Management communication University Student Id Course Date B1: The video I viewed was of Glenn Beck that was aimed at informing the audience. In Glenn Beck, the style of speaking while making use of examples that are necessary for supporting the arguments. The commentator’s point of view is to make sure that the audience is informed. The style the commentator employs made sure that the audience is convinced where the speech is informational. The primary agenda of the commentator was to ensure that the audience became aware the benefits using the product. The speech of the commentator was not only designed to inform the audience but also to make sure that the audience can understand the information communicated. B2: An informative speech is primarily aimed at informing the targeted audience concerning a particular agenda. A persuasive speech is geared towards persuading the targeted audience with the aim to perform an appropriate action. Besides, persuasive speech is normally geared towards convincing the audience to accept an opinion or belief of the speaker (Brooks, 2015). For instance, the informative speech is mainly used the moment the speaker is looking for ways of passing certain information to the audience. It is usually educative in nature as it is geared towards making the audience understand the message concerning a particular issue or object. For example, the speaker can make use of persuasive speech to convince the audience to buy a certain product but another. B3: CSI and Bones are television programs that have some similarities and differences. Both television programs are primarily focused on analyzing the collected evidence. Besides, they are based mainly on the solution of crimes involving forensic investigations. The two television programs are detailed concerning profiling the perpetrator and autopsies. The shows of the two television programs are mainly constructed around a particular forensic laboratory where the scientists and officers work towards solving crimes during the episode. However, there are some differences like in the case of Bones the researchers are not personally engaged with the victims. On the other hand, the CSI ensures that the characters engage with the victims. B4: The informative speech that I viewed involved marketing of the products. The part of the speech that I considered effective is the convincing aspect of the speaker where the speaker was much focused on making the audience willing to purchase the products. The presentation was mainly touching on the benefits that accrue to the customers the moment they buy the company products. The speaker managed to convince the targeted audience that the products were the best for meeting the consumer needs. The aspect of the presentation that I would improve include making the audience aware of how the company is concerned about the welfare of the consumer better than the rivals. B5: Nike shoes are the products in the informative speech. The points that I can address an informative speech of two minutes include: 1. The benefits of using the products of the company that the customers cannot find from the other companies in the industry because it influences the buying behavior. 2. The uniqueness of the products in the industry that include the features that make the products different from those of the rivals as it communicates the competitiveness of the products. 3. The need for making use of the Nike shoes especially in the sports where the suitability of the products in the industry because it helps customers in making buying decision. 4. The pricing of the products as it determines the buying decision. 5. The factors considered in designing the products as they communicate the suitability. B6: The change I would like to take place involves the improvement of the use of technology in communication where the wireless internet can be improved. The persuasion includes the way the availability of wireless internet can be crucial in the process of making sure that communication among people is improved. Besides, the increase in the social network that can result from establishing a wireless network for communication. The motivation behind the change includes the aim to decrease the costs of communication. The expenses incurred by people in communicating can be reduced as they can be in a position to use the wireless internet freely to share information using the social media platforms. B7: I think that the principle of consensus works as people can come into common agreements concerning certain issues. People can be easily persuaded to purchase things simply because there are other people who have the same items (Feinberg and Batson, 2005). As a result, the people possessing some items can affect their friends to buy same items as they want to be alike. However, I am not susceptible to this persuasion as I only buy the items that I need but not because I can see the same products with my friends. B8: The service that I believe I would never buy is massage. Personally, I do not consider massage to be among the services that I can realize any benefits based on my morals. I consider massage to be against my principles and morals where I cannot expose some body parts. However, in many cases, some people might try to argue that massage might be necessary for health purposes but there are alternatives that can be utilized instead of massage. It uses various principles where to increase persuasive appeal to ensure the aspect of culture is considered. B9: Discontinuance entails the speaker making persuasive message aimed at making the audience stop something like smoking. Deterrence involves a call that is focused on persuading the targeted audience to stop something. I think discontinuance is more difficult than deterrence