Extract of sample "Management Information Systems"

In the current speedy advancing technological world, companies are doing their best to ensure that technology acts as one of their key tools for promoting their ability to achieve their set out business goals (Gupta, 2011). Different organizations differently make use of technology to be successful in meeting their organization objectives. For example, Payoneer Inc. uses information systems to perform e-commerce activities for global banking transactions. On the other hand, Nokia Inc. uses information systems to perform Nokia care services, which acts as very essential in promoting competitive advantage (Kossowski, 2007).

According to research, there are four strategies for competitive advantage namely cost leadership, differentiation, Low-Cost focus and differentiation focus. Cost leadership entails a business being the cheapest provider of products while differentiation is about the provision of unique products. Low-cost focus resembles cost leadership with the difference being that it focuses on a niche market. Differentiation focus resembles low-cost focus but also includes marketing a product in some unique way.

With differentiation, Payoneer Inc. provides MasterCard services which very few banking companies in the world offer. On the other hand, Nokia Inc. applies a low-cost focus to deliver phone repair services and differentiation focus through the provision of unique windows phones (Khosrowpour, 2006).
