On the work front, the advantages of ICT cannot be overlooked in maintaining and implementing successful quality programs. Customer-driven standards, customer-supplier links, the prevention of error, quality at the source, and continuous improvement are some of the principles that are put into practice (Laudon & Laudon, 2000 cited by Iles & Healy, 2004). IC T facilitates the production process, helps meet benchmarking standards, make constant upgradation based on customer demands. The internet has revolutionized not just the selling of goods and services (B2C) but also B2B transactions.

The efforts of companies in implementing codes of conduct to govern their employees’ use of ICT have not been effective (Iles & Healy). Codes hardly had any influence on how the non-IT professionals used the ICT. Employees often view these codes as a means to control employee behavior or to conceal the company’s information system, which gives rise to resistance.

Desai et al., (2004) quote Schwartz (2001) stating that personal values, fear of discipline and organization loyalty helped explain code compliance, while self-interest, dissatisfaction and environment (peer pressure, supervision, and opportunity) were reasons for non-compliance. Managers and employees need to be cognizant of the ethical use of computers. Merely having ethical codes and practices does not guarantee ethical practices within the organization. Being a responsible member of the organization, they should adhere to the ethical norms in computers. Organizations need to adopt a comprehensive approach and investment in ethical safeguards. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
