To maintain competitiveness, 25% of daily-wage production workers had to be dismissed for the next 3-4 months the til the bans would remove and production processes resume. The company is bound to reduce the existing number of production employees because of changes in the external environment; however, the old workers could be hired again once Superior Foods comes out of the crisis. In this way, employees could be mentally prepared and would possibly not portray strong resistance. Communication would enable the maintenance of relationships, confidence, and trust in employers because they could be recruited again once the situation comes under control.

Answer 2:

It would be better to use an indirect approach to communicate negative messages or news with employees working at production plants. Indeed, I would start with a positive note to recall the value workers receive at Superior Foods. I would then explain all the recent market changes and reasons that have compelled international food producers and exporters to take tough decisions to restore competitiveness in the food industry. This would help make workers mentally prepared for any expected negative news from strategic planners. Then, I would convey the bad news so that workers could assimilate this shock and accept the motives behind that decision. Finally, the message would end on a positive note with a reassurance to valued employees that they could rejoin Superior Foods after relaxation in bans and improvement in business prospects.      

Answer 3:

As you all know that our company Superior Foods pays special attention to its valued workers and opt for their welfare and well-being. However, we have been writing this letter to communicate recent changes that have taken place in our domestic (USA) and global markets. First, the mad cow disease has negatively affected our purchases of animals followed by a reduction in supplies from partners/suppliers. Second, our major buyers have either completely or partially banned the imports of meat products from the USA, which is why we have to reduce our production and aggregate output. In the light of above, we have to, unfortunately, take some tough decisions to maintain competitiveness and cost leadership in the marketplace. Hence, the top management has decided to reduce 25% of temporarily hired employees from the Nebraska plant. Nevertheless, we assure our valued workers (who are going to be laid off) that we would rehire them as soon as the bans are relaxed or annihilated and the situation improves. We hope these bans will not last more than 3-4 months and we would be able to employ again our all dismissed workers after the next few months.     

Management Research:

Motivation refers to the encouragement and appreciation of workers in a particular organization. Indeed, motivation could also be defined as an internal drive that induces employees to showcase their best and accomplish business goals and targets. Managers tend to adopt various strategies such as disbursement of extrinsic rewards (bonuses, commissions, promotions, and share ownership), high salaries or pay, fringe benefits (paid vacations and holidays, rent, fuel, sick leaves, insurance cover, etc.), flexible working hours, job enrichment/enlargement, peaceful and discrimination-free internal culture, and career development to motivate workers, increase their morale, trust, confidence, affective and normative commitment. Hence, motivation is an extremely important tool to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and performance of a business entity.

It should be highlighted that the Management Research question hierarchy is a process, comprising six levels, which commences by identifying a managerial problem and ends with a solution or final decision. The researcher will use this model to discuss how motivation could be used as an important tool to enhance the efficiency and performance of the Abu Dhabi police department.

It is worthwhile to mention that police officers are directly responsible for controlling crimes (murders, fraud, theft, larceny, rape, money laundering, physical torture, etc.) and traffic jams, maintaining law & order, and ensuring the security of citizens that pay various taxes to the government for welfare, safety, and prosperity. However, administrative problems and non-usage of available technological resources would have a direct, but adverse, impact on the performance of personnel who may become dejected because of managerial constrictions and backwardness. Hence, there is a dire need to resolve such issues by implementing new workplace practices such as flexible internal structure, use of information & communication technology (ICT), and induction of modernized police vehicles to increase tangible resources, capacity, and ability of the department. Indeed, the Police Department could reduce the span of control and shift towards a horizontal management structure to increase interaction and communication among officers. In addition, management information systems (MIS) could be inducted followed by the use of intranets to facilitate the free flow of information and sharing of ideas, concerns, knowledge, experiences, and expertise among officers (Cisco Press Release, 2010). Also, this would enable employees to strengthen their relationships and better utilize the department’s resources. Next, this could help replace the adversarial approach (or focus on individual performances) with collaborative (mutual accountability and teams’ performances) approach. It should be pointed out that Abu Dhabi Police department also requires the latest automobiles so that officers could reach crime places in the minimum time frame. This will not only boost workers’ morale but also the department’s overall performance (APD Communications, 2008).        

In the light of above, the research is justified to conclude that the Police Department of Abu Dhabi is required to amend its internal structure and induct a fleet of modernized vehicles. The flexibility in the department’s system will reduce the workload of workers and motivate officers to showcase optimal performance (Glucker, 2010).
