Language is general to all people. It connects us all together by its nature; however, exercise of language is a key factor in characterizing us as individuals (Chantler and Higgins 14). Language, therefore, embraces immense influence and power in us. I desire to study 19th century American novel, particularly by Nathaniel Hawthorne. My career objective is to become a tutor at the university level and carry out research connecting literature and culture. In my studies toward Masters Degree, I anticipate studying more closely on the projects done by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

In the current society, I strongly believe English literature is a helpful tool in obtaining skills and, therefore, I would like to take my respect of the subject to the higher level (Griffith 12). Hawthorne turned out to be one of the most influential writers of his period, diverging from the formalism and investigating the thoughts of individual responsibility, the significance of innovative expression and human being’s connection to the ordinary world. He as well looks into the strange and disturbing issues. . The works of Hawthorne reveal his dark visualization of human scenery, as he regularly describes Puritanism as an expression of humankind’s prospective for cruelty, passion and prejudice.

His extraordinary, recurring tales of guilt, separation and bereavement betray his appeal with the morbid even as they examine the deepness of a human being psychology and ethical responsibility (Bloom 10). With Edgar Allan Poe, Hawthorne was influential in the development of American Gothic literature, diverging from sensationalism to concentrating on the artistic and touching reaction to horror and analyzing the mental procedures of his characters (Jones 35). His extremely symbolic works use Gothic principles to investigate questions regarding the actions of human and their effects and the outcome of sin on the human being consciousness.

Gothic aspects are observed in most of his significant works, starting with the short story Young Goodman Brown (1835) to The Scarlet Letter to his final completed novel, The Marble Faun (1860). The entire work is vastly figurative, demanding moral desires that are unnerving in their dark evaluation of the human personality. The Scarlet Letter was a significant and well-liked achievement. The illegal love issue involving Hester Prynne and Reverend Arhur Dimmesdale about the delivery of their baby, Pearl, happen prior to the opening of the book.

In Puritan New England, the mother of an illegal baby puts on the scarlet A (signifying adulteress, as initialized in this novel) for ages rather than disclose that her lover was
