Communication Theory: Learning Attitude theory of Persuasion: Introduction: Learning is an iterative process that constitutes various set of activities and units which make the overall learning process possible. Persuasion can be part of it which obliges an individual, or a firm into acting to the desired objectives (Larson, 2012). Learning process is a conditional process and it has certain conditions set to it. These conditions enable motivation and natural persuasion. People involved in the persuasion process have a role in changing the attitude of respective individual from negative to positive. Daily life experiences and theory relevance: In our daily life we come across situations that require persuasion, communication, imparting knowledge and learning and other basics of interaction. Communication Behavior: It is the response to the communication and ability of taking what an individual is faced with. It also depends the delivering person how he or she conveys the points and makes the process of communication easy. Organizational environments, domestic environments require effective communication in order to perform the tasks accurately. The scope of persuasion is very broad and it applies to different disciplines of daily life activities. Persuasion is a strong tool that can be used in a learning process, in a managerial environment, individual level (Perloff, 2012). The importance of communication: Work place possibilities: These places could be either official working places, domestic interactive places, interaction between students and their teachers. Experiences at office and public places: Public places and offices require the standardized means of communication, persuasion. Office environments self Experience: Experience at a telecom related industry enabled understanding this concept well and applies aptly to it. The task assigned: The task included reporting over the entire traffic of last fifteen days, this was followed by sites inspection. These two basic functions required professionalism, team work, and cooperation and guidance from the manager. Dealing with the entire team that compromises the top management as well as the lower staff requires persuasion at times, communication at others, and convincing and conveying the message all together. Punctuality, cooperation, tolerance are few of the elements required for good communication and relationship in an organization. Making use of the theory in daily life: Handling communication: Message is the content that is the subject of usage. Once the message is constituted it is being carried forward by the source. While each step of the entire learning process is of high importance, the first two steps, source and the message are the basics to the holding of the process. The message could be in form of any reaction, any interpretation, and feel for the need of conveying a particular point. It could also be based on the purpose of catching some attention subject to the situation at hand. The fairness of the material of communication and message: Message that is being sent can be of different natures, it can be a report against an individual, a report against a situation and condition, in favor of someone, it could be a biased report, it could be a fair report, all in all the overall content of message is very subjective and may contain anything which might be hard to interpret. The order of the content and the overall message is also important. Since the content sequence enables easy understandings, therefore the order is of vital importance for maintaining the synchronization. For example in case of media reporting, the content provided should be thoroughly fair, unbiased and based on facts. In case of work places, the reporting should be done in timely manner, utmost honesty, full devotion and best of abilities. Apart from the bias element, a message may contain single sided information just because it would need to address the issues and concerns of a particular area and individual. It might not be desired to address any other person or situation hence remains lopsided in its details and confidentiality. Mass Media: Mass media is an important part of any society. It carries a message that is of interest to the public and is based on public awareness and education. Communicating the right kind of information to the public is highly important. It has certain pre requisites to it which mainly include the ease of understanding, the code of conduct, ethical norms observation , the in time delivery and reporting and various other factors which are necessary to keep the nation and its public updated. The first most important element of the entire learning process and communication establishment in any place( office, home, university) is the availability of source. Source is the point of creation of demand and entity. It is the point from where the query and the urge originates. It is the first step to the entire process and mechanism. A source could be an individual, a cause, an event, a resource or anything that becomes the reason for the occurrence of the event to take place. Once a demand and need is being felt and subsequently generated, it is forwarded ahead to the next step. Communication: For the purpose of persuasion communication is the basic activity to take place when two or more people are involved. Communication serves as the backbone for any process of learning and interaction. Various measures apply to the rules of communication and their implementation. Timely communication, through reliable means, in a manner and tone that is appropriate to the need are few of the conditions of communication success. The person pursuing a particular agenda can do so only if he or she is good at the communication that is required for that particular task. In this case the learning process persuasion. The persuasion communication should be done in a manner that is most interpretable and effective for the outcome from the process of learning. Types of communication: The persuasion process can take place in different forms. It can take place when two people are face to face. It is termed as face to face communication and persuasion. It