Prof: y The Nuns Priests Tale The Nuns Priests Tale is the story of a cock called Chanticleer who had a wife called Pertelote. Chanticleer had a dream about an imminent attack by a fox and he told his wife about it and also explained the fulfillment of other dreams. His wife despised the dream and wrongly advised him to ignore it. One day, the fox came and seized Chanticleer from the yard in accordance with the dream. Chanticleer, however, managed to escape by playing a trick on the fox (Machias.edu). The story is meant to be silly because there is no ultimate punishment for the cock’s failure to heed to his dream.

The story features animals because the narrator is avoiding confrontation that might arise when he refers to a specific behavior of his audience. It is funny to have themes such as bride or fate in chickens stories because chickens are naturally proud. Chanticleer is a clever character because he is aware of the fulfillment of dreams. He also manages to find his way out of trouble when the fox seizes him. Chanticleer is also foolish because he is aware of an imminent danger but fails to escape.

The fox is smart because he tricked and lured Chanticleer into closing his eyes before seizing him. The fox is also a foolish character because Chanticleer eventually tricks him. Chanticleer’s deeds are prideful; he does not escape after spotting the fox and also he closes his eyes while crowing despite the danger. Chanticleer later learns about the danger of pride; he never came down the tree after escaping from the fox’s mouth. The Nuns Priests Tale teaches about the dangers of being proud and also the possible ways of getting out of trouble.
