Societies can be distinguished from groups of animal by referencing to social rules. Humanity’s behavior can be controlled by direct or indirect moral standards, religious doctrines, social traditions and legal rules. Law and rules govern all kinds of societies and thus set regulations form the basis of societies to perform accordingly. Twining and Miers define a rule as a ‘general norm mandating or guiding conduct or action in a given type of situation. A rule prescribes what activity may, should or should not be carried out, or refers to activities that should be carried out in a specified way. Robert Summers stated five techniques of law- the use of law to remedy grievances among members of a society, the use of law as a penal instrument, with which to prohibit and prosecute forbidden behavior, third as an instrument with which to promote certain defined activities, the use of law for managing various governmental public benefits and the fifth the use of law to give effect to certain private arrangements between members of a society. Thus one can state that law encompasses our lives. Law establishes the framework which entails the functioning of a successful society. For a moment if there was to be the absence of law or the absence of a legal system, unimaginable injustices would then befall on the members of a society who would fall prey to human feelings and temptation. Law shapes ones life in various ways. Employment with protection, compensations against infringes in associations with others can all be protected by law. Of course lawyers and political leaders must jointly utilize law towards the benefits of humanity and thus law should relevantly enforce to cater to the needs of the society. Law students would be faced with various challenges that would entail deep thinking and actions that would act upon ones conscience, questions that would enhance the fundamental importance of the world. The main aspect is to keep the law relevant to the need of the ever changing society. To me law means more than just criminal cases. Every individual in every day life encounters law and this law can be foreseen as good law or bad law and interpreted accordingly in good ways and bad ways. Law leads to questioning of morality and the examination of self respect and ethics. Studies in law are self stimulating, intellectually demanding which demands energetic participation. I am highly motivated and self disciplined to proceed in my future academics in law. My strengths focus on advanced communications skills, problem solving abilities combined with the capacity to think independently which has shaped my outlook in life and enabled my thinking in my very existence. Law is interesting for it involves sorting through variations and strategies to produce the best result for one’s client. I am an undergraduate in Politic modules wherein Political philosophers such as Montesquieu and Locke Hobbes who dealt with separation of power, balance and checks which were relevant to constitutional law were literally helpful to the individuality in me. While in France I completed de Politique d` Aix en Provence combined with other law courses. I found French Constitutional Law and International enjoyable and it aroused my curiosity and desire to further study law. The very first time I was faced with Law instigated me to become a Solicitor. Thus such inspirations lead me in choosing law as my objective and career. Corporate law and Business studies further encouraged my interests and yearn for studying law. Under graduation in Politics augmented my knowledge of theoretical and methodological information in politics. Further high quality skills were utilized in synthesizing the acquired data. In order to reach a high level of academics, my knowledge and skill needed progression for the relevant professional studies. Under graduation in Politics provided a sound perspective in various political systems, ideologies and policies. I am aware that a student of politics and law should always be well informed and capable of learning and establishing the grips. Combined with this knowledge an individual should be able to make sense of complex ideas and issues in various areas of politics and by utilizing the acquired skills the same should be adopted in my career in law. My studies in Politics catered to essay writing, presentation; researching and analytical thinking which increased my proficiency and knowledge. This provided the base for a strong foundation in my pursuit in law studies. Major emphasis was on critical thinking and expository writing. Areas such as traditional education in philosophy and concentration in social, political, ethical and legal philosophy further equipped my knowledge during my studies in Politics. The bottom line is I like making a difference in various spheres and I feel law is the way to make it happen. My strengths as a student in terms of writing, reading, critical thinking in verbal terms, everything has shaped the self within me on how and where I exist. Law is prestigious and well respected professions which pays head and assist the common man in the fight against injustices. I feel in order to learn law one has to adapt and adopt laws such as discipline, ethics, righteousness, honesty with oneself and humanitarian in ones life. Becoming a lawyer in not only esteemed but the basic quality one should always remember is to be humanistic in all approaches and whatever be the circumstances the truth will always prevail. For me law is a system of rules that shape politics, economics and society in many ways. I am aware that through discussions on various areas of law my mature commitment in law will be demonstrated. A concrete demonstration and exposure to law combined with a distinct filed of law will assist me in my pursuit and specialization in law. My summarization of lawyers is that they can function in the business world whereas M.B.A’s cannot perform when placed in a legal situation. A law degree would furnish an unparalleled mobility in my career. Further a law degree will enable me to be