Mano The poem Mano is a beautifully crafted poem that revolves around the story of a woman who is trying to look for repentance while she is trying to meditate. The author has gone through minute details by providing a detailed scenario of the stone that is using its way to go into the scalp of the woman. The woman herself is not worried by the touch of the stone and is rather concentrated on the worries of the world. In a while the woman realizes that something is grinding in her scalp and she decides to feel the stone.

This is stated by the author in these words "scabbed heel of her palm bears down (heel of palm) onto and into the skirlingssound stone merged with the hand". This clearly means that the woman tries to keep off the stone from her body by using her hand but the author tries to let the reader decide if this stone alone is the worry of the woman. In other words is the stone really worrying the woman, or is it something else that really is affecting the woman. This stone can denote the worries of the woman that she is facing in real life which may revolve around the physical or mental pain that she is currently enduring.

The author further goes on to highlight the minor things that are irritating the woman since the evening. These include the hair that has fallen from her eye lashes into her hand which later on merges with the stone that fell in her hair. I believe that the author is denoting a worry by the stone that fell on her head and this stone is now merging with other worries of the woman that she is currently having in her life. The author then tells that the woman notices grass eating ants heading towards a garden but it is here that the ants are not successful and eventually are eaten up by three guardian turkeys that were over there for a watch.

I believe that the author means to tell the audience even in the darkest of times there can be hope which is clearly seen in terms of the guardian turkeys. In the end the author states that there are people who may be going through this all the time but these people should know that there is hope in this world as there was hope for this particular woman who was undergoing pain. I believe that the author has connected the stone to the worries of the woman along with the ants and hair that fell in her hand.

The poem gives a positive feeling with the hidden message that it provides to the audience. The meaning hidden behind it clearly can help people to strive along the way as they are going in the darkest of moments. To me personally, the poem has given a feeling of endless hope in the darkest of hours. The audience should realize the hidden meaning behind the stone and the ants altogether to get a positive meaning out of the poem itself.
