It is evidently clear from the discussion that Carson herself was already dying of cancer in 1962 when she wrote this book that spurred the upcoming lineage of oceanographers and marine biologists into a better world. It is such a disgrace that these chemicals had adverse effects to nature and could lead to mutation, gave an example of the children being born with alternating body parts or having parts not meant for a human being e.g. gills. The research on DDT and other synthetic chlorinated hydrocarbons pesticides gave outraging results, their ability to manifest them from its genesis to the topmost level organism in a food chain.

In many cases, even the human beings who sprayed the chemical ended up complaining of respiratory difficulties and after a few hours, they too succumbed. Some ended with permanent paralysis amongst another array of ailment that compromised economic production in the ecosystem. “Silent Spring”, as the name suggests, was a symbolic description of how the DDT chemical had silently built up and slowly killing and affecting reproduction in the birds of the air as well as the predators of birds alike.

This is why she argues that, in the end, it is safer to use biological methods of pest and insect control since they do not have negative impacts on the environment. I noticed how she mentions that in 1960 private citizens of America invested more than $750,000,000 in poisons to kill insects, rats, unwanted fish, crabgrass and other pests. Federal, state and local governments spent an even larger amount to put poison on public lands and private property. The chemical producers and distributors always hope that the pesticides demand will rise.

To dominate markets, they are willing to invest a great many dollars in research and promotion.
