Readers are helped to understand what the other readers have to say about the advertisements on clothing fashion in the magazines in a way of opinions. The journal is particularly useful to the media fraternity especially those printing magazines since they get the opinion of their readers there. It also delves into the effects that the advertisements for drug prescriptions could have on the youth and old adults. This journal is important since such magazines are not read by all people and those who do not read them can get comprehensive information from the article. It exposes the bad things and the goods that are carried out in this kind of advertising. It has weaknesses whereby in depth research has been avoided in compiling the journal. More comprehensive information could be necessary especially on the drug prescription advertisements. Mastin, Teresa, Julie L. There are various genres of magazines that carry such adverts. In this journal there is an analysis of a number of magazines that have been singled out as containing these drug prescription adverts. The analysis done carries some educative comparisons between the adverts and possibly how they impact on the health of the public. The importance of this journal is that the analysis done is very educative. People are able to know which magazines are involved, the content they carry and effects to the audience. However it has its weaknesses. It would be preferable for all magazine genres to be tackled to get a full picture instead of the few that have been used. Goodman, Robyn, Jon D. Morris and John, C. 2008, “Is beauty and joy forever? Young women’s emotional responses to varying types of beautiful advertising models” Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly 85(1):147-168 The journal is written comprehensively to answer the question of whether joy and beauty last forever. It contains the reactions of young ladies on the advertising models whose pictures appear in the magazines. It develops the understanding that beauty and joy are temporary. The models are used to show beauty, joy and to advertise other things. The journal presents the views of a section of the audience and in this case young women about the models possibly featured in the magazines. The article is important to ardent readers of the magazines because it helps young people get the right perspective of beauty especially that it does not last long together with the joy it brings. The article presents a well researched analysis of the link between the above. The study is important since from the findings it is possible to establish a relationship between the eating disorder symptoms among college women and the other variables. It helps to tell whether any magazine type can be in any way associated with the symptoms, levels of awareness, and the social cultural standards of appearance being internalized. Monique Ward 2004 “Pleasure reading: associations between young women’s sexual attitudes and their reading of contemporary women’s magazines.” Psychology of Women Quarterly 28:48-58 This journal examines the association that exists between the reading of contemporary magazines for women and the sexual attitudes of the young women who read them. It digs into the relationship that exists when the young women read the magazines and the impact on their sexual attitudes. In this manner the journal has been designed to be informative especially by illuminating on the effects of reading the magazines. People are able to know the direction that the young women take in their attitudes as a result of reading these magazines. The findings of the research are important because readers are able to relate their presumed media influence and the influence it has on women who want to lose weight. The women are also able to know if the influence they get from the media is worthy for them to change their body size or not. The reader is able to understand how the things that people believe about the media can affect the desire and decisions of women over their own bodies. However this journal has its own shortcomings. Critical Theory Kean, Linda G. and Prividera C. 2007 “Communicating about race and health: A content analysis of print advertisements in African American and general readership magazines.” Health Communication 21(3):289-297 The article presents an analysis about the content of print advertisements in magazines read by African-Americans and even those read generally by other people. This journal is written about health and race. It talks about the impact of print advertisements within these magazines on the health of particular races such as the African Americans. The advertisements have a special way through which they appeal to the African Americans. The findings of the analysis are useful to the readers in the relevant race and any other. They shed light on the effects that these advertisements appearing in the magazines could have on members of the race involved both positively and negatively. The weakness of this article is that in analyzing the print advertisements in the magazines the relationship between the race and health is not captured as would be expected. There is a deep exposition on the effects that creatureliness has on the reactions that people make when they see the pictures. As usual this journal is important because to the producers of the magazine it gives them knowledge of what the readers feel as they see the depictions of the pregnant women in the magazines. The journal looks at the impact that the advertising in the magazines would have on teenagers. Many readers have been given a good and ready source of information in this article. The effect of the magazines advertisements on the society would be useful information to various stake holders in the society such as parents and the government. The weakness observed in the journal however is that the content lacks the face of reality. Interviews, reactions from parents and teenagers could make the findings be more appealing to the readers.
