Media There are divided claims about the Hollywood’s success. The heads of Hollywood conglomerates assert that the wide world success of their product is attributable to their superior quality. The critics, who majorly consist of political economists, disagree with the Hollywood’s conglomerates. They feel that Hollywood’s achievement is not because of conglomerate control over marketing, distribution, and exhibition of their products. The critics argue that Hollywood’s is the principle source of disguise in America. According to the opponents, the Hollywood plays a big role for the people’s poor perception of United States across the globe. In addition, many critics of Hollywood perceive that the film industries played a big principal role towards the attack that happened in United States in the year 2001 (Godawa, & Winter, 2009:25). The political class blame the Hollywood for typecasting corporations as bad characters and for rejecting women who are thirty years and over. Critics hold that Hollywood exploits child audiences; the movies depict hyper-violence, for their openness to multiple styles of sexuality, and stereotyping people’s culture. Despite the strong wave of criticism, the Hollywood studios continue to penetrate the global film market. The Hollywood studios capitalise on their blockbusters films globally to develop programs that calls for buyers to take several and less desirable properties. Hollywood has an increasing and fair reception from different parts in the globe. This implies that Hollywood is in every aspect of the cinema. This paper supports the arguments of Hollywood conglomerates. Conglomerates assertions of the success of Hollywood are well founded. For many years, Hollywood has prospered in the past and it is moving on well. There is a substantial evidence to concur with the conglomerates claims that Hollywood is doing fine. Hollywood has received a universal acceptance from the fans not only in the multicultural United States but also across the globe. This acknowledgement spans through a wide range of fans. Hollywood has some ingredients in the industry, which other moves overtly miss. For instance, Hollywood movies make the audience feel good through the glamour they get in their televisions, computers, and online (Miller, et al, 2005:35). Hollywood is a global leader in the entertainment industry providing products and services for leisure to the audience around the globe. It is a giant in the financing, producing, and distribution of entertainment content. In addition, the Hollywood gives audience identification of youngsters. People widely acknowledge that Hollywood has undergone a tremendous change and contributes to the economy of United States. This industry is not just an entertainment industry but also is a great venture to make money. Hollywood has expanded beyond boundaries and the customers have received it with wide appreciation. Sound distribution, marketing, and exhibition of movies are principal factors for the success of Hollywood. Hollywood movies make a lot of money all over the world. This puts Hollywood as a pioneer and leader in movie-making industry. It defines many directions of development for the world movie industry. The competitors of the Hollywood who majorly comprise of private film studios cannot withstand the competitive advantage of this film company. The widespread of the Hollywood movies in the world has captured people’s attention and therefore many people demand more of the movies on daily basis. Moreover, the strong home base of production and distribution networks has seen Hollywood advance to reach high level of success (Miller, et al, 2005:75). The conglomerates claim of their success is attributable to the prudent marketing strategy is well founded. With the unparalleled technological advancement, Hollywood has invested a lot in the television, and internet. All Hollywood products are in the international cinemas, exhibitions, and even in educational programs. Hollywood uses museum exhibitions to promote its products. In addition, Hollywood disseminates its films contents through Digital Versatile Disc (DVD), and in the television. The conglomerates were very right because Hollywood through the marketing strategy focuses on local, regional, national, and transnational cinemas. This confirms that Hollywood embraces cultural diversity of international audiences (Miller, et al, 2005:167). Hollywood creates new movies each year with a new theme that keeps the audience grilled to the screens and in the internet. The marketing team pursues many markets beyond United States. This team ensures that the Hollywood gets licensing in the region it ventures. The promotion of new brands of movies and their availability to people creates enough awareness to the audiences. Hollywood employment of the young actors and consistency of the films ensures a firm grip of the old and new audience (Miller, et al, 2005:12). The Hollywood products are everywhere in the world. Hollywood emphasises of sound promotion strategies of their quality movies. They understand that apart from entertainment they have to generate money to keep them glued to their core activities. Through the marketing and promotion strategy, the sales of the movies have increased tremendously (Maltby, 2004:150). This has enabled Hollywood to acquire the best actors. Most of these actors are under the age of thirty years giving the right flavour and quality of the Hollywood movies. This maintains the superiority of Hollywood movies. Hollywood produces quality movies that keep their audience craving for more. The products are genuine and original. The movies range from science fictions to culture-oriented ones. They cover a wide range of themes that touch on the children, youth, and adult. Hollywood has maintained a good name through the sell of their unadulterated and authentic products both in the local and international arenas. Hollywood produces many superior movies with little utilisation of their budget. Some of the movies produced at very low budget include the Shrek, Spider-Man, and Pirates. These movies sold a lot because of their great reception in the theatres and in DVDs. Other movies that got a huge acceptance in the year 2007 comprise of Transformers, James Bond, Jason Bourne, and Die Hard series. The sale of Transformers surpassed a billion-dollar mark. James Bond, Jason Bourne, and Die Hard series hit a half-billion dollar mark. Although the critics singled that, the