Human resource management is an important area of concern in real word organizations. Individuals being recruited for this position needs to possess competencies in order to manage widespread business operations. Employers hiring HR practitioners have certain criteria’s which are mentioned in job advertisements. There are many job portals where such advertisements could be easily located. In this study, two job portals have been selected such as SEEK.com and jobs.wa.gov.au. These websites encompasses wide range of jobs for HR graduates. The study would not only be inclined towards collecting information from these job portals but it shall also highlight the entire process of data collection. An appropriate analysis of job advertisements shall be exhibited focusing on key competencies or skills referred in mentioned advertisements. The overall synthesis process will be mentioned in this study. Job advertisements selection This study deals with recruiting individuals for HR positions. There are two job portals chosen for this study – SEEK.com and jobs.wa.gov.au. Job advertisements found in these websites have been given in Appendix 1 and Appendix 2. The job advertisements selected are for entry level human resource positions and HR graduates. Individuals being hired through these websites shall be placed in private or governmental firms. Firms usually recruit human resource personnel in order to manage efficiently team members and deliver desirable outcomes. The job portals sites selected are well-known sites in terms of accessing suitable job opportunities (Silverman, 2010). Job advertisements were selected over a period of two days. There were some specific criteria’s for these job advertisements like salary structure, job level, job position, location, etc. All of these job advertisements as specified in Appendices were not retrieved in a single day. Extensive search was essential in order to select appropriate job vacancies. In both these job portal sites there were some criteria’s that helped in filtering job search (Schneider, 2007). Those job advertisements asking for more than 4 years of experience was removed. On the other hand, selection was also made through basic salary structure and career growth opportunities in respective firms. Analysis of advertisements Job advertisements incorporated in this study possess specific characteristics. It can be stated that each of these advertisements are highly distinct and addresses specific corporate goals. Industry is a matter of concern while analysing job advertisements. All job ads outlined in the study belongs to different industrial categories. Job advertisements selected from SEEK.com were posted by diverse industries. There were advertisements given by social enterprise, aged care organization, educational institution, law firm and FMCG Company. Diversity is observed in these job posts since each industry have particular job requirements. Social enterprise is recruiting people for managing culture in the organization. The other industries are focused on hiring individuals who shall serve as human resource consultant. These consultants as per job advertisements would manage workforce, actively participate in compensation management or remuneration system and develop effective training programs. Private firms could be reached through SEEK.com. Appendix 2 highlights all governmental job postings. There are wide array of departments included in these government jobs such as Department of Corrective Services, Department of Training and Workforce Development, Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Department of Liquor, Racing and Gaming. These departments are recruiting human resource coordinator in the organizational system. According to job advertisements, some of these jobs are of part time and some constitutes full time employment. Contractual jobs are also represented in these job advertisements. In such jobs, employment conditions are confined to specific time interval. When this time period expires, management can either retain employee or can call for retrenchment. There were diverse set of job requirements. Most of the private firms advertised for full-time employment (Price, 2007). However in certain government job postings there were part-time employment conditions. The job timings were also properly mentioned in these advertisements. Fixed term contract jobs as stated in advertisements were hiring HR freshers at low pay-scale. Continuous job positions required minimum experience in HR graduates. Understanding of data analysis process A research paper incorporates various factors. Data collection can be stated as one such factor which holds significance. There are different procedures through which data is collected in a research process. Qualitative and quantitative techniques both can be utilized to collect data from market. In earlier years job advertisements were mainly noticed in traditional media channels such as newspapers, radio’s, television, etc. However focus has now shifted towards social media platforms or job portal sites. Employers find it comfortable to post job advertisements in these sites. A clear job structure is followed which reflects key job requirements, employee benefits and potential of a company in future years. These factors are properly scrutinized by all individuals who are applying for jobs. Data to be collected for this study was only few job advertisements from different websites. Two well-known job portal sites was selected and based on specific criteria’s job advertisements were obtained. Each of these advertisements is unique by nature reflecting key job requisites. Apart from data collection, this study shall also outline an appropriate synthesis of job requirements in these advertisements. Key competencies or skills have been summarised in a tabular format in Appendix 3. SEEK.com has provided wide range of diverse job opportunities. First job advertisement in this website was given by BreslinLeCoic. This organization is searching for a HR personnel who has competency to manage an entire team. It is one of the leading social enterprises and encompasses diverse cultural background employees. Hence individual being recruited should be competent in more than one language, needs to be patient, and efficient in developing strategies for cross-cultural management. The executive leader hired for this job also needs to accept change in least time possible. St Ives Group advertised jobs concerning human resource graduate. This is an aged care organization and is searching for talented human resource personnel. Key skills required by them are efficient communication skills, team management skills, etc. Competencies for this job are centred towards proper understanding about human resource management principles. There are some competencies and skills outlined by advertisement of educational institution. These competencies are that of being a strategic positioner, capability builder, change champion, innovator and technology proponent. Other firms which had posted job advertisements were a part of vast FMCG sector. This sector is highly competitive and there is increased demand towards talented professionals. In this high performing firms, recruited individuals needs to be credible activists. FMCG sector is inclined towards hiring a HR graduate who can formulate productive strategies. This form of multinational enterprise basically requires an individual who possesses capability to influence key business decisions (Webb, 2007). Career opportunities as per job advertisement are high if individuals are decisive thinker, courageous enough to face challenges and believe in collaborative working approach. The government job advertisements are either for full-time or part-time. Working hours would differ from one job to another according to job requirements. It is clearly evident that governmental framework for job is different from that of private framework. The competencies required by all government departments revolve around organizational design, service delivery, employment engagement, talent planning, training and development and employee relations. In any governmental organization, strong relations should be developed with team members so as to avoid trade union problems. Majority percentage of jobs posted in the government website is for candidates who can serve organization as a human resource assistant or advisor. These job responsibilities can be fulfilled only when individuals posses specific capabilities and skills. The employers are looking for individuals who can accept challenges and are capable enough to contribute their innovative ideas towards strategic decision making process (Mir and Mir, 2005). Each job advertisement given in Appendices reflects learning and growth opportunities provided by the company to candidates. These opportunities shall be explored based on mentioned skills and competencies. Some of the advertisements even have highlighted talent management skills as an essential component. Talent management in current scenario is not related to recruitment and selection process, but it comprises of designing strategies in order to retain employees within the system. The entire synthesis process was performed by taking into consideration one organization at a time. There were various industrial sectors included in the study and hence each sector is expected to have distinct set of skills or competencies. Conclusion This study has clearly portrayed specifications of job advertisements. In modern world, individuals rely on job portal sites so as to access preferred employers or job positions. This study was centred towards recruiting HR graduates in an organization. Job advertisements had been collected from two different job portal sites. All of these advertisements were either for HR graduates or for entry level job positions. Competencies or skills mentioned in these job advertisements are job role specific. The key skills which need to be present within any HR personnel are good communication skills, talent management skills, ability to design training programs, skilled influencer, credible activist, etc. Private and government jobs were located in the websites. These jobs are providing learning and growth opportunities to candidates only if they are capable enough to deliver desirable results. References Mir, A. and Mir, R. (2005).
