The librarians in Pine Ridge Middle School may often face difficulty in searching for particular books related to subject of interests or associated with diverse courses. Hence, based on this aspect, we have planned to develop a program named ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ in Pine Ridge Middle School library. The program will provide inexpensive and effective solutions to the school for managing varied library. The objective of the program will be to utilise the features of Google effectively in order to search books and other materials. It is projected that the program will deliver amusing experience to the students in terms of better management of books. Stakeholder Appeal: The primary stakeholders of the program will be the students of Pine Ridge Middle School. Apparently noted, a huge figure of students is unable to use various facilities of Google in the context of education. Thus, we desire to improve the ability of the students towards using Google more efficiently. The other important stakeholders of the program will be the librarians and the teachers. The program will also help them to better manage the library resources and the procedure of information sharing. Relevance to Campus Population: The program ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ will play an imperative role in enhancing the learning and literacy level of the students. Through this program, it is anticipated that students can access their required books or specific chapters of books within the campus. It is worth mentioning that ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ program will not only help the students in searching books, but will also prove to be quite useful for searching various images from the university library on varied subjects of interests (University of New England, “Getting the Most out of Google”). One of the key services of ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ program will be interlibrary services. Through this service, students can borrow books, articles and other educational resources provided by Pine Ridge Middle School. The other interlibrary service, which will be provided by the above discussed program include viewing articles as well as books easily. Students can always view variety of articles, books and educational resources that will certainly enhance their ability to learn and also literacy level at large. Furthermore, the students of Pine Ridge Middle School can also place request for a specific article. Apart from these, students can also have a discussion with the librarians regarding any information of books or reading materials. The interlibrary services will certainly allow for sharing educational materials with anyone within the institution. It will reduce the effort of students to find similar articles or books in the library (The University of Texas at Austin, “Inter Library Services”). Stakeholder Appeal: As stated above, the key stakeholders of interlibrary services will be the teachers, existing students and librarians. Through this service, stakeholders will be able to search information rapidly and effectively from library resources. The service will also facilitate better communication amid the stakeholders within the institution. Relevance to School Population: The service is quite relevant for the school population, as it will provide solutions to the students in developing their learning procedure through accessing valuable information. Google have countless reserves of information, which can be viewed and accessed by the students at any point of time. Through this service i.e. reserves, students can find books that are not available in the school library. Most vitally, students can narrow down the search relating to books based on the name of authors and publication year among others by clicking on advanced option. Finding images will also be quite easy with the reserves service of the program. With this application or service, students can limit their search for viewing full texts and required books. Students can also use filter option to search file from any format such as e-reader, pdf and doc among others. Hence, this will certainly enhance the ability of the students to search additional materials that match their learning requirements. Stakeholder Appeal: It is worth mentioning that as more students feel the experience of finding various books and educational materials in an easy manner, this might help them to remain updated with instructional trends. This service will provide better variety of resources to be used apart from school library collection. Relevance to School Population: The service of reserves is relevant to school population, as it will obtain resources that are not available in school library. Physical Access: The objective for introducing the program of ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ is to organise valuable information in a better way. It is essentially an online tool, which will permit the students towards searching books and other educational materials easily and within a shorter time period. Therefore, the aforesaid program will certainly make the school library accessible after-hours particularly for students and their respective families. Virtual Access: The program i.e. ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ is recognised to be an effective online tool based on which the students can have better access towards searching books and other educational materials easily. The virtual access for accessing the above stated program will necessitate personal computers or laptops of the students with internet connection. Most vitally, over 25 online research databases accessible to school campus population accessed through Google. Stakeholder Needs: Computers or laptops are widely available for sufficing writing along with research needs. Moreover, it is ensured that internet connection is present within these computers or laptops. Shared Funds Spent: Acquisitions: $8,000 computers $700 internet charges Total Spent: $8,700 Materials Acquired: June 2014: 16 Computers, 2 Routers and Wires Partnership: The local sweet shop Candy Store donates $50 dollars monthly that are incurred for offering refreshments to the students of the school and its invited guests for the program ‘Getting the Most out of Google’. Usage Data: ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ In June, the school held three ‘Getting the Most out of Google’ 16/06/14 Attendance: Children: 35 Parents/Family Members: 60 Website Accessed: 85 Service 1: Interlibrary Services E-mails: responded promptly: 105 students, 70 teachers Chat: No such evidences The above figures denote that there lay numerous students who use the program ‘Getting the Most out of Google.’ Most Popular Research Databases: Proquest: 550 JSTOR: 275 LexisNexis Academic: 140 Service 2: Reserves Hard-Copy: 170 Online: 210 In relation to the service of reserves, we have been able to notify the reserves as when required for granting approval of the materials required by the students of the school.
