Passers by, pass some lewd comments, while still others are somewhat disgusted by their gross display of love. Some others are highly amused while some of them are absolutely touched by this public show of love. To the author 'A Sunday kind of love' seems to be an apt title that he uses from a song, because he believes that the other days of the week are set aside for work, shopping or running on errands. In New York City, there are any number of errands that could be run- such as seeing the dentist, or hairdresser or going to the cleaners.

The author argued that each individual had their own beautiful Sunday kind of love. It does not have to be that one was really in love with a person, but it is just that something, which really stirs our passions like nothing else ever will. The wonderful example he uses here is the lovely sunlight streaming in through the kitchen as Anne made coffee. The smell of the coffee boiling and Anne walking about in her bathrobe with the sunlight streaming through the kitchen and its beams touching her hair really turned him on.

The author argues that it is the atmosphere that creates the magic. While going to buy the Sunday paper on 14th street, suddenly the place seems so clean and spacious without the teeming millions who crowd the street making it look so small, dirty and drab. Everything looked fresh and clean and even the people around looked a lot better. At such a time, one is able to really appreciate the beauty and peacefulness of the place as it created a perfect cocoon of love. The author narrates how when Anne and George return after their walk for the Sunday paper, they would come back to their apartment and pour over the days happenings on the floor and it is at such moments that they feel psychedelic, that even the simplest of objects take on the most beautiful radiance.

Every small object or act becomes so beautiful and takes on a whole new presence. George calls such a state or condition, a cocoon of love which happens only on a Sunday and once again when it becomes Monday again in New York, it vanishes once againIn 'Tales on the Street' that was published in the New Yorker on September, 1996, the author highlights the life on the streets of New York. The New York he speaks of, is one that is filled with loneliness and shame. The weight of ones circumstances hangs heavily like a miles- stone around ones neck.

The author takes his readers on a tour of these streets while giving a running commentary as it were on all the happenings that take place around him. He speaks of the people rushing past him, while vehicles of every kind honk and screech around him as he pushes through the milling crowds, laughing and reflecting over their conversations. Hawkers are oblivious to the rush as they busy themselves selling their wares of food, jewelry and clothing. But yet, through all this chaos and confusion, he argues that there is a certain warmth as he feels enfolded in the city's embrace.

More than the company of any lover, friend or relative, he yearns to be jostled in the crowd as he roams the streets of Manhattan and gets a feel of the touch of strangers and grinning at everyone while watching their reaction. He treasures these experiences as he stands witness to the stares of children, the smiles of men and the laughter of gay abandon from the women. According to him, nothing heals his sore and angry heart more than a casual walk through the
