Managerial interview What you think to be a good manager The most significant thing that makes a good manager is the ability to get to know the advantages and disadvantages of your colleagues and use their time to enhance organizational performance. In addition, knowing the merits and demerits of your colleagues will enable the manager to know how to give up important things and use their skills in order to make them work as a team rather than work as an individual. For instance, good example of a failed manager is the one who base personal judgment on some employees. In a practical situation, there was an employee was very smart and talented. The manager decided to put so much expectation on him, and ignored other team members. Further, the manager did not have very good personal relationship with other ‘not smart’ colleagues. When the big projects come, the smart one was sick, and nobody did really know what happens and how to get it down as the ‘smart one’. Therefore, they failed the project. A good manager should be in a position to understand and know how to use people with different abilities in an appropriate. The manager first failed assignment because he or she worked as individual. It is significant to know how to work as team and utilize other employees. 2. Duties and the job he has: IFM- provides very solid research to study European sovereign funds. Statically in the long term as a manager, you want to maintain the gross rate of emerging markets in the coming 10 years time. The manager in this company is mandated to carry out weekly report on the market conditions and the micro economic performance. He has to develop a serious and solid crisis resolution and lead the team to the fields to negotiate with the center bank. In addition, he provides research papers to international financial market especially financial stabilities board. The people under this manager, in Washington D.C are more than ten, in the field more then 30. Team members are responsible for multi-party negotiations, assisting in researcher activities and strategically planning fieldwork. 3. Types of managers Aggressive and ambitions type manager. However, all subordinates and secretary encourage them all when he or she is very good. When doing peer review in order to learn to praise and be appreciated, it is significant to be friendly and nice to the subordinate staff and employees. For instance, a manager can arrange for travel time to give some gifts to people that did not participate in the task. For the all team’s benefits, the collagens is working with you not work for you even your Secretary is working with you but not as a secretary. This will in turn encourage team, as people in the organization will be able to work together like a family. Harmony is very important as it makes the management, employees, and subordinate staff to respect each other. As a manager, always give people a second chance buy not third chances as this might cost the company. However, when the third time happens (mistakes) the manager (him) will write the report based on the truth and reasonable reason. The manager will write the following things to an employee who has committed mistakes; he will write nurture report based on fact and send them to retrain before being absorbed again. The manager should respect different commons from the team members, but you have to make the decisions on time in order to enhance productivity. 4. management process Managers are usually engaged in motivating, planning, organizing, decision making and controlling. These managerial processes are very significant for the success of the company because they transcend individual ability of the manager and influence the entire company. A manager should realize that Organizing is very important because it makes a manager to understand everybody’s positions. Controlling give people second chance not third chance. It is significant that a manager to plan everything in time and ensure that everybody has the work structure (menu) to avoid confusion. To be a good manager, it is good to go to the office every Sunday noon to prepare the working plan. For instance, at this company, every day the manager gives collagens time to relax and take some coffee. A good manager should have a plan B back up plan. I have to understand the team member’s thoughts and motivate them to attain the same goal. In addition, you have to listen to the opinions of employees and other staff in order to improve personal relationship. The last, not least, when bad thing happens remember, you are the Capitan, take the responsibility, and learn from past mistakes because it encourages the collagen that mistakes do happens. Learn from the lesson in order to keep long-lasting success. The manager should act like a Learning coach by teaching collagens what should be and what should be avoided. Managers who are involved in planning process should have the ability to set goals and objectives of the organization, articulate a future vision of the organization by stating a concise and clear vision for the organization, identify benchmarks and developing strategies for the organizations. Strategies are important since they help the company to survive in the ever-changing economy. This can be attributed to business and economic elements that keep on changing. Therefore, organizations have to adapt to this strategic planning in order to survive in the competitive environment. Managers who are involved in organizing function should be able to allocate necessary resources to relevant projects, they have to recruit, hire and train staff, develop an organizational structure with positions, tasks and process, and finally, such managers have to identify and acquire necessary resources for the organization. There are those managers who involved in leading role. A manager in this capacity needs to include individuals into teams to foster teamwork and discourage selfishness that might hinder the performance of the company. Such manager has to align people with goals and visions of the organization, embody key organizational virtues and morals, and communicate effectively with the employees. lastly, the manager involved with controlling is tasked with taking corrective actions where necessary, monitor work performance, compare employees results with the set goals and translates organizational benchmarks into team and individual standards. 