According to the research findings, it can, therefore, be said that Dr. Donna Beegle seeks to shatter poverty stereotypes such as; poor people are lazy, they are responsible for their poverty, the rich and the poor have the same opportunities and the white poor people living in poverty deserve it. As such, she endeavors to provide applicable solutions to the poor in order to ensure they get out of poverty and stay out. In this book, Beegle identifies poverty by many different life situations which are characterized by situational and economic inadequacy such as generational, immigrant, situational and working-class poverty. Beegle wants her readers to understand that people living in poverty can come out of it since it is not a permanent state of life. However, this can only happen if they want to. By sharing her life story, readers understand how she was able to rise past her poverty situation which was very extreme. Despite having five of her brother incarcerated and with poor parents, she was able to achieve doctorate level of education. She notes that breaking poverty barriers requires a mind that does not judge so that it is easy to connect with other people in the society. With the adequate connection, one increases communication and this is key to breaking poverty barriers. She also wants policymakers, legislative and other people concerned with the welfare of people living in poverty to realize that the best solution to breaking barriers of poverty is by going directly to the poor people who are at the root of poverty and addressing it from there. This will enable them to fight poverty as opposed to policies which fight the poor people instead of fighting the poverty itself. Furthermore, she wants readers to understand that poverty is a real issue in the society and affects all people regardless of race or ethnicity as opposed to the stereotype that it affects only the minority in the society.
