He relates this moment to the Bible in the book of Job, with the words “Then I said unto God, Depart from me, for I desire not the knowledge of Thy ways. He discovered that God was with him all along that time when he escaped death in the sea where he was about to drown, and another incident where he fell out of a boat into the river. Such incidences proved to him that indeed God was being merciful to him. However he continued doing acts of sin until he got married to a woman whose dad had been a very godly man.

He would read spiritual books with his wife, which made him more interested in religion. In relation to the story of the Israelites in the Bible, Buyan found within him the desire to find out if he was an Israelite, an identity which he felt required its’ souls to be happy. He later found out that he wasn’t an Israelite. Buyan states that he believed temptation and sin to be more attracted to the poor and the weak, relating this to the Bible in the book of Jeremiah, which says, “For they have loved sins, therefore after them they will go”.

He later started reading the Bible, from the scriptures of Paul, and the commandments, being keen on the ones he strived to keep. He believed in the scripture as he continued reading and when he was restless, Buyan was put into tears by the words in the book of Isaiah, “the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked”. Buyan was faced with numerous temptations, but he discovered the power of the scripture and he would find help from two scriptures.

“Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive, and let thy widows trust in me”, and the scripture “ The Lord said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant, verily, I will cause the Enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil, amid in the time of affliction’,
