IMPACT OF ATTITUDE AT WORKPLACE AFFILIATION: SOUTHERN ILLINOIS Impact of Attitude in the Workplace Introduction For any organisation to be successful, it needs to make sure that all the functions of the business are working in proper order. All the human resources working for the organisation should be carrying out their duties in accordance with the goals and objectives for the organisation. The top management needs to make sure that the authorities that are delegated to the department managers and the line managers further down should carry out their tasks according to requirements so that everything runs systematically in the organisation. For the goals and objectives to be achieved successfully for the organisation, the attitudes of the managers and employees need to be positive in the workplace. A healthy and positive attitude in the workplace is extremely important for the organisation to run successfully in the business market. All tasks should be delegated in a proper and clear way so that everyone achieves the tasks in the required manner by the organisation. The attitude of the employee and the managers should be positive. The employees should perform their job roles in the required manner and the manager should have a positive way of dealing with the employees so that the attitudes of the employee remains productive and is of mutual benefit to both the employee and the organisation (Appelbaum 2002). The way the employee have their attitudes at the workplace affects the success of the organisation. The productivity level of the organisation is affected by the behavior of the attitudes in the workplace. At times employees may not be aware of this fact that their attitude has a strong impact on the workplace as well as on other colleagues. The positive attitudes of the employees tend to result in the productivity levels being increased for the organisation and negative attitudes tend to have the vice versa effect. The managers have a huge responsibility of getting the required level work done by their subordinates and if the attitude of the employee is not positive then the manager may have to face problems in getting the work done effectively and efficiently. The element of attitude has its influence from various sources and it may have effects on the managers at the workplace. The attitudes of the employees at work may not be influenced by just the pay scale. Their designation at workplace also affects their behavior at work. There are internal influences as well as external influences for the behavior and attitudes of the employees at workplace. The internal influences that affect attitude may be the surroundings of their work environment; the external influences are the affects of the factors that impact the employees in their personal lives. The manager needs to be proficient in dealing with all types of attitudes at work so as to get the work done at the right time. It is an utmost necessity that managers should have a positive and controlling attitude at all times in the workplace so that it gives a positive image to the organization. In times of under pressure work, control and calmness needs to be shown from the end of the manager so that the subordinates can as well work upon controlling the requirements of under pressure work in an efficient and effective manner. A positive attitude from the manager with the job role dealing for the employees can have very positive results for the organisation such as what follows: Managers can control the workplace behaviors and emotions by implementing a proper reward system and dealing with it in a fair manner so that no employee complains of favoritism or biasness towards any particular employee. The rules and regulations set at the workplace by managers should be appropriate and reasonable so that all employees can work in comfortably and given in their best performances. The managers should deal in a professional manner in case of any upsetting situations at the workplace. Unexpected critical situations may arise that may cause a lot of problems for the managers to handle their staff. The managers should set themselves as role models in the workplace. They should carry out their duties in one of the most efficient and effective manners so that the employees can work more appropriately while following their manager’s footsteps. The managers should have a positive level of communication so that they are able to deal with the all the delivery of good and bad news to the employees in an appropriate way. The managers need to develop positive ways of communicating their messages so that no resistant should occur from both the sides. The tone of the manager should be positive at workplace so that the attitudes of all the employees are in control and they perform all their duties well. Negative Attitude of Managers at Workplace If managers have negative attitudes at workplace then this attitude impacts the organisation work processed. A negative attitude from the managers may impact the work performances of the employees, they may lose their motivation towards working well and they may not focus upon conducting their tasks efficiently and effectively. The employees also may start to look for other jobs as they may be dissatisfied with the manager’s negative attitude. This would be a very heavy loss to the organisation if some talented employee leaves the organisation. Therefore attitudes at workplace of the managers and the employees are very important. Positive attitude towards work should be demonstrated from both ends so that desired level of results can be attained. In any business, there are ups and downs faced. Complicated tasks may arrive and work pressure may increase. Managers may have to delegate lot of work to their subordinates and subordinates may have to work longer hours to complete the task. Throughout the whole process, a positive attitude should be maintain, frustration and anger may gets things worse and also professionalism level of working may be eliminated due to these acts. The managers should be