?REAL WORLD NEGOTIATION College Pay Rise Negotiation On Part Time Job The recent has seen the rise of negotiation as being keyto ensuring success not only in business, but also the daily family life and also within the government. Negotiation has not only proved to be a difficult affair, but also a complex process requiring skills, knowledge and vast experience. A successful negotiation need to be a win win situation between the negotiation parties1. However, there are various factors, amongst which include both emotional and cultural factors that affect negotiations. After a great deal of thinking and rethinking mainly due to the various economic challenges that the global economy that resulted from the economic depression within the world hence resulting to a rise in the cost of living, I considered facing and challenging my part time employer to consider increasing my salary which will see me not only improving my current statues of life but will also consequently making me live comfortably. Additionally, the increase would also see my employer acquiring maximum and satisfying service from me. Informed by the fact that successful negotiation is mainly realized through proper preparations, possess effective communication skills, being able to control emotions and having greatclossing the deal skills, I embarked on the quest for having a salary increase. As part of my preparation to face her and negotiate for my salary increment, I prepared myself in various ways as I have discussed below: I started by preparing a logical argument and evidence that could support and make my claim logical. Informed by the fact that activities key during the preparation process include developing position of strength, and establishing a foundation for success and developing confidence, I chose to start my preparation by coming up with a very strong argument as to why I felt the urge to approach my employer and demand for salary increase and why I stood a chance to see my salary being increased without much objection. I went on to compose evidence that will support all my arguments although in order to make my demand reasonable and realistic. I also considered my argument to be the demand for the increase to be because of rise in the cost of living and the supporting evidence was that other employers within the region had seen their salary being increased, inflation had resulted to the fall of value of money which in turned had reduced my purchasing power and therefore the amount I was being paid did too little to satisfy all my needs, there was also a general increase in price of commodities which demanded for more money than I was earning before and finally that it was also meant to be a sign of appreciation to for the good job the I had been doing for my employee for so long. I also went on to consider the amount of salary increase that I expect. I went on with my preparation process of computing and coming up with an amount of money that I was to propose as my increment. I choose to come up with the maximum amount and reasonable amount of my salary increase that I expected from my employer and also the minimum amount that I was to expect in the course of the negotiation process. As part of my preparation I also choose to come with a formal letter and send it early enough to notify and prepare my employee over the setting of the negotiation date and this was also meant to prepare my employer psychologically over considering my pay rise. Since my employer was never around and were never met so easily, I also considered my grooming as part of my preparation. This was because my personal appearance and outlook was also to play an important at either building my reputation or destroying it. I also knew that smartness played a critical role towards boosting my confidence. During the negation day, all went well and as planned, the negotiation date was set in advance and in consideration to the schedule of both sides not interfering with the any of our activities. On the negotiation date I arrived in time as expected in the office of my employer where l was welcomed by his secretary and after a while I was ushered into his office in which he warmly welcomed. The negotiation went on has expected and it was one of the best negotiation l had ever had. My employer was very friendly, calm and free to interact and negotiate with. He gave me enough time to explain all my grievances and reasoning in which he remained attentive although. I also had enough courage to explain myself and provide all ground for the justification of my salary increase and nevertheless, we disagreed to agree. After a long day negotiation that was full of reasoning and understanding between both parties, that is me and my employer, we finally came into consensus which was full of satisfaction to both of us. Has, I left my employer's office, I felt satisfied and appreciated and I was even determined to serve my master more than I had ever done before since I had achieved all that I wanted out of that negotiation process. The final outcome of the negotiation was positive since by the end of the day both me and my employer reached a consensus and my grievances as his employer had been rightfully addressed. The negotiation had seen my salary being increased by forty two percent of my initial salary. Even though this was my maximum target, it still was in between my area of negotiation and therefore satisfying. My interest was well served while that one of my employer was also adhered to. The outcome of the negotiation turned out to be positive, ultimately because of maximum preparation and the listening, understanding and leadership abilities that were in my employer. My courage, honesty and openness also played a great deal towards the positive outcome they came into place at the end. This negotiation also increased my morale to keep working hard and smartly since I came to realize that my employer and had been silent and keenly following my working progress among and more so he acknowledged the fact that I was always ever early in my working and the last one to leave. My employer recognition and appreciation boosted my personality and my working morale during the negotiation. I also learnt a big deal in terms of how an employer is supposed to handle his servants, relate with them and serve them never needed. Has I left the negotiation at the end of the day, I felt that I had achieved ninety percent of my expectation which involved my salary being increased by forty percent, my work effort being recognized and my working morale being boosted to a higher level than ever before. For sure it was one of the most successful negotiation since the key objective was achieved at the end of the day which saw not only satisfaction of both parties by also a consensus being reached2. Finally, despite the fact that I had a very successful negotiation, there were several areas that left me unsatisfied and could not help to criticize them. Some of my critique were that, at some stage of negotiation, employer seem to be command and rigid in terms of decision making whereby he could let me explain about the maximum amount of increment that I wanted, there was also a lot of time wastage during the negotiation in which I personally did not like, at times while negotiating, my employer could get of topic of negotiation and start talking about other matters in which they were not of my interest, for instance at some stage he started talking about his family affair in which it was none of my business. At some stage, there was also some sort of informality in the negotiation process which involved the changing of language from formal to informal. Another part that I have to criticize is the existence of tension although the negotiation process. As we engaged in the negotiation process their was tension whereby I felt that maybe my demand would lead my employer to sack me due to my unreachable and undeserved demands on salary increase that I was about to demand for. These were some of the critiques that came in between the negotiation process and despite all the critique, the entire negation was generally good and motivating. Despite all this, it became clear that true indeed, effective preparations plays quite an important role in determining either the success ot the failure of any negotiation. Additionally, it was more evident that communication skills also play a great role during any negotiations and the fact that human emotions are very unpredictable, it should at all time and means put under check.