because stopping something someone is used can be challenging. For instance, it can be challenging to convince an individual to stop smoking as they are used where they develop a habit that cannot easily stop. B10: I have attained various levels of needs in the Maslow hierarchy of needs where I am currently at the level of self-actualization. I have managed to move from one level of need to the other as my income has been increasing. Some three years ago I was at security level but as my income has increased I have kept moving up the hierarchy of needs. My position in the hierarchy has been changing where in the future I expect to achieve the self-actualization need. B11: Persuasion is considered unethical as the primary aim of the speaker is to convince the audience to purchase the products. As a result, the persuasion might be unethical as the speaker is mainly focused on making the audience willing to purchase the products. In most cases, persuasion has an objective that is based on personal gains without considering the welfare of others hence making it unethical. Besides, many persuasions might not be considered ethical as they are not honest but primarily aimed at achieving the set objective. B12: Elevator speech My name is Jennings, and I have been a risk researcher for the last five years. My research expertise is exemplary in the industry as I have gained experience in different firms. I have worked with a consulting firm where I was responsible for conducting research concerning different phenomenon. The research was primarily on risk management where I was very curious to know how the senior managers perceive different risks in the organization. My job involved making sure that the potential risks in the market are identified, and the necessary strategies for managing situation suggested. B13: The elevator speech was geared towards informing the audience. The speech can be considered effective as it managed to communicate the intended message. Some of the strengths of the elevated speech include making sure that the audience can be persuaded to accept the communicated message. Besides, the speaker can be in a better position to direct the intended message to the necessary audience. The speaker can easily identify the areas that need to be addressed in the process of making sure the information is directed to the right audience. The weakness can include the failure to assess the level of persuasion of the targeted audience. Retrieved from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDpe9StfGTA B14: It can limit the understanding of communication to view the non-verbal communication as though it is not verbal communication. Non-verbal communications entail the use of gestures in the process of passing the message to the targeted audience. Considering the non-verbal communication as though it is not able to pass the necessary information just like the verbal communication can limit the understanding of communication. In the process of making sure that non-verbal communication is made effective viewing it as able to pass the intended information juts like the verbal communication is crucial. B15: Time is crucial for my career success. I always ensure that I spend my time in a way that is accountable to avoid time wastage. 1. I spend my time in business where I work towards making sure that I achieve my dreams of being a successful business man. 2. Developing networks with other business people where I take the time to discuss business issues with them to build my expertise. 3. I spend time talking with my family where I ensure I develop a strong bond with the family members. 4. Developing relationships with friends B16: Time in the information age is critical. For example, it is the time that determines the effectiveness of the channel of communication used as it affects the sender and receiver of the communication. Technology that has been changing with time has formed an important part in determining both the efficiency and effectiveness of communication, making time an important aspect in the information age (Yashoda and Puranik, 2016). The sending and receiving of a message are done every minute where the exchange of information has increased rapidly. For example, in the stock market time has been considered important in determining the value of the stock traded. B17: The non-verbal communications entail various types of underlying and explicit assumptions. The explicit assumptions mainly involve the eye and facial expression of the different parts of the body. The attitude can be understood based on the appearance shown. The underlying assumptions in non-verbal communications entail the internal feelings that affect the psychology of an individual. The primary assumption that is underlying is the parallel process approach that is engaged in a cognition and social behavior that is interdependent. For example, the fantasies and expectations that analysis conducted are likely to be destructive. B18: Sample agenda 1. Place of the meeting: 2. The date of the meeting: 3. Scheduled time: 4. People attending the meeting: -marketing manager -sales representatives -departmental heads 5. Materials (market analysis, marketing data and sales) 6. Objectives of the meeting (data of the competitor, competition levels, changes in the market and alternatives available.) 