The Career of a Manager General Description of the Career I desire to pursue my career as a manager. Managers are regarded as the soul of any organisation. In any business, managers play an imperative role in planning and making effective decisions. They are also liable for allocating certain organisational resources including human, material and financial in a better way. Managers set short-term objectives for organisations and assist in obtaining greater success in the business markets where they operate (Cieślińska, 2007). Judging about the significance of managers in an organisation, I would prefer to develop my career in this field. Review of Current Position At present, I possess certain skills that would be helpful in pursuing my career as a manager. For example, I am quite proficient in the field of accounting and statistics. These skills are vital for becoming a manager as accounting would help me in managing the financial resources in a better way and statistics would aid in forecasting demands efficiently. However, as a manager, my prime concern would be generating profits for an organisation. Creation of sufficient profits is concerned with better management of risk and proper investment (Saville Consulting, 2008; Pollak, 2011). However, I do possess certain limitations that can hinder my career progression. In this similar context, it is to be mentioned that managing a big organisation would be a quite challenging task for me. Significant amount of time and effort must be devoted for proper management of a business linked with such organisations (Amtek Engineering Ltd, 2010). Thus, according to my viewpoint, I need a strong and capable team, which can assist me to undertake various duties and fulfil the organisational objectives. I will require developing team management skill and other vital managerial skills in order to become a manager. Career Plan At present, I did not decide to which field of management I would prefer to pursue my career. Among various fields, I am planning to become a marketing or financial manager. This career has attractive potentialities and opportunities in modern era. Thus, an effective plan has been made in the following based on which I could successfully pursue my career and at the end become a potent marketing or financial manager. First Career Plan Target In order to pursue my career, I would like to understand regarding the world of business and administration. Thus, I will enrol in Foundation degree in business from Warwickshire College. Furthermore, I will learn about the nature of business organisations and the environment wherein they operate. It would be a short-term objective of my large career plan and the degree will be completed within one year (The Warwickshire College, n.d.). Second Career Plan Target After completing the foundation degree in business, I will pursue bachelor’s degree on management from Royal Holloway University. Studying in this university on management field will help in identifying my individual skills, strengths and abilities. The time span for this course is four years. This course will help me to make broader personal development and progress employability along with life skills. Additionally, this course will develop my cognitive abilities based on critical thinking, enhancing my problem-solving abilities, making me efficient in strengthening quantitative abilities and most vitally enhancing my self-management as well as interpersonal skills (Royal Holloway, n.d.). Third Career Plan Target After completing my bachelor’s degree in management, I will enter an organisation for the purpose of internship. Basically, I will prefer to have internship on business development management. It will help me to gain real-life experiences in dealing with various customer relationship interactions, exploitation of business opportunities, management of business and use of data management tools. Furthermore, the internship program will enhance my communication and learning ability, which will be helpful for my long-run career progression (Studio-solution, 2012). This is a midterm objectives and the duration for its completion will be around one year. During the internship, I will require to accumulate sufficient experiences and skills to perform as an effective manager. Fourth Career Plan Target Finally, after gaining sufficient information as well as knowledge and developing skills, I strongly believe that I will be able to start up a new business or establish my own company. Starting up a new business will provide more rewarding life than working in a company. In the UK, it is reported that every year, above 500,000 individuals start a new business. However, the survival rate of starting a new business or a company in the UK is found to be quite low (Sage (UK) Limited, n.d.). In this regard, I believe that my greater learning ability, economic understanding and managerial capacity that I will be gained through various experiences will help me to run a business appropriately. This is a long-run objective and it will take around four to five years to establish a business successfully. Review of Career Plan Since I am presently pursuing my first career objective, I believe that it will provide me the opportunity to understand the field of business as well as the way to fulfil my other career objectives. Unless I find better opportunities in other areas of career and find experienced professionals to guide me, I expect that I will not change my career choice. After finishing my foundation degree, I believe that this will help me to learn certain essential skills that would aid in forming broader communication with others. The objective of my second career plan is to learn every type of skill and knowledge, which is required to manage a business. Furthermore, the study in Royal Holloway will assist me in managing the economic trends and also venture capital efficiently. The goal of the third plan is to obtain adequate experience. After graduating from Royal Holloway, I believe that there lays the requirement of possessing certain practical experiences, which will assist me in establishing my own business in future or enter into a large multinational organisation. Overall Review of Career Plan In order to pursue my career, I require countless aspects to learn. These aspects include interpersonal relationships, critical thinking abilities and problem-solving capacities among others. At present, I am still learning and one of my key objectives is to perform better in foundation degree.
