resource director in a large company that is experiencing performance issues such as underperformance and low levels of employee engagement in some departments, this discussion identifies and evaluates strategies, models, and practices that I would implement for effective management of organizational and employee performance. Performance is an important aspect of an organization, both as a product for which organizations invest and as a means to monitoring and evaluation desired outcomes. Armstrong (2011, p. 80) explains that performance entails factors that an organization has realized and means of realization.

Armstrong’s definition of performance concept further identifies a process with “inputs, throughputs, and outputs” as three basic elements (p. 80), and therefore establishes management as a core factor to performance. Cardy and Leonard (2011, p. 3) also explains significance of performance management as a primary concept to ensuring organizational and employees’ effectiveness. The authors’ identification of outcomes and behaviour as the fundamentals of performance is consistent with Armstrong’s three elements of performance concepts through inputs and throughputs.

In addition, the performance management process that the authors propose relates to throughputs, with the aim of positive mediation for optimal outcomes. Other elements of the performance management process, according to the authors, are “diagnosis,” “evaluation,” “feedback,” evaluation and incorporation of feedback, and performance improvement (p. 5). In handling the situation at the organization, identification and understanding of inputs, throughputs, and outputs would be necessary and the identified stages of the performance management process would be implemented to identify weaknesses in human resource practices towards optimal outputs.
