Human Resource as a Management Field Part one I have had a lengthy academic background, employment opportunities and other life experiences. After graduating from high school in Alaqssa High school, in 2006, I worked over a year in a call center department of HSBC Bank in Riyadh the capital city of Saudi Arabia. I later decided to advance my education in the human resources which was my preferred major subject. I needed to pass the IELTS exam to be capable of entering the foundation course, which would make me able to have the offer of HR course. I entered Cardiff metropolitan university in Cardiff where I had done my foundation, first year, second year and currently in the final year. I am planning to continue with my postgraduate degree in HR in Keele University as I look forward to working in Saudi embassy in London having got an offer from them last summer. I have had a short stint in employment amid learning breaks and this combine to form a good practical experience relationship with the theories in Human resource practices. I am headed to finish my Human resource studies by 14-6-2014 with greater dreams of becoming an outstanding manager. My stay in Riyadh as an operator in the call center opened my eyes on basic human resource management skills from how my manager uses to achieve his goals through us. From there, I decided to improve on his weak points and capitalize further on the learnt strengths from him. I, therefore, look forward to improving human resource policies when I complete my studies. In the dream of any committed individual to achieve excellence and I have not been an exceptional. After finishing High school, my engagement in the call center gave me an insight into the management practices that can foster prosperity in an organization. Dealing with employees particularly seemed to be unique to me considering the complex concept if coordinating functions and duties of each employee. I developed craving desire to pursue human resource program so that one day I could put the observed and text book theories into practice. A bank is very busy, and efficient service delivery requires sound management strategy which focuses on the customer satisfaction and overall business performance. In this regard, I realized that our performance in call center was a product of outstanding personnel management strategies under the Human resource management (Danielson, 2007, pg. 54). The other critical aspect of this management field is its practical application. It combines theory with practice hence exciting and dynamic. I believe that, at low levels of education, human resource skills would not be enough therefore my decision to climb higher. My career dream on Human Resource management has been based on SMART principle. Aggregate use of this and the timeframe factor convinced me to go through school and seek practical back up by working for some time (Foord & Haar,2008,pg.50). In the case of my employment, in Riyadh, I realized it is important to reconcile theory with practice as this strengthens decision making ability which is the backbone of dealing with personnel in any organization. In that respect, I plan to work Saudi embassy in London between session breaks so that my goals would begin to take shape. Part Two Human resource like any other program needs professional practice. This idea requires a student to be extending skills and knowledge within a given practical environment. In professional development planning, this concept improves the ability to transfer theory learnt in class to real life problem resolution. I learned that the Human recourse is a social science in nature as it requires interaction with individuals in consideration to their emotional status. It is, therefore, advisable that Human resource student undertake more practical experience in the field to prove and improve on the learnt theories (Wilson, 2011, pg.43-5). In this respect, I plan to take up internship programs in various organizations on part time basis so that I can improve my understanding of underlying human resource management approaches. Through professional practice, I have been able to gain hands on experience which helps in strengthening my view of this tricky profession. Within my professional plan, key factors include extensive and intensive involvement in human resource department issues in my assigned internship organization. My objectives have been to be the best human resource manager of my time and bring new flavor to this field through theory and practice. To assess my ability to achieve these objectives, it is imperative that I highlight my SWOT analysis. My strengths are important in boosting my chances of realizing the dream, and they include; god communication skill, ability to work under minimal supervision, team player, creative and innovative, ambitious, open to change and competitive in nature. These are critical aspects of making a successful manager since interpersonal skills require co-operation and sound communication ability. I, therefore, believe that these characteristics will propel me to the heights of my career. My weaknesses points at possible loopholes that may affect my entire plan. These include my inability to lead, lack of specific goals and focus, temperamental, poor time keeping and common behavior of interference. I think critical evaluation and understanding cause effect relationship of these weaknesses will help me in drawing the success plan. I have points of opportunities that will boost my chances of achieving the stipulated goals in human resource management. One of them is being a good communicator, team player and confident, I am able to co-ordinate activities and mobilize people to get things being done and this is a significant aspect of human resource practices. The overriding threats to my career include lacking tolerance, being exploitative and overreacting to situations which would significantly interfere with my interpersonal relations as a manager. Contemporary human resource practices require requisite understanding of the cultural aspect of employees’ body. There is a need to restructure policies based on benefits, tolerance and work load. These will form the basis of my efforts towards sound personnel management skills. Part three What Why Where How When Short term Attain the basic skills in interpersonal relations as far as human resource management are concerned This would help me develop positive attitude towards the different cultural background of people in any organization I would achieve this in part-time college Engaging a tutor to train me on communication skills 1 year-2 years Medium Undertake an intensive training on the emerging socio-economic and political issues that affect human resource management. This is important as the effect of globalization is fast eating into the modern business community and the society at large This is an intensive study project that can only be attained in a university and part time internship program in the human resource department of any company. Attending classes with three quarter of the day committed to wide and deeper reading and research in the library. 1year-3years Long term Undertake an investigative research on all the concepts affecting the human resource practices. This will be emphasized on a thesis statement that seeks to unveil the modern human resources practices and the business community. This is important to make decisions based on the emerging cases of socio-economic and political structure of the world. This would be done in a university at post graduate level with larger time proportion dedicated to data collection A collaborative research initiative with most companies and various human resource managers. 2years – 3years It is important to note that Human resource management is becoming increasingly important. Many organizations have made diverse policies on how to improve the productivity of its workers. In this respect, I take my case as important in serving as an example to future aspiring human resource professionals. The foundation to better human resource management practices was learning theory in class (Tsui & Lai, 2009, pg.64-5). This equips one with relevant knowledge that would be used to relate real life experiences. I believe that, by investing in my education to higher levels, I will be able to attain more knowledge and be in a position to deliver sensible facts in any intellectual discourse. It is important that I mix theory with continuous practical experience in the relevant department in any organization I can be offered a chance. As a way of improving my understanding of the human resource practices, it would be useful to undertake a collaborative approach in which I collect data from various people and analyze them towards a stipulated goal. My plans include learning other languages so that I can boost my chances of offering services in different institutions and even heading various organizations. Being a multilingual is not only important to me but equally serves to encourage cultural diversity in the organization and tolerance in management. Last but not least is to emphasize on my strengths, revisit my weaknesses, capitalize on opportunities as they come and finally evaluate the threats in my career.
