HERE YOUR HERE HERE HERE Ethical Considerations Related to Replies on Stories The organization must consider the needs of the stakeholders who will be witnessing the public relations responses. In order for an organization to build trustworthy relationships with investors who provide capital for expansion and operations, it must appeal to these groups without risk of causing damage to shareholder value. If the story, as one hypothetical example, is about allegations of insider trading with executive teams within the corporation, the organization must ensure that it does not use language that might set off a panic on Wall Street. Corporations that publicly trade have an obligation to ensure the wealth of those who invest in its stocks and bonds, thus it must consider its responses without using terminology that could jeopardize investor confidence.
Executives that might formulate a response to a news story also have obligations to ensure that they act on behalf of the organization, not their own independent value systems. Thus, if the story were about an issue that is highly debatable by public society, the representative must ensure that responses are in line with organizational values or vision before responding. This can avoid liability on behalf of the executive and also spare the company from negative social publicity. This is to ensure trustworthiness for the long-term in the eyes of those who read this response. At the same time, responses must be factual and able to be cross-checked through some fact-finding source before giving a formal response to the story. This builds integrity and trustworthiness regarding the replies. Read More
