The compassion with which the speaker talks about love and desire in the poem compares to the description in the biblical analogy of songs. The speaker in the poem portrays fixation and charm to a lover that seems intriguing and surprising. In fact, love is depicted as contagious by the speaker to the extent that life depends on the existence of love. The last line of stanza one ‘I lose my place’ shows how much the speaker gets bound to the love emotions in the presence of the lover (john).

A heavy desire is an experience that everybody around feels, with the progression of every activity slowing down in order to satisfy the emotional desire. The description ‘the beauty we love be what we do’ explains the extent to which the speaker may defy every ordeal and obstacles to satisfy the emotional desires. Explicitly, wrongdoing or right doing is of less concern to the speaker until the emotions furnished with the gratification of the soul. Apparently, the speaker points the lover to be spiritual or sexual.
