1A. Examine Software as a service (SaaS) and discuss the advantages and disadvantages it provides to e-businesses. Software as a service is a comprehensive application delivery concept whereby a software vendor comes up with a web-native software application and hosts in addition to operating the handy application for use by its various clients over the internet (Goecart, 2012). Customers pay for using the service but not for owning it. It is a form of cloud computing where software is launched to the cloud (internet) and later used as a service.

Advantages:Initial investment is minimal, and the risk is less. The use of this software does not require an initial investment but fees payable as the software is put in use. This is a significant benefit to both IT managers and ultimately the company since initial budget is overridden. The software is cost effective since one pays for what they need. One gets a cost saving with regard to maintaining the respective platform of machinery, as well as, the necessary databases and the application server to run the application (OM Software, 2012).

It does not require dedicated stuff to monitor updates and software upgrades immediately. The software supports agile and quick implementation since bugs are known to have unswerving commissioning and treatment solution faster as compared to in-house facilities. The company outsources to a level that systems do not disburse effort in the maintenance and choice of very systems. This allows the company to increasingly focus on the business as much as this requires an IT department.Disadvantages:There is low confidence in data security.

Corporate data is considered private to the company, and if let outside the walls of the company then many tend not to like it especially senior management (Brown, Southworth, and Sarzynski, 2008). In some occasions, it is conservative and skepticalThere tends to be difficulties in integrating this system to the rest of the system. Normally local or in-house applications are installed, but with this system, there is complexity in case one wants to connect or use the available data in cloud with the data in the company.

There exists a possible breach of agreements on the level of service in relation to the degree of confidence relative to either the platform as a service or the respective software vendor.1B. From the e-Activity, compare the QR code you generated for your email address to the one you generated for your telephone number. Describe the similarities and differences between the two codes. The question suggests that Quick Response Codes can be generated for either e-mail address or telephone number.

It is worth noting that e-mail addresses are associated with online QR codes while the mobile phone (telephone number) is associated with offline codes. Both codes have obvious similarities in the sense that they are both meant to serve a similar purpose. They both convey information to users in a quick manner (Philogene, 2008). They signify a specific sense of exclusivity as regards the targeted users. They are also used to encode URLS for various websites. The two types of codes enhance efficient processing, for instance of tickets, as compared to the traditional barcodes.

Additionally, these codes provided more information about a certain products as compared to barcodes. QR codes generated for telephone numbers are linked to a specific mobile phone (smartphone). Information relating to the code is conveyed to the user through short messages (SMS) via the telephone number in use. On the other hand, QR codes generated for e-mail addresses works in such a way that the coded information it conveyed to the user through e-mail alerts via the e-mail address in use.

QR codes generated for telephone numbers can be captured with the smartphone’s camera while QR codes generated for e-mail addresses can be captured directly in to the computer by a fitted webcam (Philogene, 2008). 2A. Analyze how a change to an organization’s IT infrastructure could affect the entire organization’s business model.According to OM Software (2012) Information Technology structure changes every other moment and an organization should be abreast with the changes or risk lagging behind in the market.

All departments of an organization are entwined by the IT structure, and a change in the system brings about a total change throughout the entire organization For instance, an organization offering typing and printing services using archaic systems like typewriters and grayscale printing services will undergo a complete overhaul if it decides to embrace technology and start using computers and provide color printing. This will offer clients options of either hard or soft copies. Another firm using that advertising through paper and willing to go a notch higher, in addition to going digital, will have to streamline its activities and operations to be in line with the online trade regulations.

The advertisement budget will have to change too. 2B. Propose a change that could be made by organizations to reduce the carbon and energy footprint in an effort to support green IT.Green IT refers to the study and practice of manufacturing through design, using and proper disposing of servers, computers, as well as, supplementary subsystems such as storage devices, monitors, communication and networking systems and printers. They should be used in an effective and efficient manner in order to avoid negative implications on the environment (At&t, 2012).

‘Energy footprint is a measure of land required to absorb the CO2 emissions’ (Brown, Southworth, and Sarzynski, 2008). In practicing green IT, alternative sources of energy to fossil fuels will reduce our energy footprint followed by carbon footprint. For instance, the use of solar energy instead of fossil fuels to power computers will cut emissions of carbon by a high percentage. Common knowledge dictates that the idea of reducing, reusing and recycling helps to reduce the carbon footprint of humans (Brown, Southworth, and Sarzynski, 2008).

Nothing should be disposed into the soil. Instead, all ferrous materials prone to degrading or oxidizing ought to sell at reasonably reduced prices. The sooner this initiative is realized, the better. Industries, therefore, have a responsibility of materializing this concept by keeping distressed inventory records to the disposal of the public such that anyone is allowed to bid at their preferred prices.ReferencesGoecart.
