In this research involving both empirical and theoretical studies, Jyothi has attempts to examine issues of occupations, paid employment and justice in relation to employment of people with disabilities. The author ascertains that employment plays a major role in ensuring that individuals feel accepted in the society and in creating a sense of inclusion or identity. Using the case study of an employee that is disabled, the author is able to illustrate real experiences of an individual that is disabled and change of attitude and social position. The author stipulates the opinion of work acquisition and retention for the disabled. Jyothi states that people with disability encounter barriers when it comes to getting employed and those that are employed also find it challenging to maintain this employment (Jyothi 2). The research is limited to a case study of a specific individual and the author puts emphasis on the aspect of social expectations and experiences of disabled people at their place of work. The author’s approach/methodology was appropriate based on the topic of case study. Research approach was qualitative and was fashioned to address main research concern which is experiences of people with disabilities at work environments. It was a portion of wider research carried out qualitatively. Field work research was conducted in the case of the wider research using questionnaires that were open ended. Since participant was illustrating her experiences, open ended questions for the research were appropriate. The methodology elucidated a deeper understanding of causes of these unfair treatments and experiences. This information was provided in statements of participant’s history, relationships and experiences in relation to work. Evidence of critical analysis of Jyothi’s ‘An issue of occupational injustice’ is indicated in relating the article to topic of discussion. First the main aspect of discussion is employment laws which are concerned with employment of people with disability. The author illustrates some of these laws of the United States of America including Americans with disabilities Act of 1990 and 2009. Although laws have been implemented and some amended, there is still a gap to be filled in terms of catering for people with disabilities at work place and making them feel accepted in occupation world. Jyothi’s work is intended to change perceptions and attitudes of employers towards laws protecting persons with disabilities and the individuals with disability (Jyothi 4). This article is relevant to the topic of discussion related to unfair treatment of people with disabilities by law in the area of employment. The case study addresses occupational aspect of people with disability. In the course of the research, the author has illustrated federal laws in the United States of America. The topic of discussion is primarily on how these laws mistreat people with disabilities. The research sourced primary data from a lady who is disabled and in employment to narrate these experiences and aspect of social expectations. Relevance in the article is also indicated in its applicability in illustrating occupational science and discussing aspect of therapy in people’s occupations. Using a sample of twenty one (21) organizations and conducting one hundred and five (105) interviews, the authors attempt to investigate perceptions and attitudes of South African workers towards the employment equity Act of 1998 while also illustrating their experiences at work. Oosthuizen and Naidoo consider a major change in South Africa’s employment sector as a result of this Act (Oosthuizen and Naidoo 4). They also acknowledge that not every other person is contended with the Act. The research addresses general aspects of inequality and discrimination at work places in lines of people’s disabilities, race and social status. They argue that a working environment with discrimination will not also be suitable for people with disability since there is a high chance that they will also be discriminated against. The author’s approach/methodology is single sided. The research adopts qualitative study all through the study process by incorporating surveys and interviews on field work. Explanatory approach to qualitative research made a full provision of issues affecting people in social and work contexts (Oosthuizen and Naidoo 5). Sourcing primary information from participants was appropriate so as to provide a clear understanding from the affected parties. Since the research concerned people’s experiences, it was appropriate for the researchers to have contact with participants so as to examine their expressions as they respondent to research question. This approach enables researchers to judge the attitudes too. Evidence of critical analysis in this discussion is indicated by deeper understanding of the article and linking it to topic of discussion. First is the aspect of legislation which is clearly illustrated in the text. Adequate collection and analysis of data and presentation of study results meet the purpose of research objectives. Telephone interviews catered for willing participants who were far but could take oral communication while email responses were convenient for participants who needed time to answer questions. The method was therefore appropriate to meet the purpose of research and also ensure that all participants’ interests were catered for. Other than empirical study, the research has provided an analysis of previous literature on research carried out by other researchers. Discussion illustrates understanding of research material and provides a step by step analysis in terms of subtopics that fully explore research topic. Empirical research and literature review can act as a measure of validity of research results. The research is quite relevant to topic of discussion in all aspects. The second part of discussion topic touches on employment area for people with disability. NDA research is specific on people with disability, their disabilities and communication to employers. The author puts a special emphasis on monitoring systems in public sector organizations and how these influence the employees’ abilities and channels of communication to their employer regarding their disability. Public sector companies are owned by government which is the main stakeholder is drafting, approval and implementation of legislation.
