COMPUTING By Computer sciences and Information technology The of the School The and where it islocated The Date Database Management Applications Some of the relational database systems include SQLite, Oracle, IBM DB2, Ms SQLServer, mySQL, and PostgreSQL. Relational database systems are very common in most of the business organizations because they are relatively easy to use compared to other database systems. They rely on data normalization and store data in tables using rows and columns. Data within tables can relate with each other and the database administrator has the responsibility of ensuring that there is effective management of each data table. Effective management of data tables involves accurate joining of single or multiple tables. Database administrators manipulate data in tables using Structured Query Language (SQL). Flat File Based Database Management Systems They are the arguably the simplest database management system. Flat model systems present both binary and human readable text formats. According to the database administrators, flat models are suitable for native format storage models as well as stand-alone applications. The most common types of flat models include spreadsheet and the Comma Separated Values (CSV). Hierarchical Database Management Systems Hierarchical database systems are suitable for the storage of data describing attributes and features. They operate on a model resembling the parent child tree relationship and are database administrators commonly use them to store information in nested format. The most ideal type of information for hierarchical systems includes songs and book chapters. A XML document is the most common type of hierarchical system. Network Database Management Systems A network system’s model resembles that of the hierarchical system but the difference is that network systems have numerous parent child tree structure. It relies on SQL for data manipulation and database administrators have to traverse the entire system in search of an item. Object-oriented Database Management Systems Object-oriented database systems use the object-oriented data model which has pointers through which database administrators can access objects and data. These systems have numerous structures thus they are highly extensive. The main advantage of object-oriented database systems is that they enable database administrators to treat data as native code. IBM DB4o is the most common type of object-oriented database system. Currently, relational database technology is probably the most prevalent database technology used in modern information technology shops. But database technology is an evolving field and new technologies are being developed constantly. Search on the Web or in the school library for articles on emerging database technologies, such as object database management systems. Make sure to include white papers from companies such as Oracle, Sybase, IBM, and Microsoft. NoSQL models data in means whereas relational databases use tables to model data. Secondly, NoSQL has unlimited data storage while RDBMS limits amount of storage to the physical memory of the system. Thirdly, NoSQL offer unstructured approaches to data storage whereas RDBMS offers a structured approach to storing data. Despite the differences, both NoSQL and RDBMS are database management systems. Object-oriented database management systems use object-oriented programming language for data manipulation. On the other hand, relational databases use SQL for data manipulation. Object databases have numerous advantages over relational databases including fast speed, effectiveness in handling complex tasks, developer productivity, and ease of use. Object databases are better than relational databases in all the four aspects of performance. However, both object databases and relational databases can code data. Detailed Analysis of the various database management systems Microsoft access One of the simplest methods of browser based database creation is Microsoft access. Microsoft access is very user friendly and easy to obtain since it comes when it comes to various databases. Additionally, it is evident that Microsoft access is one of the widely used database management systems. It is a low costs relational database system that has been used for ages by various appropriators. It is one of the most popular database management systems used in the contemporary world today. It allows for creation of tables, addition of database to an existing system querying a database as well as the fact that it is a relational database design. Oracle Database 10g Oracle was the first database management system developed to be used in self management systems all over the world. Additionally, the database also provided a platform for intellectual management infrastructure where the database is self healing factor has been included in the database. Oracle is equally effective for business related coding and structure or database management. The database is mostly preferred by coders because it harneses simplified and coded Configuration management systems in it. Additionally, patching using oracle database is simplified for various organizations as it not only provides a platform to review data or manage it but it also carries a self healing system which has assisted in the management and administration of data in databases. Oracle also provides a user-friendly platform for provisioning, testing and masking/subsetting databases. A key trait about the platform is that it is best used in performance management of other databases, such as websites and computer application, hence making it a preferred product by most of the buyers. The database equally prompts automatic tuning thus making it more flexible for the administration, addition and modification of data. Some of the key features about this database is the three significant features which are, a Shared Pool, a highly preferable Database buffer cache, the Redo Log Buffer and an encompassed Multithread server(MTS) structures, which thus make it highly unique for its various users. MySQL MySQL is the most preferential database among coders. Its popularity is highly connected to the fact that it was one of the first database management system used by programmers and the ease in its use has also made it a very popular database management system. The system is mostly used in open source applications and is categorized as evidenced above as a open source relational