Although both Mansfield Park and Twilight include the elements of love and relationships but the approach towards these elements make them different from each other. In Mansfield Park, the author has shown the relationships as they exist in real life whereas in Twilight, the element of love exists between a vampire and a human, which is very uncommon in real life. On the other hand, the author of Mansfield Park portrays true relationships, which have their roots in every society. Twilight focuses the sexual frustration of a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire.
The reason was not the character of the vampire. The main reason was the unrealistic characteristics, which the vampire had. Although critics describe the novel as an impracticable romance between a girl and a vampire but it has become one of the best selling children novels. On the other hand, Mansfield Park focuses real feelings and tensions of love that may exist between different relationships. Mansfield Park has been somewhat a confounding novel written by Jane Austin. The complex personality of Fanny, who was the main character of the novel, is one of the negative aspects of the novel.
In Twilight, everything is clear and the attention of the readers does not deviate from the story. Some critics do not like the way the element of love is presented in Twilight. They consider it far from reality. Some critics say that the relationship between Edward and Bella seems like the relationship between a daughter and a father. Inclusion of more than one vampire in the story is also one of the negative and unrealistic aspects of the novel for some critics. However, the criticism against the story is not able to overshadow the positive remarks, which the novel has been receiving from the readers for the last six years.
According to Meyer (2005), twilight is a perfect blend of horror and romance. On the other hand, Mansfield Park is purely a social genre, which focuses on different relationships and common feelings of love and repulsion. Twilight highlights vampires in a positive manner, which has never been shown in the past by any author. The teenage vampire love story provides something new for the readers as compared to Mansfield Park, which is a relationship-based social novel. Conclusion Although the theme of both novels is based on love and sexual frustration but both novels are very much different in their styles and approach.
After analyzing both novels, Twilight is found to be more interesting, innovative, and fascinating novel as compared to Mansfield Park. Mansfield Park provides somewhat less entertainment to the readers as compared to Twilight, which has a different and fast-paced story based on horror, suspense, and romance.
