Motivation for Creating a Monster in Mary Shelleys Frankenstein - Essay Example

The strange and unfamiliar aspects of the book include the fact that the monster is not so evil it is Victor that created it that is strange and unfamiliar. However, all of the experiences of the monster are strange and unfamiliar both to the reader and to the monster. The creature turns into a monster when Frankenstein discards and rejects him. What are strange and unfamiliar to the monster are the experience of living and the frustration of trying to learn and gain knowledge. The monstrous experience for the actual creature is the angst and frustration it endures while searching for his father.

The novel maintains the strange, unfamiliar and monstrous elements throughout because the story Frankenstein begins with the letters of Captain Robert Walton to his sister. These letters form the framework for the story in which Walton tells his sister the story of Frankenstein and his monster as Frankenstein told it to him. The strange accounts of this novel are consistent in all of the characters experiences. For example, Walton set out to explore the North Pole. The ship got trapped in frozen water and the crew, watching around them, saw a monstrous man in the distance on a dogsled.