5. Manager’s role Why always say bad thing happens depends on luck sometime. Bottom line is the worst case when you do not realize what has happened no matter what happens. Managers perform the Leadership role in an organization. In this sense, they have to learn how to be smart and know how to deal with different employees. Using the smile to control and supervise you must smile. Then, tell yourself it is not a big deal. Therefore, many different angles of success are important but making progress is more important. When you are in a difficult situation, tell yourself that you will be fine and a viable solution to the problem will be realized. When you succeed, tell yourself that you are lucky to have succeeded. As a manger, if you treat the worst and high performance in a reasonable and coherent manner, people will respect you more because they will understand that you have the capability to turn around and overcome challenges. Further, you will learn more from actually work and career than from books or training. In organizations, a manager should know that teams are like families. Your team member starts to miss you when you are gone. Really like a family, the team shares same culture and same attitude. It is vital to work in a group despite the danger of giving responsibilities to other workers. In this case, managers should make sure that everybody in the group understands his or her role to avoid role confusion. This would make organizational tasks accomplished on time because working in a group ensures that much work is completed within a short time. Organizational managers should have the ability to manage organizational time in a good manner this is achieved by necessity, but the problem with necessity is that unwanted behaviors may emerge. The manager should wisely utilize the time they have. Time management is very significant because organizations are faced with a lot of work each day, which must be completed on time to enable the organization to move forward. Managers should strive to complete their work on time in order to avoid workload by working on key issues within shortest time possible. The manager should be in a position to identify key uses of time. For instance, what percent of his or her time is spend on performing certain tasks such as talking to clients and travelling? It is important for a manager to prioritize his or her tasks since there are a limited number of hours that a manager is supposed to work. Prioritizing will help organization to concentrate on more urgent and delicate issues. Therefore, a good manager should strive to prioritize their activities by concentrating on those that add value to the organization. This would in turn assist in executing business plans. 6. Managerial roles In order to attain the increasing demands of performing their roles, managers take many roles. According to Henry Fayol and Henry Mintzberg, a role is an organized set of actions or behaviors. A manager should understand all the managerial roles in order to achieve organizational goals. A manager performs an informational role in the sense that they have to connect and link all managerial work. This will ensure that necessary information is availed within time. They are tasked with the role of making decisions in order to make the available information relevant and significant to the organization. In this sense, a manager needs to communicate effectively to the employees, which is essential for the success of the organization because it is easy to change ideas into actions and words. It also enables the manager to deliver the intended information to the workers without difficulty. It is significant to note that managerial roles are illustrated individually but they form an integral whole because they incorporate everybody in the organization. The manager is the head of the organization and he or she represents the organization in all formal matters. A manager represents the organization both socially and legally to those people who are not part of the organization. A good manager should be in a position to interact with people and peers outside the company. This is very significant in mentoring, coaching, and managing diversity in the workplace. It is important to have a strong interpersonal skill in order to be able to manage people of diverse backgrounds. It also encourages networking and interacting within and outside the organization. This in turn fosters work commitment and cooperation among workers. As part of the managerial role, the manager should focus on establishing harmonious relationship with the workers and people outside the organization. This would be done by exercising empathy to make employees feel understood. In this manner, employees will be more cooperative thus leading to unity and understanding. Further, in order to foster unity and cooperation, a manager should be inclusive by assisting workers to feel included in the activities of the organization. The leader role states the relationship that exists between the manager and employees. The direct relationship with workers in the interpersonal responsibility puts the manager in a unique and commanding position to extract useful information from the employees. In addition, the manager is mandated with the duty of collecting and receiving information. The manager should disseminate vital information into the organization. The decisional role of a manager is concerned with imitating change in the organization. In case, there is disturbance in the organization, the manager is responsible for handing threats to the organizations. The manager is also is tasked with the duty of allocating adequate resources in order to enhance the performance of the company. Finally, the manager acts as a negotiator of the company in the sense that the manager negotiates business deals on behalf of the company. The a good manager is decisional in that no matter how many information you have, you have to make decision which you consider and you believe are the best for the success of the organization. You should be nice and kind to your collagen if he and she cannot make mature explanation of certain events. As a manager, make decision to get rid of the feeling of friend. The manager ensures that the he has a positive relationship with the employees. This is seen in the event when they share the same coffee table. 7. Managerial Ethics An organizations code of conduct or ethics contains its moral credo. Ethics are put in place to check and deal with employees’ behaviors. The right action is that which enhances the good of the actor. This particular action must be of maximum benefit to the person who did and the entire organization. The actor is least harmed by his or her action in ethical egoism. Moral behavior in this circumstance is directly proportional to its beneficial outcomes. A manager ought to act to enhance organizational gains and not propagate personal interests at the expense of the organization. Managers should have code of conduct that regulates the behaviors in the organization. In our building the big boss and only boss woman, every department has half men and half women. In Human Resource department, there is a lower requirement for female. The performance is not as good as before. Therefore, the roles should be based on abilities not gender. Even the idea is great but the result is not that good. 8. Conclusion In sum, a good manager is the one who is in a position to understand and know the advantages and disadvantages of employees as this encourages development of positive relationship between the manager and the employees, which in turn improves performance. In addition, a good manager should integrate and use different abilities of employees in order to work as a team. In the managerial process, managers are tasked with the duty of organizing, planning, controlling, and decision-making. The managerial roles of manager includes decisional (disturbance handler, negotiator, and resource allocator), informational (spokesperson, monitor and disseminator), and interpersonal (liaison, figurehead and leader).