calm and with consent of the employees should work accordingly in the organisation. The negative attitudes while working in the organisations can highly affect all the other human resources in the surroundings and also the work processes of the organisation. The negative attitudes can tremendously reduce the entire productivity of the organisation, as things being done out of order in one area may affect the entire chain downwards. The negative attitudes of the managers and the employees can highly impact the morale of the other colleagues and peers working in the organisation. Rumors about mismanagement may take place. This may heavily be consequential for the organisation as skillful and key employees may switch to other competitive organisations. Rumors of any type related to the organisation can damage the positive attitudes of the employees working in the organisation and may also affect the behavior of the manager. Positive attitude may take time to spread around but negative attitudes may finish the job in a matter of minutes and seconds. It spreads at a rapid fire rate and tends to initiate doubts about working procedures and other matters. The negative image impact the organisation and controlling such a situation may become impossible for the managers because changing negative views is a very difficult process. A bad working environment may not be appreciated by anyone and employees may lose their interest in getting things done in the required manner (Golding 2010). Reasons for negative attitude There may be many reasons present for the negative attitudes that take place in the workplace. The managers should always focus on the root cause to get the solution of any problem at work. There may be some employees who may like to create problems and spread rumors around the workplace. The managers need to get hold of such employees and keep them under strict monitoring. The spreading of rumors is a very serious concern at workplace and if proper steps are not taken at the right time then this may impact the organisation to a very large extent (Guest 2002). Effects of negative attitudes at the workplace Due to such negative rumors, many unnecessary serious conflicts may arise at workplace, feelings of some of the employees may be hurt due to misunderstandings, and there may be the rumors of scandals that may affect the environment of the workplace very immensely. The focus of the employees may be deviated if the manager doesn’t control the attitudes of the employees that are creating mischief in the organisation. An overall bad attitude may have to be tolerated by all the employees in such cases. The innovation and the creativity skills of the employees may be affected. The employees may start thinking of plans of looking for other jobs and try to stay in a defensive and protective mode. The productive behavior of the employee may also be affected immensely (Ramsay et al 2000). The group work of employees may be affected if the manager may show rude or highly strict attitudes. The work done by the group members may not be up to the level if they have to face negative attitudes. Gossiping and time wastage also occurs by the group members in such cases and this affects the entire productivity of getting things done on time. Also, if negative attitudes are shown by the managers then the loyalty level of the employees may also be affected; the loyalty of working effectively with the organisation may drop to a very large extent. Managers need to be always on the look of reducing and eliminating the negative attitudes of the employees at workplace. Managers also need to be persistent with the subordinates and the other employees in the surrounding work environments to have a positive attitude and work with optimum level of coordination and cooperation (Golding 2010). If coordination and cooperation is maintained within the employees and also with the top management then the business functions tend to run smoothly and also according to requirement. It is the manager’s duty to explicitly clearly explain all the aims and objectives of the organisation to the employee. When employees are clear on what the targets are to achieve they may plan their work tasks accordingly and complete those tasks first that are of a high priority. Managers should also constantly take reviews and feedbacks from the employees about the way the work is being conducted in the organisation. The comfortably level of the employee should be known so that a healthy attitude is maintained by the employee at all times. Managers need to maintain a healthy attitude in the workplace and they need to be carefully observant of their employees; there may be some specific employees that may be igniting the rumors and problems that may be impacting the other employees of the organisation. Therefore, it is very important that managers deal with all employees in a disciplined and systematic manner so that desired results of maintaining a healthy attitude at workplace can be achieved successfully (Guest 2002). Conclusion On a concluding note, a lot of responsibility lies on the shoulders of the managers to manage the attitudes of all the employees in the workplace. It is very easy for employees to develop a negative attitude but managers should aim for all measures of maintaining a positive attitude so that the organisation can achieve all their goals and objectives in a successful manner. The reasons of negative attitude should be discovered by the manager at workplace and possible solutions need to be implemented so that the negative attitudes can be overcome. The managers at all times also need to maintain a healthy and positive attitude while working so that it gives a positive impact on the employees. The managers should know how to deal with different situations in a proper and positive manner. Employees look upon the mangers for working in an effective and efficient way. The effects of the negative attitude can impact the employees immensely and the workplace attitude may be impacted on a very large scale.
