Evidently, other potential measures can make the neighborhood experience a higher level of security. In the view of the older people, the security fence will serve as an effective security measure as it will keep outsiders way from the buildings. In addition, a security fence will mean that only residents will have the freedom to move in and out of the neighborhood freely. In some gated communities, security fences have served as protective measures. In serious cases, the security fence is usually an electric fence, a measure that scares away potential criminals.

Although the older people have the conviction that a security fence is the most effective measure, other members of the committee must air their views if a final decision is to be reached. The committee members will vote in an effort to determine the members in support of putting up the security fence (Hess 179). Although a security fence has proved to be an effective security measure in some areas, it may serve to give a false illusion of security. Some neighbors may become less vigilant assuming that the security fence will protect them all the time.

In such cases, cases of theft may increase. Moreover, the neighborhood has not ascertained that the criminals are not among them. It is possible that some people indulging in crime live within the neighborhood. Putting up a security fence will only confine them to the neighborhood, and they may continue stealing other people’s property. Therefore, it is only right for the neighborhood committee to analyze the situation critically before making the final decision (141). There is a salient need for the committee to investigate where the criminals are coming from prior to making the final decision.

In addition, putting up a security fence does not completely keep away potential criminals. Visitors to some of the
