Which character changes the most over the course of the novel?The novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is the story of a ten year old boy Jeremy Finch who lives in the state of Alabama in United States of America. He is being called as Jem in the whole novel. Since Jem is the central character of the novel the author made lot of changes to the character over the course of the novel (Lee, 2010).

Harper Lee has beautifully depicted the due course of the changes in the character of Jem and ensured that the readers are engaged throughout the novel so that the changes in the character are well understood by the readers.B. What caused the changes?There are many things and events that impacted Jem from the beginning of the sentence till the actual event. It was the span of three years, for which the story is actually written, is the transitional period for Jem. It is the time for any boy to undergo a transitional phase from the age of 10 to 13 as he enters puberty and adolescent begins.

Jem was nothing exception to it. The main reason for changes in Jem over the course of three years is his sister Scout (Lee, 2010). In the story Jem is seen teasing and aggravating Scout but on the other hand he is a good brother who protects his sister, seen as a best friend of his sister and saves his sister’s life in the end. Harper narrated many events and difficult situations that Jem has gone through that made him mature before time and with the due course development of courage in him (Osborn, 1995).

In the beginning of the story Jem is seen loving the childhood games. Slowly he started to get into his shell when Dill started to come and visit during the summer. With the progression of the story Jem started to become quite and pensive, which made Scout to call her brother moody.C. Does the trial change the town?The event of Atticus’ trial did not change the town of Maycomb neither the people of the town. However, the trial made Jem very angry and we can see tears rolling down his cheeks that became red with anger.

Maycomb is a southern town where tradition is everything.
