Contributions of ‘Equality’ by Edward Bellamy Equality, a novel by Edward Bellamy was published in 1897, shortly before his death. The novel was very useful in developing the socialistic themes of the author in details. The book has a number of contributions in the turn of the twentieth to the twenty first century since the author shared his visions of the twenty first century. Bellamy advocated for equality in this novel, for all races and both sexes. His theme of equality had an important influence to the middle class women to fight for their rights and join the working industry.

In Equality, Bellamy advocated for equality in giving jobs to women and to also allow them to work far from their homes. This contributed to the early changes that took place during that time especially helping the middle class women to fight for their freedom to participate in the voting process. His contributions can also been seen in other areas, like in his vision for the year 2000 involving Boston as a garden city. This vision influenced the advancement of the British New towns and the Garden Suburb movements.

As a result of these movements, the American city was positively affected through development and planning. In present day, this is evident in Maryland, the New Deal town of Greenbelt, and also in Reston, Virginia, which was built privately.
