Modest Proposal: A Commentary Introduction Jonathan Swift, who is known for his Gulliver’s travel, wrote the Modest Proposal as a satiric essay. Thehumor of the satiric essay reflected Swift’s exotic cognitive scheme in relation to how the social problem in Ireland should be solved. The humor ranted the unfairness of Ireland’s economic and political system because many children suffered from poverty. Presumably, the humor in the essay astounded the minds of the ill-minded leaders and wealthy people in Ireland because it did not only surprise them, but it insulted them to stand with dudgeon hearts.

The Surprise Ending and Its Highlights Cannibalism to children is the surprise ending of the story, which is proposed by Swift. The proposal of the writer is poignant to describe the livelihood status of the past in the seventeenth century. However, Swift’s aphorism of Cannibalism truly shocks my mind with slight topsy-turvyness because I could feel the confusion of how such proposal could solve Ireland’s economic crisis. The point in which the reading ended differently from the beginning is when Swift enumerated the advantages of Cannibalism.

The advantages proved the paradox of my expectation to the solution of Ireland’s social problems. Swift’s proposal highlighted an advantage of how delicious it is to cook and eat the flesh of children below twelve years old (Swift, 1729). Moreover, Swift beleaguered my attention to how he emphasized some positive impacts of cannibalism to families such as when husbands and wives could have more time to be intimate to each other. Evaluation The author is so creative to persuade me with his surprise ending.

Swift’s flow of ending is humorous, harsh and scary, but it inclined my mind to be intellectually challenged of what he is really trying to mean with his proposal. The ending of the essay is controversial and intriguing because his idea of Cannibalism to children made me imagine the disparaging lives of the ancient people in Ireland who sacrificed in overpopulation and economic poverty. Swift has convinced me with his idea because Cannibalism could be the means to decrease the number of poor children who were greatly suffering from hunger.

The logic of his proposal was so unique to let the gentlemen in his time realized that overpopulation was insoluble because the government by then does not know how to handle the worthiness of the mundane people (Moore, 2010). I am totally convinced with his clear assumption because what he proposes is not about the action of what cannibalism is, but Swift mainly adheres Cannibalism as a hyperbole to the population’s augmentation due to improper breeding. Hence, the writer is successful to influence me to eat his flesh of idealism as he portrayed his concern to the devastating economic problem of his land.

Conclusion The cannibalism proposal of Jonathan Swift is so crucial, yet it revealed the unjustifiable ruling hands of Ireland. Cannibalism scraped the minds of people to be aware of a growing veracious societal problem. Notwithstanding on how impossible and humorous cannibalism as a solution to the overpopulation of Ireland, Swift’s idea swaddled the truth that the problem was so hard to impede.