effective and influential in various fields which I am empowered to work in. Law involves thinking, writing, solving problems, sorting through all the variations to produce the best result for a client, negotiating, compromises and advocating on behalf of people and their causes which arouses my ambition to study law. Law develops abilities and teaches precision of thought, analytical skill, and accuracy of expression and would enable me to further understand the structure of our society. Law engages examination of cases wherein legal matters and perspectives which would be combined with historical, philosophical and sociological aspects will thus provide an opportunity for me to perform and excel. I want to excel in academic discipline and equip myself with the knowledge of general legal principles and legal techniques that are vital introductions to law. During the process in law studies tests and court room skills will develop and expand my horizon. Law studies include basic numerics which will enable me to gain insight into specializes of human resources, operations and finance. Philosophy of law when studied in relation to fundamental social issues becomes fascinating and stimulating and an individual’s intuition and opinions becomes vital. Every section of Philosophy of law is classified around a controversial issue which leads to the answering of important questions thereby enabling the thinking process to occur to result in a good answer. And such answers lead to more questions and this pattern invokes thought, encouragement, pursuit and development of idea, values, belief, confidence and the need to defend those beliefs. The basic idea is not to get frustrated, instead to defend those beliefs and to enjoy and learn the art of law which I am capable of handling. No doubt many people’s attitude towards law and lawyers portray their cynicism. Philosophy of law demands and teaches an individual to trust his own sense of judgment simultaneously alleviating the self skepticism. The result of every case may not, at times, turn out as expected. Therefore hope and fight for justice should always be the goal. Failure on the other hand should be looked upon as a stepping stone to success and not as a total failure in life. And I believe that I am equipped to face all scenarios of life. Failure in a case or when a court decision has gone against ones own sense of belief and thought, the ability to utilize the law as building blocks for a counter argument and methods should be utilized in order to enable the case to be argues from other perspective’s. Thus alertness and cleverness which I posses should be adopted in law. Law for me seeks to establish and discover ways to be established wherein every individual in a society is able to live as members in the same locality. Laws and systems which are promulgated can work and function effectively if methods that are adopted are reliable and fair. Socrates explained that justice and fairness are based on moral judgment and the law states that justice and fairness is based on law. For me fairness is an essential part of the law and therefore laws that are passed must be fair and the decisions rendered in court must be just. My interests and hobbies lie in traveling and reading extensively. I had spent my gap year in Kajebi (Voltaire Region in Ghana) which finds my mother teaching at a primary school. My mother teaches between the ages four and six. Having complete my under graduation in Politics I asked myself why do I want to study law? An examination of myself enabled me to decide that law is what I wanted and needed. Research into the work’s and lifestyles of different types of lawyers assisted me in my decision to study law. I am aware that many students enter law school without any notion of what law or lawyers do and thus during the process of studying law such students become disappointed and bored. Such students are unable to face the exhaustive examination of court decisions which are taught in order to prepare students to think and writer like lawyers. Students with this framework find it difficult to prepare for long hours of study and are petrified of speaking before the audience. That’s why I researched about studies in law and am more than capable to handling various situations for I believe that the more information one accesses about law, the study and law practice the more effective I would be in utilizing my time in law school. Further I asked myself, am I willing to work long hours reading and writing legal issues and found that I am more than competitive and intuitive to effectively study law and handle the difficult situations. I know law will enable my thinking to go beyond boundaries, beyond problems and to seek suitable solutions. I would find ways to make these solutions happen and change something for the betterment of all. A law degree will further equip me not only to be an accomplished lawyer but also an accomplished businessman, diplomat, social activist and an academician. A career in law for me means a commitment to a peaceful judgment of disputes. Disagreements will forever occur and cannot eradicate from our social, religious, political and economic environment. Presently society is becoming more diverse and complex and the settings are ever changing for law and its practice. Thus keeping abreast with the changing times and constantly updating oneself about the changes and consequences and finding solutions is an on going task which I am well versed with. For me the amazing fact about law is that it is multitalented that is unlocks doors and supports many other career choices. A lot can be stated about law but for me studying law, seeking guidance in potential areas, punctuality and willingness to undertake and complete all legal tasks, promoting and establishing good relationship with my peers thus enhancing team work and always setting work quotas and meeting the required schedules are essential qualities which I possess not only presently but qualities which I will endure during my course and will thus remain focused.
