While reading the story, the thing that first confused me a little was that- who is this ‘we’ narrating the story? I came to the conclusion that the narrator of the story might be the people living around Emily, that is, the public. The timeline of the story is also a bit puzzling. The plot of the story has a strangeness.
Sylvia has, basically, tried to portray the fear nurturing in the heart of the narrator- fear of being led and controlled by foreign supremacy or, more specifically, by male chauvinism, and fear of not being able to fit in the typical society. This fear leads Sally to make up her own dreams and copy other people’s dreams too.

Pirandello and the director want to challenge the viewer’s sense of self and make a point about madness- that if the product of creativity is mad, then we ourselves must be mad, too. A scene that specifically underlines this point stood out in my mind and continues to make light of the nuances of this famous work is the scene in the beginning, establishing the situation.

Summing up, one can see that daydreaming about a prosperous life may not help one to attain the same. Instead, it may lead one to suffer more. The pathetic story of Mathilde Loisel and her husband proves this fact. I like to read fiction because it helps me to unleash my imagination. When I watch a drama the scope of imagination is limited because I am attending a live show.
My initial reaction to "Girl" was, "What is the purpose of this story?" My first reaction to "The Story of an Hour" was that it was a beautiful story. I did not like "Girl" because it did not have anything interesting in it and it seemed more like someone's "to do" list. I could not relate to the main character because they had no substance.

Longfellow, one of the translators of Dante’s Divina Commedia, translated the word Contrapasso as Counterpoise (Dante, Longfellow and Pearl 2003), but perhaps Counter-Pace is a more accurate word made up by this student. It takes in the concept that when Dante’s characters reached Hell, they had to travel in a contrary direction to how they operated in life.
The way the ‘natives’ organize themselves is what he likes best: the way they have no formal ways of documenting and none of the modern trappings of contracts and laws. He reasons that because of this they have fewer disagreements. He admires their wooden tools and lack of metal. He likes their temperate ways, which he describes in a Utopian way, and their arrangements of longhouses and hammocks.
