Brown, President: ABC Corporation From Manager: ABC Corporation Re : Selection of Art Works Date : May 31, 2013 In line with the task of managing the organization’s art budget, I have selected three art works from the 19th century Impressionist era and three Post-Impressionist works to be mounted in strategic locations in our new corporate offices. We would be purchasing replicas of these art works to efficiently fit the organization’s art budget.

These art works became popular due to the artists’ rendition and personal expression of life as seen in everyday scenes. Likewise, impressionism emphasizes “a style in which the artist captures the image of an object as someone would see it if they just caught a glimpse of it” (Khan, Allen, & Conte, n.d., p. 1). Under the 19th century Impressionism era, the following art works are selected: Camille Pissarro’s Hay Harvest at Eragny, 1901 Edgar Degas’ Stage Rehearsal, 1878–1879 Gustave Caillebotte’s "Les raboteurs (The floor scrapers)", 1876 Under the Post-Impressionist era, which was characterized as focusing more on “recording light and color phenomena, Post-Impressionism is characterized by bright color, sharp, often outlined edges” (Grisham, n.d., par. 1). As such, the following art works were selected as a perfect representation of the Post-Impressionist time frame: Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, 1889 Vincent van Gogh’s View of Arles-Orchard in Bloom with Poplars, 1890 Charles Warren Eaton’s Bruges (Brugge, Belgium), Unknown Date The brief description of these six works of art, as well as the recommended places in the corporate offices are summarized below: Art Works Title Brief Description/Historical Significance Recommended Places Camille Pissarro’s Hay Harvest at Eragny, 1901 Images of 5 women working during hay harvest with landscapes at the background; historically significant due to the importance relegated to harvesting which was deemed a social event commemorating productiveness Lobby Area where customers could view the art work Edgar Degas’ Stage Rehearsal, 1878–1879 Images of 7 ballet dancers practicing on stage with one male in the center (possibly the conductor) and two other male spectators.

Significance in terms of emphasis to practice to perfect one’s craft or endeavor. An important piece that provides inspiration and appreciation of beauty in landscape. Receiving room for customers’ who are inquiring or other guests Charles Warren Eaton’s Bruges (Brugge, Belgium), Unknown Date A landscape of the city of Bruges in Belguim where the famous panoramic view of the canal, a partial view of the bridge and some architectural structures could be appreciated.

Bright colors of red bricks, green trees, and the reflection of these images on the water is realistically depicted. The historical significance of the city’s adherence to environmental protection and appreciation of beauty in local scenery. Personnel’s most busy area within the Human Resources Department entrance Each of the selected art pieces fit the overall company image since the mission statement of the company focuses on professionalism, dedication and commitment to work, as well as in appreciating the fruits of one’s labor.

Through each art work, all stakeholders (directors, managers, employees, and even customers, suppliers, investors, and visitors) get to appreciate that the organization means business through adherence to professionalism and commitment in our respective responsibilities. As such, viewers who see the art works in strategic corporate places could interpret them as representation of commitment to work; as well as dedication to one’s areas of endeavor. The first three works of art all represent images of people working (harvesting, dance rehearsing, and floor scraping).

The next three art works shows reflective pieces that provide viewers with opportunities for personal reflection and temporary respite amidst the busy work schedule. The aesthetic values of each art work are therefore imbibed within the organization’s image of professionalism and value for work ethics; as well as appreciation for beauty and acknowledging that there is life beyond the corporate setting.
