 Disability Test in Detail Describe the test in detail. At the very start dialogue boxes appeared with certain pop down menus. These dialogue boxes were demanding information regarding age, race, nationality, political views, profession, religion, region and postal code etc. After taking all my basic and detailed information I was allowed to proceed. Second task was on the basis of some pre requisite information like understanding of symbols representing able and disabled people. A list of category labels and the items that belong to those categories were introduced as good (love, wonderful, peace, pleasure, excellent), bad (evil, angry, sorrow, rotten, bomb), able (images and symbols associated with disabled Persons) and disabled (images and symbols associated with able persons) before starting actual task. Later on when test started a set of images appeared on screen. I was ask to classify them as good, bad, able and disabled. It was compulsory to respond images quickly. Few mistakes were allowed within in limited time. Five minutes were given to complete first task. It was necessary to recognize symbols representing able and disabled people to take this test. What did you find interesting about the experience? Experience was beneficial; results were so close to reality. Interesting thing was that, by combining basic information and response to particular questions, negative thoughts about disable people were predicted. Having some basic information about gender, ethnicity, race , status, religion, nationality, and political views and intellectual orientation one can judge ,how a person would respond(positive or negative ) to a particular category of people (able ,disable) .In my case it was my attitude towards able and disable people. Although these tests are not perfect by any definition of accuracy normally, but in my case result were so closed. I attempted the test 3 times. Each time come with same result, meaning that order and prediction of question does not affect results. Each time you try to attempt the order of questions and position and category of images changes and appear at random order. In this way one can’t hide his or her real opinion to very large extend. The orders are assigned at random. First time able people appeared on left side but this order changed in the way that it was unpredictable second time. The half test-takers got the X then Y order .While the other half got the Y then X order. The order has only a nominal influence on task performance. The test asks to group two concepts (e.g good, bad). The more strongly associated the concepts are, the easier it is to respond to them. If good and able are strongly associated, it should be easier to respond faster when you are asked. There was a pre-defined image in my mind that able people are good, I solved that associated part easily as compare to reverse. If bad and disable are not so strongly associated, it should be difficult to respond fast when they are paired. This measures, how strongly any person associate the two types of concepts (good and able or good and disabled). The more closely associated, the more quickly one should be able to respond. This method is quite efficient for measuring automatic attitudes. One can’t predict order here and his or her true or automatic response come out without any fabrication. Were the results consistent with your explicit thoughts? If not, why might you think the divergence occurs? Well my conscious and intentional thoughts are consistent with declared results. Results declared me as a person with strong automatic preference for able persons compared to disabled Persons. It is an implicit stereotype attribution of society that we feared from being disabled. Disable people are ignored so badly while making social dealing and relations. We suppose about disabled that they can’t move in society while enjoying charms of life. They can’t accompany us in journey of life so well. Explicit stereotypes are intentional, cognizant, and controllable thoughts. Time was so short that I was not able to activate, and apply my explicit thinking. During test I found it easiest to associate bad with disabled persons and good with able persons with compared to the reverse. Being disabled is obviously unwanted and unacceptable in most of the dealing of life. One fears from disability. This is my implicit response towards disables. While ethics and moral lessons teach me to respect, help and value them. When disables are discussed I show respect towards them but there were predefined concepts in my mind about them ,which I have shown during test. On the basis of that predefined concepts and thinking, I am strongly inclined towards able people. I would never found it easy to choose someone disable a life partner for my future. Because social behaviour taught me disable can’t compete and enjoy life. This traditional mindset is hidden somewhere in my mind which I was not able to hide during this test. The word disable gives feeling of grief, discomfort and unbalanced life. Disabled people are treated like burden on life. In some cases especially like these, we adopt dual-attitudes. We show artful behaviour by saying something and doing totally opposite to that. It is somewhere fixed in mind being disable person is a curse. Life must be full of sorrows and pain for him. He or she must be worried or stressed. Although one can feel sympathy for disables, but we think thousands of times while making our relations or dealing with them. How might learning about one's implicit attitudes might change one's social judgments? Implicit attitudes are result of past experiences, activated by the environment, and operate outside of the domain of intentional and controllable cognition. For example, we can unconsciously stereotype all snakes are dangerous. This stereotype may be associated with one event that we may have proved them dangerous in the past. These negative judgment, feelings, or actions towards snakes arise due to past experiences and predefined concepts. Some people hold snakes by rejecting this stereotype explicitly. So pre judgments hurdles ones ways from experimenting himself, by creating some sort of phobia or negative image. In some case these pre judgments are positive. When we expose ourselves to that situation we automatically act, the ways we told by society. These attitudes are traces of past experience that mediate positive or negative feelings towards anything or situation. One interprets events in line with unconscious biases. Things changes with time. May be there will a time we would be using kind of electricity that will be danger free. At times it will be silly to say stay away from electricity. But our past experience would change our social judgement .We would fear from electricity because once it was dangerous. By knowing about cast, nationality, ethnicity, regions, race etc and past experience one can judge others attitude towards a particular scenario. Example if One have been deceived by my boy friend, he or she will remain conscious in coming relations and decisions of life.