Bourne, Bond, and Die Hard had antiquated qualities as character development and human drama, the sales from the movies remained stable (Maltby, 2004:123). The new breeds of blockbusters have contributed to the success of the Hollywood. This is in addition to the utilisation of computer effects and action that typify conglomerate era blockbusters. Hollywood utilisation of the new blockbusters whose narrative, stylistic, industrial, and technological conventions have combined into an authentic set of rules directs marketing of the Hollywood quality products. To keep the brand superior, Hollywood movies exist in different forms. These comprise of classic children’s stories, a traditional fairy tale, and comics. This confirms that the basis of Hollywood superiority is on source material, primary market, and target audience (Hesmondhalgh, 2007:99). To attain superiority, Hollywood has invested in more complex character development and dramatic conflicts. For instance, to capture the audience attention and commercial appeal Hollywood put many funds to improve on movies such as Jason Bourne. This action revitalized the movies whereby Bond and Batman series received big reception from the audience. The creation of strong characters does not only happen within individual series but the series at large. This demonstrates that individual Hollywood movies have internal coherence and are customer driven. The Hollywood movies are more complex in terms of their themes, masculine superiority, and technical ingenuity. This has made Hollywood to cerebrate its performance in the film industry. The employment of young actors portrays the society in a more light position. The audience can see the world and its inhabitants in simple binaries of light and dark, good and evil (Maltby, 2004:145). The Hollywood movies depict disorder in the world is a consequence of human decision of wrong doers who misuse power. The conglomerate’s chief studios and their entertainment sections have home video, music publishing, merchandising, licensing, and gaming enables Hollywood to market its superior films. For instance, the Spider-Man, a typical conglomerate-era media franchise under Sony had its configuration propelled by the 2002 blockbuster movie hit, Spider-Man, produced by Sony-owned Columbia Pictures. This has become a multi-billion-dollar movie series. In addition, it is a vital component of Global media and technology operations (Sickels, 2011:68). The funds that the Hollywood collects enable them to buy the most talented, professional, and competent actors, producers, directors, entertainment attorneys, film financiers, and technology. Some of the Hollywood movies such as Breaking Daw have earned about $ 588 million worldwide. The entire Twilight movies have brought $2.4 billion in the Hollywood industry. This entertainment giant uses this money to buy the best actors who demonstrate an understanding of different story lines of a variety of genres. The actors are young and below the age of thirty years. The audience identify with the youngsters giving the movies glamour and the splendour. In addition, the money pays the most experienced actors such as Kristen Stewart and Robert Patterson (Miller, et al, 2005:152). Hollywood industry earns its revenue through the franchise system apart the revenue from actual film. Hollywood uses the funds from the sales of the movies to produce its products. It uses the 3D technology to create its movies. Investment in digital technologies has made the Hollywood movies to be more consistent and uniform with high degree of clarity. This has enabled Hollywood to produce genres that translates across all cultures. The news technologies make many copies of films at a very cheap price. For instance, once movie sold a lot in the year 2006 making huge profits. The cost of producing this movie was very low because of Hollywood’s initiative to spend fewer funds in production of superior qualities (Hesmondhalgh, 2007:49). Through the sales of its products, Hollywood can purchase qualified directors. These competent directors ensure that Hollywood has the best movies that have good and moving stories. The movies capture the attention of the audience. The directors ascertain that the films they create capture issues of big interest to the masses. The list of the Hollywood directors continues to grow big. Some of the best directors that the industry has acquired comprises of Ron Howard, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, William Wyler, Robert Wise, and many others. The directors’ control shows ranging from controversial and terrific ones (Hesmondhalgh, 2007:38). The distribution of high quality products of Hollywood is efficient. Hollywood emphasises on networking. It has different distribution points all over the world. The distributors sell the Hollywood films in both online and offline. The online mode of selling entails purchasable and free downloads. In the light of increased piracy in the entertainment industry, Hollywood has established a proper mechanism to contain it. The users allowable downloads are not pirated and Hollywood assures the audience of continued supply of the best and superior Hollywood products. This has seen Hollywood movies grow substantially in the international box office. The networking team reaches both the youngsters and the old generation. The concerted efforts of major studios of Hollywood have enabled the networking company to make big leaps in production of superior films that play well in America and in the global arenas (Hesmondhalgh, 2007:48). The efforts of the networking team have seen expansion of Hollywood products in the international markets. For instance, for instance China has registered a quick growth whereby box-office receipts reached $ 1.5 billion in the year 2010. This is despite the availability of the domestic films in China. The government of China allow only a small percentage of non-Chinese films in the market. However, Hollywood films have penetrated the strictly controlled market. This implies that the popularity of Hollywood movies is not attributable to purely on marketing but the superiority. The foreign box-offices sales are important; the people who manage international distribution have become more influential. The distributors weigh decisions that direct the making of the films (Trope, 2012:95). The decisions have helped the Hollywood studios to seed films with locations, actors, and language well known in target countries.
