FALL 2013
1. Provide a description of any five equipments that could be effectively used for telemedicine. (10 Points)
Telemedicine is a way of using telecommunication equipment and IT technologies in the provision of clinical health care. Most of the time the system helps to eliminate the issue of barriers hence improving medical services availed. Other equipment includes telediagnosis and pharmacy used in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients from diverse areas
2. Describe any five Personal Health Information Systems, their strengths, and weaknesses. (5 Points)
These are the systems that are used to store patients’ records for further articulations. Personal health records, billing issues, medical descriptions, the health of a patient, and admission strategy are core personal information availed in this system. Its merit includes effective communication, patient-to-doctor interactions, and efficiency as far as medication processes are concerned. Its demerits are that when the system fails to deliver due to multi-functioning, everything goes astray. In addition, it may result in loss of information should it be under fire as well as it depends on electricity to work effectively.
3. Describe any two Clinical Decision Support Systems, their strengths, and weaknesses. (5 Points)
Clinical decision support involves a system that provides clinical attestation electronically. This includes telemedicine and telenursing. Its strength is that it delivers the work on time and efficiently. However, its weakness is that it cannot function without proper supervision, and should it fail, the result is severe.
4. Provide a case study not discussed in the class on how cyber attacks can create trouble to systems associated with patient information. (5 Points)
In this contemporary world, people work and live in a world that is networked. Due to this reliance on the internet, cyber security is very significant. Cybersecurity will assist guard businesses and consumers will bring important infrastructures on which the economy relies, and improve national security. While calling for cybersecurity, the government should approach the issue with care in order to guard innovation, privacy, the open nature of the internet, and liberty.
However, the ever-changing and interlinked nature of networks places cyber security at a risky place in that it is becoming hard to secure confidential information. Therefore, the government and private sector must work hand in hand in order to enhance cyber security. The government is justified in telling the private sector how to enhance or improve cyber security because there is an urgent need to protect and secure our processors/computers, financial institutions, confidential information on national security, and other significant aspects of the government's infrastructure (Heiman, 2003). The government is calling on tough government regulation of what is posted in cyberspace. The government understands that computer systems need to be secure because the ever-increasing function of information and the rapid growth in the e-commerce area have made cyber security significant to the economy. In addition, cyber security is important to the functioning of safety essential systems like a response to an emergency and to the guard of government’s infrastructure systems.
