording of data needs to be updated all the time. I think that social media groups can lose their feasibility in some time. Different ideas of different persons can make the knowledge development process biased (Liu and Rau 1079). Evaluation Social media is one of the major crucial strategies that will create more attraction towards the post graduation or higher education programs. Effective knowledge management process uses the Web 2.0 tool so that they can develop more personal knowledge and learning among the students and potential learners. Social media helped me to select the post graduate institution and course programs from various options. I discussed with many of the alumni groups of the North London based educational institutes. Social media helped me to make global interaction with various friends and teachers for selecting most feasible course (Pauleen 2109). I have not faced any sort of complexity regarding geographical barriers for communicating with different groups. People from different parts of the globe gave me their perceptions and experience for different type of factor. Social media consist of relevant contents that aided me to share my educational experience and knowledge base. I am able to interact with different type of educational representative with the help of social media platforms. Knowledge base will be combining the diverse experiences of the post graduate students and professors. Social Groups are the source of insights regarding study contents and features of course materials (Pauleen 2109). I observed that knowledge management process of the post graduate learning process is providing detailed attention to the social media usage (Pauleen and Gorman 791). Students like me will increase competitive advantage besides gaining more knowledge base. This module will empower other students and educationalists in order to enhance their strengths of learning. Mainly this system outlines lifelong learning, which will maximize the opportunities of gaining more knowledge from any post graduation program. Analysis I can state that to become more efficient and gain more knowledge, students must engage themselves with the post graduation learning process. Individual learning must be integrated with personal knowledge management process. Social media groups and pages are providing information regarding the semester syllabus, pass criteria and time schedules (Amine Chatti 831). As a student I am able to collect relevant information from social sites. I can evaluate the course effectively with the help of the information disseminated in different social media groups, pages, and social blogs. I think that social media is the best platform for developing virtual relationships which can help in sharing knowledge. Social communities creates favourable psychological ambience among the learners and potential students (Liu and Rau 1081). Social network platforms are gaining huge popularity in the knowledge development industry. Students are able to engage themselves in a more incorporated manner. I observed that students are energetically using personal knowledge development programs. I have been able to gain insights and help from alumni students regarding semester examinations. Conversations developed my critical skills of learning and knowledge development for my post graduation course module (Smedley 229). I have joined different groups on Facebook, Twitter, and many other personal blogs of the teachers and the students. Such networks helped to link various potential personal and academic perspectives. In addition, I am able to link various socio cultural aspects of learning skills and personal knowledge management with the help of social media groups, pages and educational blogs and educational domains (Sondari 426). I have some experience of the web 2.0 or the social media use to manage learning and knowledge dissemination program. I am able to develop creative communication with the fellow members and teachers in terms of gaining more favourable knowledge. Social media usages helped me to utilise the conventional downward communication. Leadership 2.0 platform disseminated proper empowerment teaching guidelines in the learning courses. I am able to use the group features of gaining more knowledge. I am able to avoid the complexities of communication chain of the teachers and students with the help of social platforms (Verma 437). Social platforms are increasing participation among the students. Students group are able to exchange their beliefs and ideas. They can develop networks among each other to exchange their beliefs, ideas and knowledge base. I am a part of different social groups which help me to read various blogs in order to obtain diverse knowledge and ideas on the course module. Social platforms provided me with the expert knowledge idea. I am able to identify range of experts in the social platforms and communicate with them to gather more course relevant information. Online student profiles are maintained in my educational institution. Student profile helped me to interact with the fellow members of my class and the graduates of same stream. Fulfilling other queries helped me to gain more insights on the related learning modules or course syllabus. Thus, I can empower my skills and knowledge through interacting with my groups and fellow members (Warren, Davies and Simperl 1074). Conclusion In the report I am able to state the outcomes of the usage of the social media in terms of increasing knowledge and learning in post graduation learning college. I can state that with help of my real life experience, more understanding on the social media tools are developed. I am able to use the social networks and blogs like Facebook, Twitter, tumblr and the institution’s student’s group blog helped me to increase the engagement with the other members. Knowledge sharing ability of classroom members will increase with the help of social platform usage. My personal knowledge management process developed with mainly three different phases. I can seek for the extensive learning and personal knowledge development; my PKM process will be based on rationality and feasible. Sharing of my knowledge among the other team members or juniors will provide more scope of gaining more knowledge. Using social media, my institute is able to manage the knowledge and learning in terms of managing pressure on the educational archives. I can use the web portals free of cost to access various educational journals, books, ideas, beliefs and empirical experience. Social portals are helping me to explore different dimensions of learning modules. Engagement with different group and fellow members increased. I am able to mitigate the challenges or the obstacle gaining or sharing knowledge in my educational institute. Moreover, I can trust more on the fellow network or the alumni members of my stream. I can participate in various learning and development programs arranged in the social platforms. My college is able to provide a brief overview of the course summary, fees structure and educational eligibility through the social web like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, and Linked In. I have my personal profile in the above mentioned social platforms. In addition, I can manage my social media profiles to gain more knowledge. Social media platforms are fulfilling my queries, my capacity of listening to others and observing teachers lecture briefs will empower my thinking powers. I am able to access different type of personal blogs and institutional record books; moreover, Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ are giving me scope of interacting with different people. Thus, I can develop more logical knowledge on the study course. I can share my ideas with the teachers and fellow students; this process helps me to clear the confusions. Participating in debates and interactive programs helped me to gain critical knowledge. Contemporary educational institutions are modifying the teaching style to increase the interactions. Interactive workshop modules and teachers lectures are published in the social media and blogs. Action plan In the future, I will assure a development of more integrated relationship among the different students and professors. I will get the review of the higher education courses from the teachers of that institute or competitor of other institutes. I will be developing my knowledge for getting higher appointment potentials. I will communicate with former students to gather information related to employment scopes from the concerned postgraduate learning modules. I will increase conversation skills of mine to interact with the college members or teaching teams. Class teachers shall be responsible for increasing rate of knowledge dissemination among various students. Communication with the teachers is requiring proper linguistic skills. I will try to learn from different type of classroom and external trainings. I will try to exchange my opinions and queries during the training seasons. I have to develop proper presentation skills so that I can express my ideas in the workshops. Universities are offering different type of practise sessions for the learners, which require efficient level of communication. In addition, I will try to increase the confidence level of mine so that I can present my knowledge and skills to the teachers and other fellow students.
