PhD in Organizational Leadership - Admission/Application Essay Example

I am writing this personal ment to support my endeavor in applying for a place at Indiana Wesleyan to pursue a Ph.D. in Organizational leadership degree. I am strongly convinced that the attainment of this prestigious degree will significantly enhance my ability to fulfill my career development in line with my life purpose. I am interested in researching real things that are applicable to real life, hence am strongly convinced that the attainment of a PH.D. in Organizational Leadership will significantly help me to convert my ideas into reality. I would like to pursue my studies at the above mentioned institution since I believe that it demands quality and consistency. This will also shape my academic as well as professional career such that I can meaningfully contribute to the society upon completion of the studies. There are certain qualities expected of the leader and some of them are acquired through extensive research about the behaviour of human beings. Psychologically, all human beings have opinions that differ from each other. However, this complex nature of human behaviour does not necessarily mean that they cannot be influenced and motivated towards the attainment of the same goal. It only requires good understanding of the needs of members in the organization in particular in order to influence them pull their efforts towards the attainment of the desired goals. It is my conviction that I will use the knowledge I will gain from my studies to conduct research that is meant to generate deeper understanding of the complex nature of the behaviour of human beings so as to be able to positively influence them to work towards the improvement of their societies and welfare. I strongly believe that my current leadership position will enable me to put into practice the concepts and principles that I hope to learn in this program. Already, I have experienced different leadership scenarios in my career and have realized that some of them are quite complex though they appear simple on the surface. There are certain aspects that require a deeper understanding of human behaviour in order to solve them. I have realised that aspects related to human relations are quite complex and they require more knowledge in this area in order to be in a position to effectively solve the problems that you may encounter. I have also observed that a holistic approach is required when attempting to solve problems such as conflicts among different members in the organization. It is not easy to convince the members in the organization to easily reach consensus about different issues. As human beings, we all have aspirations and needs that we need to achieve. As such our opinions may differ in various aspects of life. I am convinced that I can use this experience to gain a better understanding of the nature of human relations and the way they behave. As a prospective leader, I am hopeful that the knowledge I will gain from my studies will help to be in a position to align the views of the other members in the organization towards the attainment of the set goals and objectives. It may not be easy to do that without proper understanding of human behaviour. From my own understanding, the concept of leadership refers to the ability to influence other members in the group toward the achievement of the desired goals. The understanding of the leadership concept is very important in my professional field in that it will help me to establish the direction to follow by establishing the vision for the future. I also strongly believe that the success of the organization is mainly dependent on its vision which is clearly stated. As a leader, I would then need the knowledge Organizational leadership to align the people in the organization by informing them about the vision of the organization as well as inspiring them to overcome the problems they may encounter in executing their duties. Attaining a vision in the organization is not an easy feat since this can be done through the efforts of other people. Therefore, it is imperative to persuade the members in the organization to share the same vision with the leader. I believe that a leader who has strong organizational skills can appeal to the interests of the followers in the organization. Therefore, attaining a Ph. D Degree in Organizational Leadership will significantly improve my organizational and leadership skills such that I can be able to motivate other people to put optimum effort in their performance towards the attainment of the desired goals in the event that I get the opportunity to lead a large organization. I also believe that the attainment of this degree will also shape the way I will relate with people in a bid to gain their support in pursuit of the desired goals and objectives. I am also convinced that I possess the right qualities to obtain a scholarship necessary to complete the doctoral coursework and a dissertation for this program. The issue of funding can be a bit challenging but given the chance to get sponsorship, I am very confident that I will excel in my studies. I have excellent research and report writing skills and these will help me to produce a well researched and scholarly thesis for my degree. I also have extensive reading skills and these have helped me to gain more knowledge in different aspects of life in general as well as various leadership aspects. I will also like to use this opportunity to contribute towards the body of knowledge that exists in this field of study so my endeavor deserves some form of financial assistance in order for it to be successful. This will also help me to engage in wide research in order to come up with the best information that can help solve all the problems that would be identified in the study. The other good thing about me is that I can work independently as well as a team member and at times I can also work under pressure. It is my conviction that my ability to work as a team member significantly helps me to share knowledge with other people. Essentially, this is a very effective strategy for learning since it will help me to generate the much needed knowledge in different aspects about my career. I also think that my approach to undertake research is a bit advanced since I will use different sources to obtain the information needed to write my doctoral thesis. This makes me a good candidate to get scholarship to pursue my studies in the above mentioned field. I have good as well as convincing evidence of sufficient computer skills to engage in the following aspects: online discussion forums, access online library resources, engage in online videoconferencing, and utilize word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Most of my work is conducted online and I strongly believe that this communication strategy is very effective. It is efficient and it is relatively cheaper compared to other means of communication. For instance, you do not need to travel to different places to obtain information about different subjects since this can be readily accessed from the internet. I have also used the internet to conduct my previous studies and this has proved to be very fruitful. Through the internet, I have successfully conducted different researches and obtained data from different participants in the study. I also use online forums such as social sites to link with other people in different parts of the globe. I have different accounts for social sites such as Facebook and Twitter and I use these for social, academic as well as businesses purposes. I have realized that it is easy to exchange information and ideas with other members of the online forum since they can also use the same platform. This method of communication is hassle free and it is a very effective tool that can be used for research purposes. I am also working towards developing a personal website to post my works.
