Why Marijuana Should Be Legalized Legalization of marijuana is a of great significance in recent years in the USA. Marijuana is a type of medicine which is used in several nations from ancient periods. From the viewpoint of proscription, marijuana is illegal in the USA because it is used as drug, and has been traditionally associated with harmful narcotics. Marijuana is also not acknowledged in several regions of the USA as a medical component, rather it is linked with unfashionable life. Unlike other toxic materials such as alcohol or cigarette, marijuana is not legal, which is the basis of disagreement for legal supporters.

There are several arguments on this aspect as to why the use of marijuana should be legal in the USA. Three major issues are useful for supporting the legalization of marijuana (McVay, 1991). Health Presently, marijuana is considered as unlawful element at national level and is registered in the U.S. “Controlled Substances Act”, but marijuana can be effectively used for health benefits. Several surgeons and medical investigation specialists conveyed that marijuana can be used as remedies for certain health related problems.

Marijuana can rouse hunger and is useful for biliousness. Besides, marijuana is also useful for cure of glaucoma. By any extent of rational investigation, marijuana can carefully be used under an administered routine of medical care (Morgan, 2010). Crime Legalizing marijuana can also decrease the offense linked with drug business. The main reason is that unlike other drug markets, the market of marijuana produces comparatively lesser number of criminal offences. In comparison with other drug affected criminals, the marijuana affected criminals represent offensive activities below 10% for infringement of drug law.

If marijuana is utilized as a drug, then legalization of it might decrease the crime related with alcohol. Besides, through marijuana legalization, there is a possibility that police officers will be able to focus more on the other crimes such as thefts, muggings, annoyance, sexual offences, local violence, child misuse and drunk driving among others. As a result, it can reduce the crimes in other aspects of society (Tonry, 2011). Tax The major advantage, the USA can gain through legalizing marijuana is that of tax advantage.

If government imposes tax on marijuana, the revenue from producers and marketers of the marijuana products will be moved to the government fund, and therefore government can gain revenue from consumption of it. The funds of government can also be increased though imposing tax on sales, income or providing license to the marijuana traders and dealers. Legalization of marijuana not only will bring extra income to the government but will also help to keep a close track of the performance of marijuana agents, and any attempt to escape tax can lead to being discarded from business (Caputo & Ostrom, 2006).

Conclusion From the legal viewpoint, it is still unclear about the impact of legalization of marijuana. Though the constitution of the USA concentrates on providing care towards health of the nation and ensuring the safety of citizens, the constitution also states for liberty of people to choose the right thing for themselves. It is assumed that the issue of legalization of marijuana is a significant matter of debate (Joffe & Yancy, 2004). Many people consider that legalization of marijuana can result in negative impact on society, while others believe that marijuana helps in several issues related to medicine, criminal and health.

Therefore, even if marijuana becomes legalized, there should be adequate measures to control over-use of this drug. References Caputo, M. R., & Ostrom, B. J. (2006).