can be in direct if the two people involved are not face to face. They might be on other sides of communication end and their means of connect can be multiple. Family / personal handlings: Even the interaction and communication at lowest level and most informal ways involves persuasion, communication, and acceptance of ideas. In short, any time when two or more people are involved, the persuasion and convincing is needed along with good communication which makes the overall task easy and effective. Nature of message in general: The nature of message itself is another area which may be shaped in any manner desired. The main points might be placed within the text, at the top of the text, or the paper and message may contain only the points concerned. Mankind is resistant to change by default (Broyles & Harvey, 2010). Learning is a new experience always and mostly individuals are found resisting learning and they fail to associate to a particular learning curve and process. In such situation the persuasion process comes in handy and helps making the learning process easy and manageable. The best objectives can be achieved if the learning process is made incremental, without major obstacles and hurdles and is coated with the incentive mechanism. IN such cases the overall learning process is not a challenge rather a enduring activity where individuals take pleasure performing it and completing the tasks that are being assigned in form of learning. Since responding to returns and reward is the nature of mankind. The element of persuasion is of great value and it can motivate and move an individual’s mind and action to a specific course. Conflict with the Drive Theory: While persuasion theory is based on prior homework and set of rules, drive theory is relatively the opposite and is based on instinctive actions and ideas without any prior homework and scratching done. The learning attitude theory is the anti thesis to drive theory which is based on instincts than motivation and persuasion (Nevid, 2012). The drive theory is loosely based around action to reaction concept and the natural urge and process of conducting a particular set of action. According to the need of learning theory process, various elements are part of ensuring and completing the overall learning process. These come as necessary variables which are vital for the completion of the overall task. Receiving end: Finally the part of the communication end which receives the information from the generating source. The receiver could be face to face, could be via email or letter, could be on the phone, or other indirect means. But the process of persuasion would be directly addressing the receiver. It is necessary for the success of the entire process that the content reaches the receiver or the destination in the original form. A process and persuasion task cannot be expected to succeed if the content are being forged or tampered in the way from source to the receiver across different channels and paths that are the in between units. Various variables are involved with in the receiving unit. It involves the kind of people involved in the activity, the kind of people who are receiving it, those who are targeted to get it. The persuasion and learning process becomes easy if the receivers are in sync with the idea and learning and preaching process. It becomes a mere process of transfer and enlightenment. The real process and challenge is when the receiving unit is on different wavelength and efforts of persuasion are needed in full capacity. Reward factor: According to the concept of learning theory, reward is a motivational unit and it can work wonders if the receiving end is being informed of the overall rewards that might be associated with the task at hand. In such case the persuasion process becomes far more easy and effective. Since incentive is a natural phenomena which is bound to attract the individual to itself , for this reason if one is informed of the returns that are being advocated through the persuasion process, it makes the overall concept easy. This concept can be aptly applied in the daily life activities and each of the functions if undertaken through the process can lead to peaceful and successful communications. Facilitators and their role: Facilitators are the middle men between the persuading unit and the people who are aimed to be convinced into learning and conducting a particular process. Facilitators ensure providing all the necessary factors and environment that is required to make the project of learning and motivation a success. Facilitators malfunctioning can have serious negative impact on the overall process intended. Behavior knowledge: The knowledge of behavior is a plus if attained. This makes the persuasion process far more easy and convenient. If an individual’s taste, liking and orientation is known about a respective target, it can enable targeting on those areas which are of interest, of easy handling and more effective with regard to mission accomplishment. Credibility: Authenticity also matters in the overall process. A persuader with a reliable name in the field is bound to attract more attention and is bound to have more claims to his saying than those whose credibility might not be sufficiently trust worthy. Similarly the source, the content of message, the nature or task, the overall dynamics of the process are more rewarding if the trust element is maintained and ensured in the entire process. This equally applies to mass media, students, family members, professionals. Conclusion: Reward and good values at the end of the entire deal is what drives the people towards a task and project. It makes the overall process of motivation easier, effective, and interesting and more fruit yielding. The affectivity of persuasion stands ahead of other concepts since it deals with the emotional and sentimental aspect. Emotional address makes it easier to gain market, convince the customers and achieve the overall targets. With reward in sight, the repetitive work can bring about positive responses and make a project and learning process a success. Works cited: Broyles, E. A., & Harvey, T. R. (2010).