7. Summarizing the meeting objectives (mediating the points raised in the meeting, taking notes and preparing the agenda to be discussed at the next meeting.) B19: Exploring the business environment of the new market is crucial in establishing the various factors that are likely to affect the success of the business. Considering the fact that my company offers coffee in the market that is dominated by other similar businesses it is crucial to make sure that the products offered are competitive. The competitiveness of the products can be realized through making sure that they are in line with the preference of the consumers. It can be important to ensure the necessary market environment is properly studied to establish the best strategies that can be used to achieve competitive advantages. B20: The failure to know the action to take during a crisis can be challenging. Individuals would begin to panic and also get nervous in various situations in which they don’t know what they can do. Also, people would think about this bad condition in which the whole function of the brain gets occupied by a fear feeling. Logically, people would think that this kind of crisis would occur in the presence of both anxiety and fear. However, individuals who find themselves in this kind of situation, they usually make calls to their close friends who they trust most. I would make preparations to face the challenges. B21: Self-disclosure in any business can be very important in a business setting. I think through self-disclosure an organization can be able to develop trust with the stakeholders hence developing the reputation of the company. Besides, it is through self-disclosure that good relationships can be developed between the business stakeholders and the management. For instance, a business can ensure fair representation of the financial information and other materials that are relevant to the stakeholders. Therefore, I think that the businesses that ensure self-disclosure develop a good reputation in public. B22: While considering the perspective of an interviewer, the employment interview facilitates a company to take its responsibility and also help in judging about the attitude of the interviewee. Besides, the employment interview helps in choosing the best individual for a certain position. On the other hand, while considering the perspective of the interviewee, an employment interview makes the interviewee serious in presenting herself or himself to stand out as the best interviewee. Also, it helps in focusing on the attitude of the interviewee. B23: I consider trust to be an important strategy in managing conflict. Facing the conflict face to face can cause a serious fight hence revealing out everything. Therefore, developing trust among the conflicting parties can be important in managing the conflicts. However, being silent and also not conversing to each other is usually taken as cruel. The moment individuals engage themselves in a talk; they usually get relieved psychologically. Besides, they let out other people to understand about their thinking. As a result, thoughts of individuals are made clear rather than guessing about them. B24: I would prefer theory X in managing workers in my organization. Using theory X can be important in helping in the motivation process as some employee might not be willing to work. The managers who make use of theory are likely to make the employees feel encouraged to work hence achieving the set objectives. Employees need to be directed to work as per the expectations of the manager where the directions can be best given using theory X (Baron, Hatfield, and Georgeadis, 2015). Besides, some employees are lazy and need to be supervised to work. B25: I consider the challenging overseas assignment to be changing the people’s way of life. The foreign people have a diverse culture that might be challenging to adopt their way of life to the other. The way of life of people overseas is different and issues are perceived differently as the cultural background is usually distinct from each state. However, the easiest part of the overseas assignment is about the brief summarization of the things. Since it is easier to describe the familiar things and the individuals would listen to what am talking about without many arguments. B26: Yes, it can be possible for a non-group member to assist group move to norming stage from storming stage. Individuals are said to have perspectives which are different and also refresh thinking about issues in groups. For instance, it is said that the people who are not involved in a scenario are more likely to clearly observe the situation, even though within the storming stage (Thill and Bovee, 2002). However, in sometimes when the scenario is quite complicated and takes a long time, people would end up complicating the situation more than it should normally be. B27: Advantages of working individually 1. Fewer possibilities of developing conflicts 2. Avoiding group pressure 3. Is fast way of undertaking activities Disadvantages 1. Everything is done by oneself hence no assistance 2. There is limitation of ideas 3. The best decision cannot be realized due to individualism aspects 4. High amounts of work. Team environment I prefer working as a team because of its many benefits that can include the ability to make the best decision through negotiations. Also, through teamwork, I can be able to learn many things from the other group members. The disadvantage that can be associated with group work is the fact that it is time-consuming. B28: Steve Jobs is the leader that I most admire. I admire his entrepreneurial skills that are rare and that made his business succeed. Sine my childhood, I had dreams of becoming an entrepreneur where I considered Steve Jobs as my role model. He has a lot of skills in analyzing the business environment where he ensured in developing his business the strategies employed were in line with the business environment. As a result, he managed to achieve competitive advantages in the industry. Steve Jobs is a transformational leader as he believed strongly in making sure that the employees are motivated through properly engaging them in the organization issues.