database management system, which thus makes it widely applicable in website development and the creation of open source applications used mainly online. Another key feature about the program that makes it increasingly popular is the large storage system, the I GB storage system mostly used by programmers, thus allowing them to modify their applications whenever they want. The online assistance with the use of the program has also made it highly popular and equally desired by most database managers and programmers. For new programmers and people with limited database management techniques, MySQL comes in handy due to the countless organization initiated and personal tutorials available online. MariaDB MariaDB is a storage system that has been popularly used in American universities, but its popularity all over the world is however marginally limited. Using a binary log system, the speed of using this platform has been halved making it twice as faster as common database management systems such as MySQL. As such it also facilitates replication of data, thus ensuring that data, once created is stored twice or several other times to ensure that it is not only safe but rather stored in multiple versions incase of the need to restart the entire system, or if progress is lost using one computer, it is retrievable and useable on another computer. This database management system allows for users to engage more than 200,000+ connections thus allowing the user to use it in the creation of an online database system with multiple users, or in managing large company databases. The platform also allows for the querying of previously assumed as disk-based temporary tables using the Aria storage, thus eliminating the need for disk to manage such databases. PostgreSQL PostgreSQL is a object-relational database management system which is used widely in the creation of databases that require compliance. This database has thus been equipped purposely to enhance compliance in database management for both organizational and personal use. Like MySQL, the database is also an open source system. It strong points are integrity assurance, accuracy and reliability of data and is thus excellent for the creation of accuracy based database systems such as finance database systems or tax return compliance systems. The system also features a limitless column and file size which thus makes it highly flexible for management of any data set. Like the Oracle Database 10g, it also features automatic increment columns or tuning, which thus makes is highly desirable for the management of database systems that require constant and improved change. SQLite One of the key features about this system is the ACID feature (atomic, consistent, isolated, and durable) which makes it highly reliable even after system crashes and power failures thus placing it as a key system for the management of databases which are sensitive and extremely crucial. Regardless, this database uses a disk system which thus makes it less preferable to contemporary programmers who are used to cloud computing for their data sets. However, only one disk is required to carry the entire database, thus making it easy to use and transport from one area to another in the absence of an online presence. The disk system also makes the database server-less and thus highly economical to the beneficiaries of the program. The system is also largely flexible as it accommodates dozens of coding languages as opposed to countless other databases limited to 2 or 3 programming languages. Microsoft SQL Server In most contemporary organizations, and most technology schools, MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server are the most taught database systems which thus make them highly popular and widely understood by programmers. One of the key features about Microsoft SQL Server, is the fact that it uses an online server, which thus makes it as cost-friendly as SQLite for its clients. It is also more flexible than the latter since it allows for the establishment of servers on site, thus it can be used for both low-cost and extravagant users. As seen above most database management systems offer 1GB storage for the programmer, whereas Microsoft SQL Server offers 10 GB giving the user more flexibility, similar to Oracle. SAP HANA SAP HANA brands itself as the in memory computing software. It uses an on-premise server or the cloud as well. This database is easily updatable hence very appealing for real-time database management. It is mainly used in three phases of database management which are Operational Reporting, which issues real-time insights from transactions, hence highly applicable for the banking industry or the sports industry for score analysis, Data Warehousing, which is the basic storage of data for prolonged periods of time and Predictive and Text analysis on Big Data, which is mainly based on trend analysis, and hence the platform can equally be used for creating trading platforms such as ForEx platforms or stock exchange platforms, where predictions and trend analysis are conducted on a sequential process. dBase When talking about databases, dBase, can be assumed as the forefather of the computing era. This platform was developed in the 1970s in the development of operating systems for microcomputers, before programming was popularized as career choice. This system has seen some of the world’s leading operating systems come to light such as DOS or the iOS, since it was used in the 1980s to create the operating system for the Apple II computer. Companies would modify the platform and through this modification almost all other database management systems came to exist. dBase is thus seen as the reason why computing exists on a large scale. It is the main reason other databases such as FoxPro and all other database management system that have the suffix BASE were created on. Conclusion Database management systems have made items such as cloud computing, emails, social media and countless program used to maker our lives easier a reality. There are several database management systems which are largely appealing to the programmer of the contemporary world in addition these listed here. A few other popularly used database management systems include FoxPro, IBM DB2, LibreOffice , Base FileMaker Pro and InterSystems Cache. The wide use of database management systems have only seen newer ones introduced and old one’s redefined. References SAP. 2014. Welcome to Sap Hana.
