Solutions The ‘flies on breakfast buffet table’ problem facing Prescott Hotel can be solved by introducing a food hygiene management policy and through effective staff interviewing during selection together with medical screening examinations from an approved medical Centre so as to work as a food handler. A good food hygiene management policy when in place has the capacity to compel the staff of Prescott Hotel to always be aware of their duties and responsibilities and the laid down practices by the management at the Hotel. It is the duty and obligation of the Hotel management to ensure that this policy is communicated to the staff. When this system is in place will ensure that the esteemed customers of Prescott Hotel will receive best utility. Flies in the hotel’s buffet table are a clear indication that the Hotel is experiencing poor hygiene disposal or recycling of her waste. Poorly cleaned surfaces have the potential to be colonized by bacteria and thus a threat to both customers and the stuff’s safety. On the other hand, a food handler’s certificate is very critical since disease causing organisms are everywhere and the staff can be infected either before or after the hiring.Pre and post testing of Prescott Hotel’s staff is highly recommended so has to seal all possible food contamination loopholes and there on infecting their customers. Any future food poisoning to a customer from this Hotel can cultivate negative publicity which will in the end chase away both potential and the esteemed customers. Definitely these two possible solutions have an impact on the business, employees and the customers. Firstly, the food hygiene management will hold the employees of the Prescott Hotel accountable for their doings. The staff will administer chores in a professional way thus good service will be rendered to the customers. Properly cleaned buffet tables and well managed and disposed waste in and around the hotel will eliminate flies all over. This concerted effort will, nevertheless, culminate to a clean Hotel environment and best services to customers. Food handler’s certification impacts the employees in a positive way. Subjection to the medical examination will not only ensure the health of the staff but also in a more profound way ensure the health and safety of the customers. Secondly, the policy system once adopted will have an impact on the customers. Well fine-tuned employees will render perfect services to the customers. This good sanitation will then impress the customers and they will, by word of mouth spread the good name of the Hotel thus the positive publicity will prevail. This good response will thus attract more customers and thus a big boost to the business. The food handlers certificate will in the long run safe guard the health of the customers. Healthy customers will yearn for more services from the Hotel and hence more profitability from the Hotel’s returns. Thirdly, once the policy is in place, it will automatically propel the business towards growth. With increased returns from sells of the services to wiling customers, Prescott Hotel will grow and thus a positive impact on the business progress. Despite the fact that the two solutions have the potential to impact positively on the business once effected, it is worthwhile to note that for immediate implementation, I propose the Food Hygiene management policy as opposed to food handler’s examination test. This policy is the mother of the latter in that, any failure in food hygiene can be catastrophic and does not discriminate whether one is already medically examined or not. Huge costs and risks are always associated with any failure in hygiene .This costs are not only limited to public healthy cum safety but also to the reputation of the Hotel, the business as well as customer satisfaction. Though it is notably convincing to ensure that her employees are screened before and after recruitment, it does not necessarily guarantee safety of the staff and the customers to some extent. It is therefore a decree to ensure that the management of the Prescott Hotel provides water of good quality, excellent hygiene and sanitation to curb ‘flies on breakfast buffet table’ situation amongst others which can emanate and consequently mitigate the hotel’s effort to offer superb services. It is obvious to say that if the management of Prescott Hotel wishes to progress well with offering services to their customers and to leave them satisfied then the Food Hygiene management policy can only be the better option. Through this policy the hotel will ensure that standard facilities exist with beneficiaries flowing making Prescott Hotel an attractive workplace for her employees. Also through this, some of the causes of Prescott Hotel negative publicity will be addressed as opposed to the second solution which is more of a personal hygiene requirement. In order to compete well in the Hotel industry, Prescott Hotel will have to install new refrigeration systems to preserve her fruits and prevent them from over ripening as well as vegetables and other moist plant materials. In order to effectively implement a successful proposed solution I will recommend a thorough, detailed plan which is very systematic. Firstly, management should ensure that there is full and active support. Executives and senior managers have a duty to commit themselves into leading, supporting and following up the implementation process so as for it to be a success. Secondly, there must be effective communication in the implementation endeavour. Poor communication will derail the speed of implementing the solution proposed. Thirdly, it’s very critical to have employee involvement. The implementation process will only be a success if all the employees are given a chance to participate fully and their opinions taken into consideration. Fourthly, there is great need to have a thorough organizational planning as well as a competitive analysis. Lastly, management should ensure that there is widespread perception of the need for the strategic planning. In conclusion it is worth noting that the implementation process costs are inevitable as money will be used .Every participant is paid and money is used in the process. The period of implementation depends on cooperation .Maximum cooperation from the team will make fruits appear in a fortnight. The labour or activities expected will include establishing a clear vision to be married with the strategic plan implementation process.
