PORTFOLIO ITEM 4: Preparing for interview :- STAR Technique As a future job seeker, I need to practice certain interviews skills that my employers may adopt to use, especially issues pertaining behavioral interviews. For that reason, it is important that I use the STAR technique to be in readiness of any future interviews that I will be facing.to begin with, the acronym “STAR” stands for Situation, Task, Action, Result. It is a universally designed technique, which is literally enable interviewees such as me to give a complete and a meaningful answer to questions that will be asked by the interviewers. Situation or Task, in which I need to describe the situation, which I was confronted with, or the specific task that I was needed to accomplish. I need to make this section to be concise and precise as possible as well as informative; I will always concentrate on what is important to the subject matter of the question or the story. For instance, if the interviewer will be asking me the situations where I will be dealing with illiterate people, then is should be able to explain how I met that person and the reason why he could be difficult to interview. The second step is Action. I understand this is the most significant part of the STAR approach where I will personally demonstrate and highlight to the interviewers concerning personal attributes and the skills being tested by the question. I will know to explain what I did, however, I will have to remember the following in my mind while facing the interviewer; I will be personal, mostly I will only talk on the matters concerning me and not any other person on the team. Secondly, I will take heed of the technical information only if it will be crucial to my story. I will need to remember to discuss my answers into details and not assuming that the interviewers already know. STAR technique will also require me to describe what I did and how I did it. I understand that the interviewers will inquire how I reacted to situation in question. This is point that I will sell the important skill s that I have, for instance, I will decide to describe how the team was helpful in making me to achieve a certain objective in addition of using my skills of communication in keeping every member up[dated of our progress. I will also know back in my mind to answer questions such as “Why I did it”. For instance, when I will provide answers with good ideas of what generally drove me to act in that manner. i will make a greater impact just by highlighting various reasons behind my actions. In the third step of results, I will eventually what really happened and how it ended, whether it ended in a bad way or good way but I will explain in detail. I will also use this opportunity to describe to the interviewers of what I learned as well as my accomplishments of the situation. This will assist me in making personal answers in addition of highlighting further skills. Knowing that this is the most important part of my answer, I will really take it serious having in mind those interviewers will be testing whether I have a variety of generic skills that helped me achieve my objectives. PORTFOLIO ITEM 5: Psychometric Testing Psychometric testing is a technique that may be used to measure my relevant strengths and weaknesses as a student. Its primary function is to assess my employment suitability that includes candidate fit of the company. Psychometric testing will be significant to me in a number of ways. I will appreciate the use of psychometric testing in a number of ways; for instance, I understand very well that I will be psychological and social when I will be doing a job that I enjoy most, a job that will make the most of my capabilities as well as my strengths. This kind of job will be an intrinsic motivator and a stimulator since it will not bore me or overstress me. This is from the fact that whoever loves his job will lead a happier and a more satisfying life. I once again appreciate psychometric testing since it has the capability of to make find the job that I most like and love. it also gives me the opportunity to avoid the jobs that might make my life miserable in future. Through psychometric testing, my personality and capabilities are analyzed in relation with that job that I may want, primarily to determine whether that job is my best fit or it will be a job that will give me difficulties and make my life more miserable. In addition, I will also gain a real insight concerning my weaknesses and strengths, motivators as well as the working styles that are preferred to assist me in making informed decisions about any of my careers and my work life. A Psychometric test has the capability of revealing what motivates me most in my work and how I will prefer to learn. This will make me decide on my incentive schemes to begin training and developing to ensure that I use the best of my motivations. Psychometric testing will not only measure my self-perception but it will also measure my real behaviors because may be what I will actually be saying is not what I do. Therefore, I will appreciate knowing my true behaviors to help me cope with my colleagues at the workplace. Reference Reardon, R. C. (2000). Career development and planning: a comprehensive approach.
